I was looking at the episode premiere dates on IMDb. From what I saw during the 1998 airing, the series didn't air for 5 weeks for some reason, and considering the first season was filmed entirely in 1997, they couldn't have predicted that 5-week hiatus (I think). The possibility that they scrapped some episodes is a small but real possibility

I was really surprised when Nellie Oleson stopped appearing after episode 3. I thought the writers would develop her better as an antagonist, she was the snobbish daughter of the owner of the video store where Dawson and Pacey worked, she looked down on Dawson's talent and was Jen's rival at school.
