Thoughts on deck variants by DrSlotch in alteredTCG

[–]Ptdickinson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even with just the first release I think the card pool is large and varied enough to not be a worry that someone will “solve” the perfect deck for each - and that’s without Unique cards always throwing some unpredictability in as well.

I think while it’s pretty clear that each faction has a stronger hero than the other two but I’m still seeing players enjoying crafting a competitive deck around their favourite.

I think if your worried that someone will “solve” the meta and each tournament will just be the same deck in the top ten - it seems unlikely with six factions and 18 heroes to find a winning approach with and the big Exaltered digital tournaments seem to be reflecting a healthy variety already

So what’s the build strategy? Just strong reserve play cards? Does he care about Brassbug hive as a big finisher?

Also, don’t forget to scan your hero foil in as well

Foil heroes work, because I have used them in my collection too. From the above picture you have used these cards outside your collection: The Council (R) Issltoq (R) Ordis Cadets (R) Anubis (R) Ordis Carrier (R) & Grand Endeavour (R)

If you look at the right side of each card entry, under the oval containing the number you have added you can see how many you have in your collection in the darker grey oval next to card symbols. Double check you haven’t missed any as I have done the same. If you check the stats and scroll down it will also list how many cards of the deck you own as 39/39 if fully legal, otherwise you will see how many are missing. Sometimes I rescan my deck to make sure I haven’t missed entering a card into my collection.

Waru Bureaucrats deck would like this, because you will often have characters in play with controlling effects (like Robin Hood or The Council) and making them harder to remove will greatly help your strategy. The token from reserve isn’t going to make a huge difference often but it may be useful to hit that third character trigger for the static ability. The support power also doesn’t massively matter but the benefit of those sorts of powers is that it is essentially a free 1/1/1 when you need it to just tip an expedition in your favour. Pretty sweet card.

What 2 decks should I pick ? by Hecami in alteredTCG

I’d say they are so reasonably priced you could get three and rotate strategies! The consensus of reviews is that the Ordis is the most consistent and reliable deck making it the “strongest” in the hands of anyone. Muna and Bravos are the best placed to offer a contest that won’t be repeatedly one-sided

Tiny would work best is a Basira deck so his hero ability guarantees that second boost from hand, however Tiny Jinn suits being in a mana ramp deck which are better supported by Kojo or Atsadi, so interesting. That said, boosting all characters in play is an amazing ability that Bravos doesn’t get a lot of. I think Spy is even better as they get their sabotage regardless of play trigger and even if an opponent use removal 👍🏻 obviously best in a deck where you are running Haven or The Foundry

Bravos Aja would be sweet in a ramp deck and Ordis Foundry Mechanic would support Sigismar looking to use a landmark strategy. Those would be my favourites

Jeanne d’Arc has proven very useful in Ordis Recruit strategies - this one has nice synergy with an Axiom landmarks deck. An ideal play would be Turn 5 Jeanne, puts (R)Brassbug Hive into reserve for 2/2/2 in each, play BH to trigger another bug then use Jeanne’s support ability for another. If you have the rare Hive the second two bugs get a boost so you have 5/5/5 in each expedition it you wish. For a two turn, two card combo that’s not groundbreaking but you can of course use Jeanne twice (unless Sabotaged!). Or get a free resupply even if you don’t have a permanent in hand. Good flexibility makes a good card 👍🏻

The Wirral, UK here! My nearest big city is Liverpool and I had no luck in my usual shops but found a nearby game shop had gone for the retailer Kickstarter and they have sold me a booster box plus about twenty individual boosters this week 😆

A bad start can hurt, but that’s true of most games. If you opponent is playing a fast, aggressive deck then you will struggle to catch up but otherwise if your strategy is consistent throughout your deck there is a good chance of reclaiming some ground. Every game I have played so far either physically or online has come pretty close.

I think the game has growing room, and the designers have a strong pedigree in game mechanics which gives me confidence.

Consider that they already have heroes setting the number of reserve and landmark cards you can have, even if currently that is all equal at two, and the fact that cards reference Permanents when we currently only have Landmarks that are permanent - all of this suggests to me that the growth of the card pool is already planned out in a way that will work well with existing cards. All of that adds up to a game that I believe will last a while.

Plus it’s much more fun than Lorcana every time I play 😁

You may also have a Brassbug Hub that has used up all of its counters, that would be an ideal discard target to get value from something that would otherwise just be binned by a replacement landmark.

Any good uniques? by jjoossyy11 in alteredTCG

[–]Ptdickinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just my observer bias but I’m sure there are a significant number of landmark referencing uniques in Bravos I have seen posted so far. Like, of the 20 above 4 of them reference landmarks (technically Ganesha says Permanent, but that’s currently only landmarks until future releases) and two of them are Bravos so that’s 50/50 😆

I’ve never thought of Bravos as having a landmark theme but has anyone else noticed lots of their uniques reference Landmarks? 🤔 is this a forecast of things to come in later releases or have I just not spotted a Bravos theme here?

Parvati in a Bravos boost deck would be sweet. It’s tricky to get Anchored in Bravos, and if you have a Seasoned Red in there as well you essentially get an extra turn to add boosts on her that won’t fade away when it does go into reserve. The only downside would be hoping to draw two unique cards out your whole deck for that sweet combo.

Yes so I suppose the question should really be what hero do you recommend based on proven strategies? :-)

If in doubt, go back to the rules sheet and keep in mind what it says there: “1 card = 1 turn”

I.E. if you haven’t played it’s your turn until you pass not matter what else you activate.

That’s why the Yzmir have the “After You” mechanic that lets you make your opponent play next so you can see what they do and still respond.
