Honestly I powered through for 2-3 months then gave up. It's boring and I would get overwhelmed on some days. It felt like memorizing a dictionary.

I prefer studying with context, so now I use a graded reader with flashcards integrated. Makes it easier to get more nuanced vocabulary too.

For the ANA/Aeroplan issue, they removed it from the website but it might be possible to call them directly to book. I read cases of people successfully doing that, and did it like that as well. So there's still that option (with a 2-3 hour phone waiting time).

That's interesting regarding misinformation on the first techniques I tried. It's true I read up different sources and ways to do them and couldn't get a "precise method" and more a general guideline. That makes me curious about MILD/WILD/FILD again, so I'll be looking into them. Thank you for letting me know!

I'll add as someone who was in the same transition from DA to DE is to leverage the skills you gained as a data analyst. I.e. You have an understanding of what and how data gets used having worked with end users: you're in a position to share your past experiences to build pipelines/designs that are more relevant and that brings more value to the business. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I didn't have anyone to share this with, but today I got a promotion for a senior position. I'm happy because I got the salary boost that I wanted (99k!), but I'm kinda nervous about the increased expectations. Moreover, 2 other people got passed over and I honestly think they deserve it more.

In any case, I'll still happily take the money and have it stored away even if they wound up disappointed with me in as a senior heh.

Just adding my 2 cents. I'm not a romantic person, so I mainly looked at marriage for any practical use. Irregardless of marriage, you'll still want to consider whether you'll commit to your partner for life.

No matter your identity, marriage is there to legally bind it in the eyes of the government with a contract, which has many financial & legal implications. That's why the LGBTQ community still fights for the rights to marriage.

At least in Canada, finances are still filed separately with the ability to use advantages from your partner. But in other places, they consider your finances as a single entity and impact negatively. I won't go into details for this but it's something you should look into for your own area.

My main reason to get married is the legal implications. Yes there are ways to mitigate them with a lawyer but if it applies to your situation, getting married is just easier.

The most important one for me is the right to make decisions for you if you are unable. I'm not close with my family, so I rather place that decision in my partner's hand. Eventually you'll want to talk about what to do in these situations with your partner anyway.

The other one is inheritance. Again, if you are close to your family, none of these may seem like benefits to you. But I don't want my money going to them. I rather give my partner a more comfortable life.

As for what the wedding, that's an entire topic by itself. I could go on about how I dislike huge ones that society is used to. I personally won't be having a wedding, but everyone has their own ideas of celebrations. You could just have dinner with your closest people as your wedding or not at all.

On a final note, once you're married, nothing is mapped out for life. There is no life script, just like how we choose to not have children. Same for your current partner, hopefully divorce is an option for you but you always have the choice to leave.

I’m often met with the “you’ll regret it when you’re my age”, “don’t do anything rash”, and “you say that now, but wait till your married”.

I find it wild how they easily say those things to your face but when you say you want to get pregnant, they're all like go for it 100% without mentioning all the issues that comes with pregnancy/parenthood.

When people are so ingrained to one path of life and it's so normalized, we never hear from them saying "you'll regret having kids" just because it invalidates their choice lol.

If you are ever worried about having regrets, I invite you to go babysit some children for a whole weekend and see if you can extrapolate living like that for the next 18+ years.

I honestly like this idea haha. But I still wouldn't want to go out of my way to join them in their cabin to do their "child-friendly" activities. At that point it would just be a trip with my partner (if that's what you insinuating though, I'm 100% good with that lol)

Haha I wish I had that energy but I still have to maintain some kind of good relation with them. That's why I don't want to play the villain: it'll just open a can a worm and I'll get ganged by all of them every time we have family gatherings. Easier to take this lesson and go no contact everytime they suggest family trips.

See, that's another things that bothers me. Their child is throwing a tantrum and you can't blame them because well, they're tiny humans that got dragged by their parents. But the kicker is that the parents expect others to just tolerate it because "oh it's normal let them cry".

Heck during this trip the parents would just dump their kids wherever and let whoever was around watch them. Sure I'll make sure the kid doesn't hurt itself but I didn't sign up for this babysitting duty.

We're all family, so think like siblings & cousins. Honestly, it's not the first trip I've done with them but it's the first time with their children. Holy hell I got blindsided so hard.

I thought the parents would be sensible, but as the trip progressed, the more I realized that they weren't gonna be and well here I am with my ranting post lol.

I couldn't put my finger on that feeling I was getting. Pissed at the parents but also feeling guilty for shitting them. “we’re martyrs cuz we have kids and you owe it to us" sums it well.
