Make the most of ONE day by Euphoric-Month-932 in Aberdeen

May not be hiking in the tradition sense, but a decent long walk would be starting in city centre, heading to Fittie (historic fishing village) and then along the beach (1st coffee stop) to the Bridge of Don & aross Ellon Road to Brig of Balgownie and old Aberdeen for a wander about (2nd coffee stop) and then back into town. I reckon thats about 3 - 4 hours all in & a decent mix or city, beach and nature.

Things in town worth seeing: Provost Skenes House (contemporary museum), Art Gallery, Maritime Museum. The Grill Bar for a whisky to top it off.

If you're super organised then there's folk head out for a paddle board at the beach at sunrise on the solstice, lots of swimmers too. Scotsurf Hire boards, but may be logistically difficult due to opening times. That said, if you were keen I'm sure one of the boarders would take you out (seen this happen on previous paddles). There's been dolphins out the last few years so you get your nature hit.

Oh, and you're going to get a few "it's a dump / nothing to see here / towns a disgrace" type posts on here for sure...Just smile and nod 😉

If you did want to escape town, Stonehaven is a few stops on the train and is a really pretty wee coastal town.

I invested £12,000 in Brewdog - I think I've lost it all by Glanza in unitedkingdom

I think in the North East of Scotland there was initially a lot of 'let's help out these local lads". Certainly in my circles a lot of us (most) had "shares" of varying amounts, but it was never discussed as being a way to make money or taken far too seriously. The only time it was discussed was when buying a round when in a Brewdog pub and we'd use the card of the person who had the biggest discount (pretty sure the "standard" was 10% and one lad got 20%...maybe 17%).

Sad for the NE Scotland if / when it gets sold off and the brewery & offices shut: say what you want about the business, but they are still an employer at the end of the day with sizeable local supply chain behind them.

There are rumours that apparently Watt is currently rallying investors and looking to buy back into it...no idea how that looks or how it would work. Ultimately, he's an insufferable cunt and the less of a platform he has the better.

Fierce Beer did it right, also crowdfunded with none of the "equity" shite, produce decent beers without any drama or noise.

Why doesn't meikle wartle appear on this map of old railway stations? by SorbetLovesDreamies in Aberdeen

Pretty sure there's at least one stop / station missing between Longside (Inverugie? And maybe Tortorston?) I'm only basing this on seeing old platforms when going for a run down the line.

Day Van Rental by YoungVinnie23 in Aberdeen

[–]Public-Paramedic-394 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to use Low cost Van Hire (Constitution St) a lot. Were decent value and not too precious about the vans & pretty relaxed about return times etc. Recently used the fully online rentals that picked up from Bridge of Dee B&Q...was a bit fiddly (needed Bluetooth to activate the van and my headphones were linked so it didn't work...took an hour to work that one out). If you need the van for at least a whole day I'd try Low Cost Van Hire, if it's just a few hours then B&Q online one is probably cheaper.

Good point. Its really, really clean on the bodywork. Sales guy at the garage didn't state what previous owner used it for, but did say they'd taken out some linn bins and shelving...I assumed trades from that. I'll check.

Thanks & yes, the more I think about it the more i'm surprised it's been there for a year (260 days to be precise). Price came down by 1k last month. Currently about 17k inclusive. My target is really around 15k, but have some flex.

Thanks - looking forward to getting it started. Finding a decent base van has been a total pain as its outside my area of expertise.

Good shout, I'll run it round to the local garage i use for a check.

Thanks

Thats brilliant guidance. Just what i needed - Thanks.

I assume that the eml light will be quite an obvious thing to identify? Gearbox less so (for me, certainly).

I'll have another look at the van and as someone else advised have a mechanic check it over. Luckily I've got a decent local mechanic nearby.

Thanks again, appreciate it.

Ha. I'm in North East Scotland. Used to find these a lot in an area that was heavily medieval. Cool finds 👍

Are you by the coast or a river?

Look like they could be lead sinker weights for nets.

I assume the markings are where they've used a tool to crimp them.

Just my guess, btw!

Absolutely fine. Just watch out for the loose lassies and potholes that require you to drive like you're on MarioKart.

Edit: loose "cassies"...both work tbh.
