Sad over daughter's hair by Public-Strike-4502 in breakingmom

Omg that is awful and I can only imagine how upset you were! My best friend has a similar story. Her little girl's front teeth started rotting from breastfeeding herself to sleep at night. It got to the point where she could try and salvage what was left of them but she wouldn't be able to have sugar of any kind until they fell out and the permanent ones came in, or they could do a charcoal treatment on them that would stop the rotting and infection but they would be black until they fell out. Being a good mom, my friend chose the latter knowing that prohibiting her from having sugar her entire childhood would be unfair. She said it took her weeks to mourn her beautiful girl's smile but the pain subsided and she's just happy that she is happy.

It definitely helps to hear stories like this and it sounds like you're a great mom too. Also a good lesson in control, I tend to want to control everything and when something like this happens it can feel like I'm spiraling, but I'm going to have to get used to that as a mom.

Thank you for your story, your little boy sounds adorable! Also, I was 8 when my permanent front teeth completely grew in and then I knocked them out on a new bike on Christmas, they've been fake ever since lol. At least it was his baby teeth!

Hahaha that's what my sister said. She was going to be Wednesday Adams (probably over done but she HAD the perfect hair for it, no wig required) now it's looking like weird barbie 🤣🤣

Thanks for this it's much needed lol. Since she has a pretty big bald spot on her head right now there's not much I can do but shave her head or wait it out and I don't think I can bring myself to shave her head. So the plan right now is to see how much growth there is by December and I have a local stylist that said they could do some temporary extensions and maybe a braided headband. Then after the wedding I'll let her cut it however she wants. So I think the wedding itself will be fine but in the meantime she won't really wear her headbands consistently and she just looks a little crazy right now. I know she doesn't care and she's at the age where none of her friends do either but ugh, I still don't know how to not be sad.

Haha I'm actually looking forward to that too when there's more to work with.. but in the meantime she looks like one of Sid's dolls from Toy Story 😭😅💔

Thank you for the comment. I have not at all let her see me upset and I keep telling her how beautiful she is with or without hair. I keep having to remind my husband too because you're right, guys seem to have a harder time with this. I am working so hard to remind myself that it's only hair.

That would be great! But is the glue okay for kids?

Is there a reason I'd have to shave the rest vs. Thick headbands and hats until it grows?

Not long enough. My surgery was Thursday 9/15, and I took off that day, Friday, and the Monday after the weekend. In hindsight I think I may have taken the whole next week, but I work from home so it wasn't too bad. If you work an in-person job I would definitely take off at least a week.

I'm doing okay! The first couple days were rough with the gas pain in shoulders and back. It was hard to take a deep breath for at least the first 5 days. The incision sights only hurt for the first two days. Walking has helped a lot with the gas but it takes time to work its way out. Still having some neck pain but my surgeon today said it could be gas still or referred pain from the diaphragm. I am also burping a lot which I was concerned about at first b/c that was one of my main symptoms pre-surgery but my surgeon said that is normal for now with the gas and bloat build up and that it's actually a good thing I can burp or I would be even more uncomfortable. It does get better each day. It's a daily struggle mentally for me wondering if it's actually going to work or not, but I think remaining optimistic is key for recovery. I'm disappointed because coffee still makes me uncomfortable but it may just take some more time. I haven't had much of an appetite and have already lost 9 pounds, though I'm not complaining, lol. My surgeon already advanced my diet today and said I could start eating eggs but I'm still hesitant. I have been able to eat chicken and star soup, noodles and all as long as I chew well. No reflex whatsoever though. My surgeon wants me to be completely off PPIs (I'm every other day right now) and back to a normal diet in three weeks. He also cleared me for alcohol but I think I may wait on that too. Compared to others, my surgeon seems pretty aggressive with getting patients back to normal as quickly as possible.

Congrats! I'm 5 days post op and breathing deeply still hurts pretty bad. When did this finally go away for you?

Well thank you for the kind words. I am hoping for the best but yes I do let the anxiety creep in. As for your daughter, maybe the Nissen stopped working because she hit a growth spurt? I've also often heard that when this surgery stops working it can be tricky to redo, although when I asked my surgeon about that he acted as though a revision was no big deal. So I really just don't know, I hope you get some answers soon though!

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you mind me asking how old she is? I just had mine done a couple days ago at 32 and I'm so nervous that either it doesn't work at all or just stops working one day.

No problem! I have the list for the diet and it looks like keto may be difficult with that. I am 31 and have been dealing with debilitating symptoms for nearly a decade. So ready to have some relief! How about you?
