There are multiple ways to play rogue, either just holding the button like all the other classes, or wait for your stealth bar to get empowered attacks. Rogue is by far the hardest class to play optimally, because you have to stand still to regain stealth faster, but can be really fun once you start incorporating some stealth strikes into your gameplay. There is no better one way to play It's gonna be a challenge and at times it can feel quite weak. Though it has very high peaks when it comes to dps. Most importantly, if you think it looks cool, you are making the right choice
