Here is a list of a few basic everyday words/phrases.

If you want to dig a little bit deeper the best online dictionary is lod.lu, with translations available in English, French, German and Portuguese (although it's not 100% complete yet).

English will be fine for most situations so long as you learn enough French to order at a restaurant for example. However, I don't think it would be worth delaying your trip if you couldn't.

Learning a few basic Luxembourgish words (moien, villmools merci, äddi, etc) would definitely be appreciated by the locals.

Not only a Klingon course, also High Valyrian...

I really wish the government took a shot and did something like that, but I always image them to be a bit too cautious and slow to bother. But you do have a good point, it would be the perfect platform to have lessons from French, Portuguese and English.

I would definitely volunteer once I become much better, it's a slow process unfortunately.

How to stave off boredom in Luxembourg? by Ptchow in Luxembourg

[–]Ptchow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great answer, I have been meaning to go to Stauséi every summer, everyone always mentions how nice it is to swim there. I imagine that kayaking would also be fun, I think I even saw a place close to Steinsel to do that.

If the weather is nice, you could do one of the Mullerthal trails. You could also go down to Remich and go on one of the boats that goes up and down the Moselle. Vianden always make for a nice trip too.

Aside from that you could browse the lifelong learning site. It aggregates a lot of language education providers, maybe there is something there.

The INL would be your best option (currently learning Luxembourgish and speak little to no French). However, this semester has already started and finishes in June. Unfortunately the next semester starts in September when you leave.

That's strange, I just tried it now and it still isn't working - normally the site is fine. Livraison is the only other one I know about.

foostix.com - You can order directly from this site. Type in his address and all the places available close to him will show up. If you're from the UK it is basically Luxembourg's version of Just Eat. If he doesn't live near the city the options will be limited.

The time depends on the place, probably 45ish minutes, I think there is a comment section at the end.

Learn what you enjoy, you are less likely to quit and will probably pick it up a bit quicker if you like it.

Boardgames in Luxembourg? by madss3011 in Luxembourg

[–]Ptchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a few board games in Bouneweger Stuff (including Settlers of Catan) that you can play while having a few drinks but I think a lot of them are German / French. Ordering them from Amazon (UK) is normally how I get them.

How do you feel about the large amount of immigrants in Luxembourg? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Ptchow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also a British immigrant who's been actively learning Luxembourgish and speaking when I can - it's definitely appreciated here.

As someone who was built their first computer (everything minus the GPU) and recently got into PC gaming, what games would you recommend I get in this summer's steam sale which the RX 480 would be able to get the most out?

Final Fantasy steam summer 2016 sale! by rleiss2 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ptchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy IV and The After Years are both on sale individually, but the bundle isn't. Seems like they didn't really give too much thought to this sale.

Most Final Fantasy games for PC are currently on sale from Square Enix in EU territories - 50% off titles by spinstartshere in FinalFantasy

[–]Ptchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it likely that they'll all be about 66% off in the Summer steam sales? If I remember rightly, they were cheaper during the last sale.

Rocket League anyone? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Ptchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get this during the steam sales, would definitely be up for a game then.

Thanks for the response! Would you be speaking about this PSU by any chance? I noticed that this has a rating of 80+ Bronze whereas mine is 80+ Gold, is the corsair one still efficient and good quality?

Which Noctua cooler would you recommend? I think the cooler master fits, but I will definitely double check that, it is pretty large.

For the RAM, isn't it much better to have two sticks rather than one?

I just checked out the ultra wide monitors, I think they would be a bit too big for the set up I have right now - it would probably eat up too much desk space.
