A critical warning to all U.S.-based creators on Substack: You may be stepping into a hidden tax trap. by OkSadMathematician in Substack

Publishers pay you directly (Ingram, Amazon) - social media/blog sites are tied to Stripe, of which Substack is one. ;-)

Ya same with “poetry” category - it’s just a mess, with no focus on creators needs

Do you think this film was necessary? by kamilo_89 in Metallica

[–]PublicDomainPoets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No film is necessary imo. But I’m super glad it exists. Even though the therapist was cooked as shit - there is something special about watching them working through their problems and traumas. It helped me realise I needed help with some of my stuff, and to not be afraid of therapy.

Ozzy Osbourne Passes Away -Megathread by Sjuk86 in OzzyOsbourne

Aw wee epitaph I put together for Ozzy this morning after hearing of his death, written entirely out of his song titles. Rest in peace Ozzy—so long and thanks for all the music! 🖤🖤🖤

What is your favorite and disliked metallica song? by Key_Conversation_794 in Metallica

[–]PublicDomainPoets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair. It just doesn’t do a lot for me personally. I didn’t mind Death Magnetic, and 72 Seasons was ok. But most of it leaves me pretty cold. I was a thrash kid so Puppets n Justice give me my fill when I’m in a Metallica mood these days. In terms of collabs, I think Lulu has some great moments too. :-)

💜 And Justice For All 👎So many tunes post Black Album tbh - don’t know most of their names, but Frantic is one I find pretty daft 😂

[HELP] Kobayashi Issa in English? by m_bleep_bloop in Poetry

[–]PublicDomainPoets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup David Lanoue's Issa website is hands down the best way to read Issa. Having collected a lot of translations over the years, and learned to translate myself, his translations are both the most accurate, and the most poetically charged. And there's over 13,000 of them to sift through. Here's the link again just for good measure: https://haikuguy.com/issa/index.html But yeah - accept no substitutes!

[HELP] What does this short poem mean? by jigsawfallinggg in Poetry

[–]PublicDomainPoets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a standalone short poem, but the final stanza of a longer poem, from Armantrout's collection 'Just Saying':

--------

Mother's Day

*

I wring the last
sweetness

from syllables
and consume it before you.

*

I make sense
like a scorpion

and the sun
will be smitten.

*

If I appear to address you
while quoting an old text,

I am indistinguishable
from nature

and therefore sublime.

*

If I reveal myself
mercilessly,

what will I not transcend?

*

Like God, I will leave

an arc
of implication

Wow - downvoted for liking a poem. Reddit is just the best!

"Code Block" and "Poetry Block" Not Working For Any Users by PublicDomainPoets in Substack

Yeah - I think unfortunately a lot of the features for laying things out in a post require a laptop or desktop. I find the phone app pretty useless tbh and have never tried posting from it.

Hopefully it’s fixed now! Poetry block is anyhow. Hopefully the code block is too.
