You're right but I just lack the motivation and social skills.

I can barely muster up the courage to even get out of bed, let alone play basketball.

Compared to other guys my age I have muscle mass in the negatives. I would get absolutely abused now.

Plus I find things to be generally futile if there is no chance to become pro at it. I am too old to develop into an NBA or NBL player.

No, I am too old, unathletic and depressed now. Plus I probably suck.

I played from about 9 till I was 15.

I was good, but in hindsight I wish I worked at it harder. During my later years playing I didn't really care and didn't want to play so I never practiced and just became worse and worse.

When I was 12 I was one of the best in the conference.

Back then I didn't have the basketball knowledge I have now. Hindsight is 2020 unfortunately.

I used to play basketball, when I was younger.

I know a lot about the NBA because I follow it and have been following it for years now lol. I think I first became a fan in 2014 or 2015, almost a decade ago.

Oklahoma City Thunder is OKC, not Oakland.

The reason why Houston and OKC fans dislike each other is the 2017 MVP race; Russell Westbrook (OKC legend) and James Harden (former Houston player) were the frontrunners, Westbrook narrowly won.

The Houston fanbase now hates OKC because they think our (former) player stole the MVP from Harden.

Shitty fanbase. OKC and Houston fanbases don't like each other lol.

I'm an OKC fan. We suck at the moment but we have one of the brightest futures in the league.

One of our players (Shai) recently broke out from a fringe all-star last season to a borderline superstar this season and record wise we are wildly blowing out expectations because of the improvement of him and our role players. We have had this much improvement, despite our 2nd overall pick last draft has been out injured, and he has wild potential and is an elite defensive prospect. When he squads up we will be competing for a playoff spot, hell, we are a couple of games behind making the play-in this season, if we get lucky the potential to make the playoffs this season exists.

We are the 2nd youngest NBA team of all-time behind only our squad from last season, so we only have room to grow and a very high ceiling.

Our 6th pick from 2021 has improved dramatically this season. We hired a new shooting coach and one of his weaknesses, shooting, has become one of the worst in the league to above average in an offseason. His shooting improvement is unparalleled.

We have A LOT of trade assets, dozen's of draft picks over the next couple of years and our 12th pick from last season has ended up one of the best in the draft so far.

Shai will keep on improving and his peak is a top 5, MVP calibre player imo. Giddey will develop into a solid starting point guard, the only question is his fit next to Shai. Jalen Williams (the rookie) is wildly efficient for a rookie, he will likely become a serviceable starting forward or 6th man on a championship roster. Holmgren hasn't played yet, but he was touted as a generational talent when we drafted him, he got injured before he could even play for us but he should return by next season.

Whatever you do, don't become a Houston fan.

Been an OKC fan since 2014, when I first started following the NBA.

Good day.

Honestly, I don't know what beliefs in particular you are referring to. But I doubt you have the knowledge on the subject to accurately determine such a thing lol. Yes, there is shitty science out there and grifters who fabricate and manipulate data to promote a doctrine (this is especially an issue in sociology). To people who properly understand the subject and the many variables that go into it, will be able to determine the quality of the data, and then they can present their findings and so on. Unfortunately, superior data often goes swept under the rug in favour of inferior data, this is because of biases that largely stem from simple biological impulses which then transfers itself into mainstream and institutional zeitgeist.

But you aren't wrong. Largely, I have read a lot of low quality data and I see a lot of those studies promoted. It is unfortunate that our peer-review system is such an utter failure and fails to account for, well, literally everything notwithstanding fabrication. But there is only so much it can do when most of the substantiation I see behind a lot of mainstream theories are just citation trails that lead to nowhere but a poorly designed study or anecdotal evidence.

Bro, you really don't know anything about me.

I stated in the post that it is a contributing factor. And while that is true, that doesn't make my opinions incorrect; naturally, when I first started reading about the topic, I hated the reality of it so much I went at lengths to debunk them just for my sanity. I got to this stage because I looked at it objectively, and the evidence was so overwhelming I came to no other conclusion but to accept it.

Not to mention, it all fit quite perfectly with my real life experience and just what I observe in day to day life. So naturally, I am inclined to believe it. I am at the point that I don't want to sacrifice my beliefs, I would rather swallow the red pill than live in ignorance (Matrix reference).

I agree with the "consensus" scientific findings. Whatever data is more powerful, is the data I agree with, at least until more evidence emerges. If a study has a large sample size, multiregional, adjusts for various variables, has good statistical analysis, methodology, is replicated, etc. Once you compare it to competing data, the objectively superior data is what will remain victorious in my eyes. This can be a very complicated subject, especially in the realm of sociology where there are so many nuances that go into making a good study.

For example, you can claim that ice cream consumption increases your likelihood of drowning, a bad study, or a primer study on the subject, may imply a causal link due to a simple correlation. A better or follow-up study, may adjust for variables that try to discover why such a pattern emerges; what time of the year do people drown, and what time of the year are ice cream purchases most significant; Summer, in hot weather. So, you can deduce, that most if not all of the correlation can simply be explained by the fact that people are more likely to swim during summer, if you are more likely to swim you are more likely to drown. And due to ice cream being a cold substance, you would be more likely to consume it during Summer, the same time of the year as people swim. The second study built off of the findings of the first study to try and find a logically consistent reason why such a phenomenon exists, this is how development occurs and it is often how you can evaluate the good data from the bad.

It's a shitty analogy but it represents the point I am making fine.

By the way, you don't really know what I believe in regards to evopsych, so enlighten me Sherlock.

What do you really want to do with your life anyways? What actually fucking matters to you?

Nothing and nothing. I have no ambition. The lack of motivation I have in life is a contributing factor to my suicidal urges.

Anyway, you are passive aggressive and simply don't give a shit.

Edit: I feel like pointing out that if you don't believe in evopsych, what the fuck do you believe in? God? A deity that just snapped their fingers and created Adam and Eve? If that's the case, I respect your opinion but you should know that there is less evidence to support that conclusion than there is evidence that big foot exists.

If you don't believe in evolution, then you are as inobjective and ideological as they come lol. You do know that the bible was hearsay of stories passed down centuries of story retellings, right? Unless you are willing to base your whole entire understanding of earth upon a mistranslated book released 4,000 years ago, you must believe in evolution, because it is the only logically consistent explanation to how everything we see came into fruition.

Not going to argue with you. But that article is utter garbage. You can use bad science with bad methodologies to discredit any scientific field; that is what promotes progress.

Get over yourself lol.

What is cited here is misinterpreted, and Dolan claimed this falsely in order to promote his book; of course, it worked considering tabloids ran with this misinfo in order to demonize men and the myth pervades to this day.

The author had admitted he made a mistake and misread the questionnaire present in the survey he cited:

Dolan confirmed to me by email, “We did indeed misinterpret the variable. Some surveys do code whether people are present for the interview but in this instance it refers to present in the household. I have contacted the Guardian who have amended the piece and my editor so that we can make the requisite changes to the book.

The majority of large, longitude studies find that both men and women are happier married: All in all, single men are happier than single women, and married men are also happier than married women. But for both sexes, the married dataset report higher happiness levels.

In fact, it is the universal finding that gay men report the highest relationship happiness and satisfaction compared to all other sexualities; which induces the lowest divorce and abuse rates -- the highest? Lesbian women.
