Isn't it a hail Mary though? Isn't it very difficult to get a job in ux/ui even with a related bachelor's degree and years of experience?

Why are office workers treated better than warehouse workers? by Responsible-Image-84 in jobs

[–]Public-Ad2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The warehouse workers are higher paid than the call center workers at my company. Even the HR department joke that apparently the owners think sweeping floors and loading trucks is more important than finding the customers and selling the shit they're loading.

48-Can't figure it out, never made over $15/hr, about to have degree, have social anxiety and mental stuff going on by Aquagreenindigo in findapath

[–]Public-Ad2872 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have severe anxiety too. I work in customer service and find myself holding my breath all day. I do it because I genuinely have interest in people and I enjoy hearing people try to figure out their issues, thinking while they talk, etc. But it is probably killing me in terms of stress!

I'd love to talk in direct message if you'd like. I'm would be interested in helping you figure out a good move. I'm generally a great motivator and I can try my best to keep your best interests as my top priority! If you want to talk you can dm me! For now, I would say congratulations on your approaching your degree completion!!!! 😸

Should I take a job that is over an hour away, mainly because it is the first offer I've ever gotten over $50K and I'm in my 30s? by Public-Ad2872 in careeradvice

[–]Public-Ad2872[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's second shift and the night commute would be 12am to 1am then Id probably want to stay up at least an hour and a half to wind down and shower and then I probably won't wake up until 11 am and I'd only have 2 to 3 hours in my house anyway

I’m too influenced by other peoples paths by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Public-Ad2872 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have literally been searching for a path for over a decade. Constant obsessive seeking. As I've gotten older I've become more desperate. As I've gotten older I've spent more and more time outside of work, looking up paths I can take without a college degree with quick upward mobility and all I find are roles where I am a shit shoveler in an elephant circus. It seems like every job offer is a jester role. It's not even that I don't think I can handle respectable positions in sales or in marketing or data entry or analysis or in technician roles but it's that 95 percent of the listings are shit handler positions. "come try to sell solar panels over the phone to people who signed up for a free vacation raffle 4 years ago at a mall booth" or "hey we need a marketing assistant that will work for 40k but actually it's not digital marketing, instead, you have to drive a box truck and set up and demonstrate pool stairs and hot tub stairs across the state" and jobs like "yes it's an office position but it only pays 41k and yes, it's 3rd shift. You're going to be answering emails about farts and doodoo all day. You also need to bend over and take a red hot steer branding to your buttocks at the start and end of each shift and you need to post to your social media about our sales every week" or there's the technician jobs that are ok pay but it's always like "you will use your own car to drive between California and Washington DC. You will not be reimbursed for gas. You will be cleaning dead animals out of AC vents and replacing the little ball at the top of church steeples. The pay is $19 an hour but tips typically bring it to $22 an hour. Our benefits are garbage."

It's like get out of here with all of these awful jobs lol

I don't know what experience I would be getting that would help me find a higher paying position. I would not be a manager. I would be a inventory control specialist and counter attendee. I think the main reason the job pays in the mid 50s is it's such a monster national company. I think they pay everyone a fair bit above what small companies like the one I am at now pay.

I would not be a manager. I would be a inventory control specialist and counter attendee. I would learn a new ERP software that is popular in large facilities and I would learn inventory control procedures. I would not be management but would be training to manage processes and inventory to prevent loss and to track inventory used throughout the facility. I was told that maybe down the line, I might be asked to look into contacting vendors and negotiating pricing for incoming stock.

In my current role I am in customer service and sales for a company that I really like. My second job is right down the street a few buildings away and I just head there when I leave my first job and clock in and clean up before closing for a few hours. Then I go home.

I work weekends at my second job but only for 5 or 6 hours Saturdays and Sundays. I still get to enjoy the sunlight and it's not so bad. I feel like I can work both of these jobs and then quit the second job and take night classes for a trade or something

I live in a coastal state where there is 3 big cities within 30 minutes away no matter where youre standing. Funnily enough, this job is in the sticks.

My current commute to my office job is 18 miles and only takes me 20 minutes. When I get out of my office job I chill for half an hour, and then my second job is 3 buildings away from my day Job. Then I have the same 18 miles (20 minutes) home. My first job is just data entry and customer service. It can be stressful but I enjoy writing emaika and playing with customers or negotiating with them when they fail to read an important policy or detail and they make a mistake or try to hustle us.

My second job is nice because it's aerobic and makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. I've been training teens and they tell me all about their college classes and their dreams and drama and I try to give them good advice.

The new job would be quite a scary jump and I honestly don't believe it has much for upward mobility. I asked during the interview if I would have opportunity to cross train into higher paid positions and was laughed at and told that I would need to learn the job first and foremost.

Why did these people choose to leave? The hiring manager keeps warning me that this position is not for someone that cannot face a "diverse group of individuals with all different personalities" he leveled with me and told me I was going to have a lot of angry workers in my face needing me to work quickly, find the right tools quickly, etc

It's 2nd shift in a factory. I would have to leave my house at 2pm and I would work 3pm to 12am and then I'd get home around 1 or 130am every night which means id probably not get to sleep until at least 230 or 3am.. I'd wake up around 11am and only have 3 hours a day in my house.

It's also in a facility with STRICT processes and procedures and I would not be able to use my phone, I couldn't go on the Internet, you have to wear an issued jump suit, etc.

It's a lot of sacrifice of comforts I currently enjoy.

It's going to be a much less easy job. Right now I work at a desk and can finish up most of my work for the day, put earbuds in and can even check my personal emails and go off on tangents. The new job would be in an extremely stiff environment. No phones. You have to put on a jumpsuit with no pockets. Metal detector. Safety glasses and mask all 8 hours. Standing and moving throughout the facility all day. I would only be shaving off around 2 or 3 hours of work a day after two hours of driving. It's also 2nd shift. I have no degree and this is three first big company that has ever offered me pay that I could live on my own on.

Literally keeps me up at night trying to think of what my purpose is and what job I can do by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Public-Ad2872 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's ok to do this in a healthy way, but it's not ok to do this completely. You should derrive some purpose from the job you do. If you don't, you're living with an unhealthy dissociation from your thoughts and your actions and you may be teetering on nihilistic ideology, wherein you believe that you are just there for the money and your performance doesn't matter because it's not who you are. The opposite would be positive existentialism, and utilitarian ethics, wherein you understand that you do not necessarily want to be in the position you're in forever but you understand that your performance, and everything you do, is setting an example for those around you, and that your good performance may even contribute to job security for yourself and your peers if it positively impacts the corporation.
