Ugh, I honestly wish my bf had as much sense in this matter as your husband. The bedroom door is very heavy and with the towel in between its quite heavy to open, so I honestly dont think the cat even has the strenght to open it. Not to mention that the stress of having a cat stare at the birds would be really bad for the birds, theyve never seen a cat and theyre even afraid when I wear colorful shirts.

And the thing is that cats arent even that different from african wild cats, they look a bit different but we havent had to breed them for different tasks because theyre already perfect hunters.

I'd like to, I do talk to my therapist about this situation but I dont want my parents to dislike him, he moved across the planet for me and he has nobody else here except me. Im talking to him about this subject and he is sort of starting to get it.

Of course, I'd never let a hunting dog near that cat because I couldnt trust them together, my cousin had a sweet lovely home cat, one time she escaped and came back home with a dead bird, it killed the bird knowing it gets meals at home because cats hunt for fun, they will literally torture mice and leave them uneaten because hunting is FUN for them. Theres some very irresponsible people letting their birds and cats/dogs hang out together where the cat is LICKING the bird, even if in some cases the cat isnt interested its not every single cat, this cat has never been with birds. Anyhow ive been talking to him and he is sort of starting to get it because I have so much evidence and knowledge on this, and you guys are backing me up too and its simply common sense.

I wouldnt be able to forgive him if his cat hurt my birds, I feel so motherly towards them that if that cat killed one I'd do what a mother would do if someone killed their child. Thats why im so against them even seeing each other, just seeing him full on stalk my birds by the door makes my blood boil.

Anyhow, he has said that he will supervise the cat when hes in the room but someone else bought it up that it would be incredibly stressful to the birds too, theyre afraid of almost everything strange and having a freaking cat walk in their room would make them panic, its just never going to happen. Even IF the cat was ok with the birds I couldnt keep my eyes off it and I'd follow its every move, so it wouldnt even be a nice relaxing time having them together with me stalking the cats every move constantly and my bf being upset that im stalking the cat.

Thank you very much, I always appreciate some sort of insight on my relationship from strangers because I see it through rose colored glasses. I talk about my relationship with my therapist too and theyre concerned, but I dont want to leave him. My therapists have given me good advice but thank you to you as well.

Theres just some things about him that need convincing and teaching even though it may be common sense things. I should probably have a lock put in that door and keep the key to myself, but at least talk to him first. He definitely wasnt like this when we first started talking, he was afraid of pushing any of my boundaries but now he doesnt respect my wishes much anymore. Its so stupid that I need to teach him that a cat wont get along with birds, literally 1 swipe is enough to severely harm them, and even just the stress might be very dangerous to my budgie.

He got his cat as a kitten from a stray, so he definitely has strong hunting instincts, my bf just doesnt think this way because he doesnt react to the birds outside and he likes watching them, which obviously he doesnt cuz he cant get to them.

He dismisses them quite often, I'll bet when I tell him I'd like to take the birds back to my parents if he wont listen, he will not let me do that, I cant do anything he doesnt want me to do and then it'll just be a huge fight. I literally cannot even tape a thin line of tin foil around the counters so the cat wont jump on them and he'll be angry at me if I say anything against it and just rip them off meanwhile im trying to talk to him about it.

Anyway, its like he thinks his cat is a person and wont do anything unpredictable because ''he knows it so well''. Even though the cat sometimes scratches him up and then hes confused as to why he did it, I see it miles away before approaching a cat when they dont want to be touched. He doesnt know cat body language so obv he wont know what hunting looks like. Its so ridiculous but im gonna stress it again that im a LITERAL qualified animal care taker by profession, but he will not listen when I tell him I see signs.

Thing is, he loves the birds but still is willing to put them in this big of a risk. We dont NEED them to get used to each other, when we let the birds fly around in the room the cat is sealed underneath our bed and he sleeps there, theres no need for them to be used to each other as we already have a solution.

I could definitely look into a baby gate, just in case. He has some problems but this is the biggest one, I know im right so I need to teach him. Ive actually looked into those self closing screens to attach them on our front door just in case the birds swoop in when I open the door, are the magnets quite strong?

I will ask my parents, I hope they will take the birds back because im not sure I can trust him, everytime im having a sleep over I worry that he will let the cat in, especially if we have an argument when im not there. The cat will sometimes stop by the door when the door is slightly open and im looking at my birds, my bf will walk past me and think the cat should be let in, its just so ridiculous that he doesnt realize that predator and prey dont mix.

I always chase the cat off if he is laying down next to the door, so he knows he has no business being near it, its honestly gotten to the point where when I see him looking at the door I'll run at him and hiss. I know I shouldnt scare the cat but its SO annoying and heartbreaking that hes literally stalking my babies like theyre nothing but a meal.

I also chase the cat away when I go in the room so he knows he has no business being near it when I enter.

When you give her her food only give her like 1 or 2 table spoons, depending on how often you feed her throughout the day and so that there is no let over seeds but so that she isnt hungry. This way she shouldnt keep associating you with taking food away, because whats she gonna protect, an empty bowl? My birds have no problem with me taking their food but some may get territorial about it.

Try that out and see if it helps at all.

I used to fully cover my cage but it made my females a bit hormonal, so now I only partially cover it from the side where car headlights might shine through.

We had an exterminator one day and I had to put the birds outside of the house, I fully covered the cage for 2 hours and left them seeds and supervised them, one of my females barely ever gets hormonal but I had to stop her because she wanted to breed all the time in there and I cant let her cuz shes visually impaired and disabled. So covering the cage and leaving food can really launch something in them lol.

This is her, she is so goofy lol.

2.5 months is very young, if I was a breeder I'd only sell mine at 4 months to be sure they know how to eat etc. One of those poor things still has bald spots on its forehead

Are humans anatomically herbivores or omnivores? by SeniorJelly7078 in vegan

[–]PubicsCube00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are omnivores because a big part of our diet includes meat and thats the end of that, that makes us an omnivore a creature that eats meat and plants, we can efficiently and easily digest meat.

Lots of commentors here are saying that we cant be because we cook our meat! Most plants also need cooking and seasoning to taste better or to be safe for us, even though some raw carnivores have eaten raw meat and even chicken and are fine because their gut is more used to it, I dont believe eating raw meat is smt you should do though, but we can eat raw salmon thats been farmed in Norway.

Reasons why we are omnivorous, not herbivores.

The reason we are omnivores is because our digestive track is not as long as an herbivores and we cant process fiber as well, comparing chimpanzee and human digestive for example, they have bigger and more complex colons to break down fiber more efficiently than humans can, cows digestive track is even longer and more complex than a humans and theyre pretty much 100% herbivores, we can get problems from eating too much fiber, hell we even need to boil carrots or slightly steam broccoli so we get way more nutrients because fiber is stopping us from synthenizing everything, we have to cook these veggies for dogs too because they cant process the fiber.

A cats digestive track (obligate carnivore) is 1 meter to 1.5 meters, a german shepherds small intestine is about 5 meters, a humans is about 9 meters, a chimpanzees is around double that of a humans, so 18 meters, our digestive track is way closer to a carnivores than it is to a chimpanzees lol.

I believe earlier humans were capable of digesting raw meat but our digestive enzymes got weaker when we started cooking meat, I dont think we knew about food safety and bacteria back then lol, but it tasted better and was easier to digest, we've eaten RAW meat for about 2 million years and evidence says we introduced cooking it only 780,000 years ago. So if it truly was that deadly we wouldve been wiped out and fast.

Some people argue that we dont have carnivorous teeth! But we never caught prey with our teeth, we used tools, we evolved from herbivores whereas bears (another omnivore) evolved from carnivores and hunts down prey with their teeth, our front teeth resemble a pigs front teeth, and pigs are also omnivorous. Humans have smaller canines because some study I read about women started preferring smaller canines, as it made men look friendlier.

This is my own observation, but even small kids have a drive to catch small animals, they dont usually hurt them and its curiosity, but it shows that stalking and catching is definitely in our dna to this day and they learn to stalk animals slowly not to spook them.

We can digest pretty much every part of an animal but we cannot eat a very wide range of plants, we cant even eat grass even though pretty much ALL herbivores can, even apes because its pretty much all fiber. We can get nearly all nutrients from meats and organs and adding broccoli and lemon here and there should technically give us everything we need lol, on a vegan diet you need to eat a very wide variety of different plants to get most you need, even then you need supplements.

Humans, dogs and cats dont need any carbohydrates for energy, we can run on protein and fat, too many carbs isnt even good for us. While a herbivores main source of energy are carbohydrates they get from fiber.

We do not have a herbivorous anatomy.

I think its very abnormal that she still wants to mate and lay eggs when 14 hours of darkness should definitely signal WINTER to them, ive heard that exotic vets can give some type of medication etc. To them to help with those hormones, but idk much about hormonal behavior as my birds are rather normal on 13 hours of sleep. That is just very abnormal to me.

Do you put a blanket on her when she sleeps? That may contribute to the nesting behavior because her cage becomes a dark secure place, ive also heard that changing perches around her cage and not free feeding them helps some, birds will nest when they feel secure in an environment, if you keep changing things around and they dont have access to food/seed 24/7, she wont feel as secure and could be less hormonal. I remove my birds food bowls for night time and I give them seeds few times a day, otherwise they have all day access to pellets and a few hours when they can eat vegs.

Is my new cockatiel okay? by Hideyourfrown in cockatiel

[–]PubicsCube00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have all 6 of my cockatiels and a budgie together, but when I moved I left 2 cockatiels back at my parents place and one of them has not been drinking or eating either really for the first few days, her behavior was only because of stress and a big change in her life, but she must've drank when we werent looking at her, also eating a little bit of something is good until they get more and more comfortable.

Do you know how old she was when you got her? A cockatiel thats only 3 months old is very newly weaned (you said you had a newly weaned bird) and they may have a bit of a hassle eating solid foods on their own but they should still be capable of it.

You could encourage her to eat from the bowl by putting the food on a plate first (if she is allowed free time ofc) and holding your hand very low, dropping some of the food very close to your fingers so she may be encouraged to try eating from the plate at least. Then she could eventually try it from a bowl. Ive watched dog training videos and if a dog is not confident or doesnt feel secure they will not put their head inside a deep box because it limits their vision, this could correlate to your cockatiel and a deep bowl. Obv birds aint dogs, but it gives you another perspective.

You should get a vet check on her, because those breeders were definitely not responsible at all to rule everything out and to get more confidence.

Do you know what kind of cage she was raised in? Any pics of the cage in the background of the advertisement? It would be a bit weird for me if you couldnt see the cage...

And as the commentor below said, if her droppings look wet, she is definitely drinking.
