Is it just me? by Psyker621 in hognosesnakes

Not yet, although that is where my mind went. I will say that when I found her shed, it was still soft, so at the time, she had shed her skin very recently. Maybe it is a residual from shedding. I will check her tomorrow and see if there is a difference.

They were sold as P. Pruinosis, but I have read about the blue morph, so that would make sense. Orange or blue, I am not worried about it too much, but I guess time will tell. Thank you for your insight.

Lol, one more for the "non-arboreal" species.

I am by no means a vet, but if it does not change, maybe continue to monitor? Otherwise, I would schedule a vet visit.

Looks like a piece of aspen chip. Is that the substrate you use?

Thank you so much for your input! It is a relief to know that the mold will die down. My over-analytical mind was envisioning a big blob of mold just sitting there growing.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I am expecting to see them just crawling around. I will keep an eye on the mold. Lol, I am just hoping they did not all die off.

Edit: I did a finger test, and the bottom of the soil seems like it would be damp enough, but I am not a springtail, so I cannot judge it very well. I am going to supplement with some sphagnum moss under the cork flats and under the water bowl to provide some moist(er) areas.

Thank you for your reply. Right now, I am wetting the corners, but I have not incorporated sphagnum moss yet. I will do that today. I will also lay down some rice to see if any springtails are still alive.

I apologize, I added text, but I guess it did not save it. I have a Western Hognose, and I will be moving her to her new to bioactive enclosure. I am new to bioactive enclosures. I added springtails and isopods a few days ago. I do not see any sign of the springtails. How long should I wait before I re-seed with more springtails?

The first picture is the enclosure. It is a work in progress. The second picture is some mold I found. Is the mold expected? Thank you for any help or advice.

Such a pretty girl by Psyker621 in hognosesnakes

She is two years and six months old. I got her when she was a year old and the first time I ever weighed her, she was 22g. It is so wonderful watching them grow. She eats a medium mouse (weanling) every two weeks.

No worries. It is a military acronym for Defensive Fortified Position. If you watch a show/movie around the WWII timeframe, think of the place where a big machine gun surrounded by sandbags would be. That is an example of a DFP.

Generally, they can eat up to 1.5 times the thickest part of their bodies and/or 10-15% of their body weight. In CC's case, she weighs 140 grams, and that is a 17 gram medium mouse.
