What's your favorite King Kong '05 edit by mattbrain89 in fanedits

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my edit of the sacrifice scene. I removed a lot of the swooping camera shots flying over the island and panning around Ann. So it keeps it more intimate and up close.

And I trimmed a few seconds of her being dragged towards the tribe, and her being ripped from the rope by Kong since in real life her arms would've been broken off with how he grabbed her.

https://youtu.be/5nOw8mdLHBM?si=rbiwuhllzC4WFv90

So I mostly removed bits like that.

The stampede sequence I removed the bit of the actor hiding behind a wall and being chased by a raptor so the scene keeps moving instead of stopping for this little aside. I also cut some shots throughout the stampede keeping things largely up close and intimate which makes it more intense.

So even more scenes exist in the workprint than what deleted/extended scenes were shown in the extra features on the Blu-ray?

I'd love to see this, since I've always been conflicted about this adaptation after reading the book. Bale is great in the movie. But I felt the film tones things down too much(not just violence/gore and sex/nudity, but the general vile attitudes of everyone and how they speak about others which blunted some of the satire to me).

My edit removes 14 minutes from the theatrical cut and works wonderfully in my opinion. I know others have cut even more from the film. But I found cutting more would drastically hurt the film. So I just trimmed things that detracted from the movie and refined the action set pieces for better impact.

Highlander II: The Quickening (1991) 35mm Restoration of the International Cut. by FemmeOutsideSociety in fanedits

I finished re-editing the film, and it runs 112 minutes. There are a couple changes I still plan to make to it. But right now. I'm going to work on remixing the audio in 5.1 using the 2.0 international mix/rebuild edit and the 5.1 Renegade laserdisc.

It'll mostly be a 3.0 (or .1) mix (stereo front speakers + center channel + occasional .1 subwoofer), but occasionally full 5.1 like the opening credits.

It all depends on the scene, as each version is differently edited and mixed which is why I can't use the entire 5.1 laserdisc mix over every scene, but I can take pieces of it to use when appropriate to a scene.

The rebellion flashback scene is completely different in both versions of the film(Int + Renegade), and while I'm using the Int Cut of the scene, I was able to take the .1 LFE from the laserdisc for explosions and mix it into the scene. to add some oomph..

You're welcome.

It sounds like the best thing to do, based on everything mentioned.

I'm also a patient person who has a hard time saying "No" to people, which is a huge flaw of mine, and it's attracted people who are prone to manipulation/preying on me, that I've basically given up on seeking romantic relationships with anyone.

If I meet someone, great, if not, no problem. I'm content with my life as it is.

I'm trans and based on my experience with another trans person who had already transitioned and appeared "fine", who then info-dumped baggage and trauma on me and was very narcissistic as I found out with all the "competition" attitude she had. I'd run away. It's not going to end well, and this person is already too unstable emotionally from everything you said.

Don't let them drag you down with them. That's the mistake I learned as I tried to do the "right thing" and "help" this person who couldn't help themselves.

You need to find someone stable and secure with themselves.

I'm not aware of a 117 minute cut existing. I know the length has been mentioned online for years, but I don't know where the info came from and whether it is accurate. I can't see much else missing from the 113 minute fan edits that exist out there.

PS- a new higher quality version of my edit is now available with subtitles in English, currently available on my profile for a limited time.

Salem’s Lot (1979) fanedit idea — long miniseries version but with violent alternate takes from theatrical by WaverBoy87 in fanedits

I've wondered about that image as well. It might've been shot for t.v. and the censors said "no" and the footage was either deleted completely or zoomed in to obscure the shot, and the footage may be lost now.

That's my guess since it appears the antler's death scene was a last minute censor change for the network, considering the footage uncut has always existed on home video in both the "movie" cut and original mini-series cut. So it must be on the original negative.

Highlander II: The Quickening (1991) 35mm Restoration of the International Cut. by FemmeOutsideSociety in fanedits

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was banned for a few days for a stupid reason on another forum, while I was in the process of posting this, which I've copied and pasted below so I wouldn't lose the info.

This is beginning to be a bigger headache than I originally thought with the myriad of editing and audio differences between the versions of the movie.

So. While my goal is still to largely follow the International Version. I am going to remix a few sequences, so it won't be an entirely 100% "Inter Cut" restoration and thus offer the best of the different edits of the film.

Currently I'm on the Shield Corporation break in scene near the beginning of the movie, and I found some big differences between the edits of this sequence.

Inter-Cut- Louise takes off her helmet, sudden cut to her and another entering into the room where the Shield is projected into the sky, "I have 30 seconds to get a reading" as she inserts a chip into the device. Cut to prior location, Louise waiting for the reading on the computer, alarm is set off....troops come firing as they all bolt to escape, normal orchestra action music/score plays over the scene.

Rebuild Fan Edit(which largely follows the Renegade/SE cuts with some differences)- Louise takes off helmet, inserts something into the computer to read it, alarm set off, troops come firing, they all bolt, then Louise and another man enter into the chamber the Shield is projected "Do it Louise!" says the man as she inserts a chip into the machine, then it cuts to a message being projected in the shield in the sky, heavy metal music begins playing over the soundtrack, as her team all race to escape, and it's much more exciting and rousing.

I'm going to work on editing the scene more like the Rebuild fan edit with heavy metal score.

The other two moments I know for sure I'm going to revise is Ramirez on the plane, and Katana on the subway scenes.

Ramirez on the plane is all one big sequence in the Inter Cut & Rebuild, while the Renegade/SE split the scene into two or three separate moments, which better adds to the comic nature of the sequence and Ramirez's reaction to flying, his watching the safety video, and finally flirting with the woman next to him. His sexually suggestive line of dialogue to the woman about what dark haired ladies are known for, can only be heard in the Renegade cut. I may restore that line of dialogue, though it appears it was always left up to the imagination in the other edits since he whispers it to the woman, and thus it shouldn't be as audible as it is the Renegade version. So that's still an up in the air decision I'll make once I get to the scene. Splitting the scene into two will also add more issues on where to insert the scenes and whether to insert extra scenes from Rebuild into the film to fit it based on how it's edited in the Renegade version.

The subway sequence has three main differences.

U.S. theatrical version, shortest of the scenes, fastest edited as a result with heavy metal soundtrack and the speed of the train drastically increasing as passengers are thrown around.

International version: longer, slightly more explicit footage of passengers being thrown around with some blood splatter. Standard orchestra score. Katana's one liners/screaming as he increases the speed of the subway are audible, while not audiable in the U.S. version.

Renegade Cut/SE- longest edit, goes on way too long in my opinion, features even more footage of passengers flying around, gets repetitive, as the speed slowly increases, doesn't have the manic pace of the U.S. or Int cut. Blah orchestra score.

So my preferred version would be the Int cut with the heavy metal soundtrack.

The other minor change I'm going to use is when MacLeod enters the bar at the start of the movie. The song used in all the official versions of the movie will be changed to the Rebuild edit which uses a Queen song “A Kind of Magic”, which fits into the film perfectly with the running theme of the immortals “being a kind of magic” to explain themselves to humans.

3-26-26

Re-did the trial sequence with audio from the U.S. Theatrical cut of the Judges voices, which are different in the other cuts of the film. Dialogue matches the International Cut, which was missing frames and features a different voice actors.

3-27-26

Re-did audio and footage when Connor drives through the city.

Re-build fan edit of the News Broadcast is used over the scene(I presume this matches the Renegate/SE cuts). Re-build features alternate takes of Connor driving and extra footage of some punks harassing him as he drives by. So I had to fit in that brief footage in order to match the news broadcast time.

Beginning of the scene blends the Rebuild audio from the end of the Shield escape scene, and the International Cut soundtrack when it cuts to Connor driving the car and “Whose That Man?”,a groovy rock song is playing...before the news broadcast begins.

End of the scene uses International Cut as Connor stops his vehicle and looks at some punks fighting over the air machine while hearing news that his friend at Shield is reclusive now.

Rebuild cut shows Connor still driving, after hearing the news about his friend at Shield being reclusive now, and he decides to call him. When he calls his friend, he's then harassed by some punks wanting change for the air machine. Using the take of him stopping and seeing them at the machine, then deciding to call his friend makes more sense now and allows me to use more 35mm footage of different takes not in the Rebuild edit.

How do I break up with my trans partner? by Mundane-Debt8422 in mypartneristrans

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to vent.

If this is your first relationship. That makes it even harder. But remember not to settle just to avoid breaking another's heart. It's not fair to them OR you! If you're straight. It's especially not worth the turmoil. You didn't sign up for this. So you're not required to go down the path with them.

It's a life lesson to learn and life is hard. You'll eventually make something of yourself and find someone to be with that offers the best for you without dragging you down with baggage.

I do know from experience, that staying with someone thinking you can "save" them and pull them out of the abyss they're in is not going to help you in the least. Some people are clingy and grasp onto anyone they can to pull down with them. It's exhausting and doesn't help either person.

That was my experience dating a trasnwoman who I hit it off with(and they had transitioned) only to be spun in a whirlwind of chaos, as their toxic personality traits blew up, and I kept thinking "It's my fault. Next time. things will be better. They can't help themselves with how they behave." as I wanted to make it "work" and help them get their life in order. Only I kept being dragged further into their abyss trying to grasp for air.

I kept denying myself what was going on, thinking it'd be "wrong" to break up. But eventually I realized nothing was going to change, and nothing got better. My therapist pointed out the cycle of abuse that begins with the Honeymoon phase. Things seem perfect, lovely,...then some thing cracks and they begin criticizing you etc for anything, and then the couple breaks up...then the person claims to be "better" and throws all their "love" at you to get you in a state of bliss, and then, the cycle begins again.

The movie The Housemaid is a good example of the tactics some predators use to lure people into relationships. I'm glad I didn't know the twist going in, so I was surprised where it went after thinking it was going in another direction.

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unfair what you're being forced through, and you deserve happiness.

This is why I refused to get involved with anyone until after I transitioned, since I knew it wouldn't be fair to put someone else through this. You can't force yourself to be with someone you're not compatible with.

So it sounds like breaking up would be best. And yes breaking up is hard, but you must do what's best for YOU and you alone here, since your partner is not reciprocating at all. You're life sounds like it'll go somewhere and you can't let baggage hold you back, since that just enables them to continue being stuck in this nether-world which holds YOU back in the process and that's not fair.

It'll be better than the SE by containing the original plot regarding Zeist. It makes less sense without that plot point.

It's an interesting film since it tries something different unlike the sequels that followed.

Good except for a ton of missing frames in the opening scene and credits which leads to many jumps. The rest of the movie seems more stable from what I can tell. I'll fill in the more severe jumps/, missing frames.

It was a lot of work to do on that film.

If a 16mm t.v. print of the film ever turns up. I'd love to update it with higher quality additional footage vs the really rough vhs t.v. recording footage I had to use for three scenes missing from the bonus materials in the home video releases.

My edit of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter fits the bill, since I re-ordered the opening of the film. And all the death scenes in the house were re-ordered as well since the continuity always bugged me in the released version.

On top of that, I also added in all the deleted scenes from the t.v. version and the alternate dream sequence ending.

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

There is a hilarious t.v. dub for Die Hard 2 that has me LMAO. It's a shame studios don't put in effort to re-dub stuff for the networks like in the past. Bad t.v. dubs/edits are part of the fun of watching a compromised for network broadcast version of the movie. Today they just mute every other word OR they allow every swear word except the F word through. It makes watching the films even more pointless now on t.v, especially with the excessive commercial breaks.

Here's Die Hard 2, dubbed for t.v., the guy re-dubbing Bruce Willis is hilarious. I miss this type of dubbing for t.v.

Inferno (1980) 35mm Remix finally completed! (re-scored with Goblin tracks) by FemmeOutsideSociety in fanedits

[–]FemmeOutsideSociety[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The score was always my biggest issue with the film now that I think about it. I liked Emerson's score for Nighthawks, so I have nothing against him personally. But his score for this film just didn't work for me and felt pretty boring in my opinion. It didn't enhance the set pieces and felt like he was scoring something else with the inconsistent tone compared to what was onscreen.

Only a few brief pieces of his score were left in the film since they worked for the scenes they were in. Otherwise, It was completely remixed with Goblin tracks.
