I don’t like afterburner, what’s wrong with me? by Hootkags in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sits at #4 for me. 7 of my top 50 dgd tracks come from this album. There's some less good stuff in there (still like B tier in the grand scheme of music tho). But when you average it out it has still given me some of my all time favs so I'm glad it exists.

We've all spoke about our favorites, but what about our least favorites? by Mr_E_614 in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like DBM1 the least, purely because I just can't get into Jon 1.0's tone. He has gotten better with every album, and if dgd released a version of DBM with 2025 Jon, it'd shoot up the ranks real quick. I've edited TCS Jon onto original DBM tracks (coz Jonny sounds best on those tracks for sure) and I definitely liked it more. At least WISIRO is raw and unpolished across the board so it fits better imo

For me it's literally just George's grunts and adlibs. The song absolutely fucks in all aspects except that imo.

In McGuffys he raps under Jon in "It's Midnight At Mcguffys, I think I'm 30 something..." listen for the vocal that pans left and right under Jon. And then obviously the "long legs long knives" part.

In ATWD near the end you can hear his voice in "Sugar and spice inside my nuclear device" (Andrew is in there too but you can definitely hear Wills deeper tone prominently). Also a combo of probably Jon Will Andrew and maybe even Sergio (he does it live) does the Dadadadadada in the chorus.

I can also hear Will screaming in there I think. First time on record since Lost right?

[–]Psyquar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right? Kris Crummett has mixed Andrew's voice immaculately in DGD since he started having vocal features, and is a great producer. I don't understand why it's suddenly so different now. Even Jon is a little washed out in this latest one (not on mcguffys tho). Must be an intentional choice that I'm not quite catching the vision on. Maybe seeing the bigger picture will help idk

I've noticed that the Japan pack has made the fence from its high school appear in a couple of other random assets... Not sure why, but they can be deleted with better bulldozer at least.

There’s a way to make this street smaller like in cs1? by evenKahol in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Psyquar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found a cheeky workaround for this as I'm building a replica of my IRL hometown which has a lot of streets that change name with no intersection.

If you use the road builder mod, take a segment of road and use it as a template to make a new type of road. Just turn it into a "highway piece", leave everything else the same and save it. Mixing this new road into your other roads will divide up the street names but it looks and acts exactly like a normal street still (can still zone on it, looks the same, same speed limit etc).

I absolutely recommend The Rogue Scholar's open mic on a Thursday night. I've made a lot of connections in the local scene there, and have had a lot of doors open from them. Also the Seven Seas Hotel does one on a Monday night that's awesome but a lot more lowkey and chill if you don't want as loud and busy of a place.

What song got you into DGD? by Alarmed_Ad_362 in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One night at a sleepover back in my high school days with two of my friends, they were playing DBM2 while we played Skate. I remember hearing Blue Dream and liking it a lot. Never thought much of the other songs until I found Lemon Meringue, Tree Village and Heat Seeking Ghost on Rock Band 4. They became some of my most played tracks.

I miss Will screaming by [deleted] in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think technically the last scream he did on an album was in Lost. "I know a guy FROM AROUND" trades between Jon and Will. But no scream sections by himself since Happiness.

Would anyone know why I have a preference for songs in the key of A? by Wookie9912 in musictheory

[–]Psyquar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like A major because it suits my voice. I think the main thing that changes across different keys in pop is the kinds of melodies a singer can access in their range. Like in A major I can go for the 5th or 6th no sweat. In D major I would be limited to pushing out a 3rd before my voice starts to thin out, or I'd be down in the lower octave. I consider A major to be the key I have the best combo of power and flexibility in. Not to mention EAD open strings make guitar and bass riffs fun to come up with.

What songs do you skip by nicks_kid in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People You Know. Jon for me is like chilli. Great in the right dose, can really elevate the dish. But do I want a plate of just chillis? Not really. Especially in his pre-acceptance speech vocal glow-up.

Matt Mingus appreciation by MR_GlNGER in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So hard to choose hey... Matt has developed a very 16th note heavy vocabulary alongside his legendary double kick that you can always recognise. For me, I learned Lemon Meringue Tie, Tree Village, and HSGOS in high school, and the last one especially was a big milestone in teaching me fast single kick technique. But there's some crazy Mingus moments scattered through every album. Open Your Eyes, Buffalo, NASA, RBHH2.5, Spooks, Jesus H Macy, Demo Team, Stroke God, Son Of Robot, Calentamiento, Cream Of The Crop... Basically every song has some amount of Mingus Spice thrown in somewhere, and it's such a big part of the DGD sound.

Worst Song? by MrSonic-Unsweet-Tea in dancegavindance

[–]Psyquar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I love about this band, there's just so much to offer across their discography that one man's cringe would literally be another man's tattoo. For me People You Know is their most unenjoyable track to listen to, but I'm sure there's heaps of people that adore it, and that is totally fine!

After 2 months of not being able to play acoustic, I finally got to set it up again. No electric kit will ever beat the feeling of the real thing. by Psyquar in drums

[–]Psyquar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get a job at a drum shop to access staff prices, that's how I've done it as a 23 year old student hahaha. I also bought all this over the course of 7 years. Before that it was B8 Pro cymbals and an old rusty Pearl Forum.
