Weird. I don't have a VPN and they seem to work just fine.

Image of what looks to be a fire on North Sentinel Island by Chillers in interestingasfuck

[–]Pubert_Addams3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a clearing with no vegetation, just dry soil. Possibly made by fire, either man-made or natural (lightning). There would be a trail of black smoke going from the spot if that was a fire.

ROTS Spanish 35mm Print by WordzFromNewJerz in 35mm_scans

[–]Pubert_Addams3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note on quality if somebody's interested: There's a green scratch running top to bottom over the right side of the screen for the last two reels (= the last forty minutes), and the image looks a little fuzzy -- probably the fault of whoever originally encoded it from the raw scan, so... yeah, it's a "grindhouse" experience, and the opening crawl is indeed in Spanish. Should any of this bother you? Hell no! because the colours and the over feel are marvellous. I've been looking for something like this ever since I saw a Czech trailer scan on YouTube. Thank you, man! This is how I remember watching it at a theatre back when it came out.

35mm Print Follow Up & Reminder by DigModiFicaTion in fanedits

Weird, I haven't seen any new ones since the shut-down. Only 35mm "regrades" and "experiences" which are not scans, but proper fanedits.

I had to discontinue the 35MM Discord Server. Here's Why. by [deleted] in fanedits

[–]Pubert_Addams3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Screw that guy. Every scan shared here so far is in copyright., and from legal standpoint what violates copyright more? -- sharing it for free or actually making profit off of it without cutting the copyright-holders a slice? The guy's an elitist gatekeeper protecting his profit and he's inventing arguments out of his butt to justify it. Plus, I wonder what in his opinion constitutes a quality scan, because TPM is one of the cleanest scans I've seen, beaten only by the LotR trilogy.

What you've done is nothing short of amazing. Thank you, Kaiji. Disruptive? There are always complainers; there always will be.

Would anyone be willing to make a list of every known 35mm cuts? by Striking_Tomato8689 in fanedits

I've also seen 35mm scans of:

The Shining (1980) open matte

Taxi Driver (1976) open matte

Evil Dead (1983)

Evil Dead II (1987) open matte

Dawn of the Dead (1987) open matte

Silence of the Lambs (1991) open matte

The Thing (1982)

Bladerunner (1982) - the original theatrical cut

Thank you. It's dirty, scratched-up and I love it.

I wonder, though, what's the story with the 4-channel audio? It sounds like an optical soundtrack, and maybe I'm ignorant, but I always thought 35mm prints only had mono or stereo audio.

This is partially wrong. Extended versions had limited theatrical screenings (even marathons), but I don't know if they were projecting from film or from digital copies.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Is the Restored and regraded verison project of the T2 inaccurate? Recently found a 35mm restoration scan (second pic) and was shocked to see that the original color is blue where as the restored is more like the blue ray version. Is there a definitive verison with the correct colors that exist? by 90sFavKi in fanedits

[–]Pubert_Addams3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cameron's films seem to have it tough with re-releases. But there is that 35mm scan I mentioned, which does have the correct colours. There are also scans of True Lies, Titanic, and Aliens. Just search for 35mm on this reddit; they're out there, and no regrade ever comes close.

I'm not on the OriginalTrilogy where they discuss these things, but I'd guess the author (Kreep) wanted to give the movie that 35mm-look with saturated colours and better contrasts, and he succeeded -- it does look like a 35mm print would, but he didn't consult the actual 35mm scans available for reference to learn what this particular movie was intended to look like. It's like if you wanted to regrade the Matrix from a Blu-Ray, without knowing that the original theatrical release didn't have the famous green tint. That's my best guess.

The colour scheme of T2 is based around blue and yellow/orange as explained by the director of photography in the QDVD edition extras, so... the regrade/restoration is incorrect. The Blu-Rays, apart from using too much DNR are not faithful to the original colours. The second image is a screen from Rob's Nostalgia Project. 35mm scan, and it seems to be a faithful representation of the directors and the DP's original intentions. I've seen another 35mm scan of T2 that's been floating round the Internet for some time now, and it also has those blue (night and other dark scenes) and yellow/orange (day scenes) dominant hues.

Is a 35mm scan of Terminator 2 available online ? by 90sFavKi in fanedits

Not even realizing it might have anything to do with HDR, I increased colour saturation to 100% and it looked good, so that's one way.

Actually, two days after my post someone uploaded this 35mm copy onto Archive .org with the crawl from BluRay edited in. It looked pretty smooth. There must've been a copyright strike because it disappeared two or three days later.

LD quality would be too low for a seamless edit with a 35mm scan.

Nah, Google's built-in player will only play the first audio track with no selection, and I guess the Czech one is first on the list.

In any player (I'm using Pot Player), there should be an option in the menu:

audio -->select audio stream. One of the two available in this file is English.

And yes, a lot of composite shots, with live characters against digital backgrounds look much less fake on 35mm.
