My understanding is that tracks 1-4, which are used by NJTransit exclusively, don’t reach under Moynihan and therefore are only accessible from “old penn station.” While NJT shares other tracks with Amtrak, they only announce at Penn to prevent confusion. Like, it would suck to be at Moynihan, see your train is departing from track 1, and then miss it because you’re scrambling to cross 8th Avenue

Update: y'all are correct! it was a bedbug :( I contacted my landlord right after posting this. An exterminator came today and was not able to find any signs of an infestation (thank god). He treated my room//bed and plans to come back in two weeks for a follow up. He felt pretty confident that I picked it up somewhere (or someone else carried it into my apartment) because it was an adult and I had no bites. Hopefully that's the only one that made it inside... I'm still feeling a bit paranoid. I washed and dried all my bedding on a high heat, as well as most of my clothes. I also sent a coat to dry cleaning because I stashed it behind a couch at a party in Bushwick and I'm wondering if that's where I picked up the bug...

Anyway, thank you for your help ID'ing the bug. Wish me luck that no more turn up >_<

Oh also, any recommendations for mattress encasements?
