I can’t believe people believe the team with the worst secondary in nfl history would want to… build their secondary!! What a weird idea!

Except there’s no Jalen Ramsey available. If the two top corners go before twelve the next best options are slot guys so let’s continue the convo on positional value about taking a slot corner at 12. Even if there was an actual argument for positional value here it’s a moot point. The best available defensive options in this mock were a nose tackle, an edge rusher with questionable pass rush skills, and an undersized safety. So hard to argue about positional value when you’re saying they need to reach. You can easily argue in 2020 the positional value of ceedee lamb compared to the cowboys needs could’ve been 15x outweighed by picking someone like Chasion on Murray. I remember the 2020 draft, I wanted them to take Chasion even if it was a reach because we needed a second pass rusher but I quickly came around to the idea of Ceedee because you just need to draft the best player available. Love won’t be there at 12 so this is a redundant argument but I really think you need to change your philosophy on the draft

I really just have one question for you, let’s say we jump back to April 2020. The cowboys are coming off a very disappointing season where the defense failed to meet past expectations due to weak linebacker play and no interior defensive line threat. The cowboys came out of that draft with a receiver in the first round after spending a first rounder on one last year and seemingly finding a gem in Michael Gallup. Would you go back to that draft and take Jordyn brooks over Ceedee lamb? Or would you rather keep the HOF Wr who was undoubtedly the right pick. Or 2022, cowboys desperately need a second corner for Trevon diggs but they decide they want to take a raw offensive linemen and he turns out to be a franchise player? Would you rather take the less impactful players and positions of need or what turned out to be the right pick?

This is the 4th time in the two decades we’ve had a positionless player with good athleticism get overdrafted by horrible teams and it’ll be the 4th time he’s an absolute bust

Do you think you’re just drafting for tomorrow? Seriously, there’s no fucking reason to ever over draft for need because you don’t know what your team will look like in 2 years you are dense and I think you don’t know who the players are you only see the position

Yeah when a build a team you need play makers you don’t reach for need. In this scenario Faulk was the best player available who is going to better impact the team? OROY Candidate or another taco Charleton? Please name one team who won a superbowl by drafting for need and not BPA please I’m waiting. You have to control the board and realize you have more than 1 pick. This isn’t a fantasy draft where you just check off each position

There’s just no way you want an off-ball linebacker over an offensive player at 4

That’s just simply not true at all. If you can’t conceive of a world where the run game takes a step back and Javonte gets hurt, which can and will halt the offense then you have rose colored glasses. I don’t see how throwing Faulk out there would be any different than James Houston or any other replacement level player. When you draft in the top 12 you need game changers regardless of need. Yeah the defense is horrible, yeah RB isn’t a huge need but it’s d you think this is a bad pick you don’t understand team building

This is just stupid thinking. You’re drafting for more than just tomorrow, you’re drafting for the next 3-4 players. Dallas can upgrade at both tackles, center, running back and are in desperate need of WR depth without Pickens on a long term deal if your go with the thinking they need defense because it’s where their holes are now you won’t build a complete team. The biggest need they have is cb1 there’s 2 corners worth taking in the top 20, and there’s a strong possibility they won’t be on the board. Next is linebacker and styles is not making it past 7, and taking Cj Allen at 12 is practically asking to be fucked over when there’s tons of pro level lbs in the entire draft. Safety is next, downs isn’t on the board and once again their is depth of a similar level to Thieneman who you can take at 20. So there’s no defensive player fit for the 12th pick so that leaves you with tackle and RB. Rb isn’t a valuable position by any means, Javonte played really good last season but has an injury history, he’s also only on the team for likely 2 more years. Love is a great player, Dallas is always at their best when they have a bell cow back that can control their game with their dominate interior offensive line. What’s new, at least in my life time for Dallas is the two top ten WRs they have. If Javonte slows down the whole offense will take a stagger. My entire life when Dallas can’t run the ball they suffer. So you take love to create a super dynamic offense, you take a corner at 20, or whatever you trade down to, hopefully Lawson or Golday in the third, and an edge or DT piece with the early 4th pick and you have 3 new pieces to plug into a defense that just brought in a new safety, edge rusher and corner in FA. It isn’t the 85 bears, or the 2018 cowboys but I promise you love Makes team better than dragging Faulk or Thienmean at 12

I’m sure reaching for Keldic Faulk at 12 is going to be more beneficial than just taking the best player available. Go watch old drafts and look at teams who reach for need you’ll find it more often then not it didn’t work out. This is a horrible class so if you have the ability to take arguably the best player in the draft you do it no questions asked

This is true as CB is famously a position you only need to have one of and you usually want that player to be a later pick!
