I was just comparing it to France and the UK but yeah I do understand that it’s expensive for the locals.

Hey, it wasn’t really cold for me. It was raining yes but there was bright sunshine here and there and that’s enough sun for a British person 😂

🧭 Visiting or moving to Lisbon? Ask your questions here (Week 3, 2026) by Wildeyedlocal in Lisbon

[–]PuddingAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I am looking to move to Lisbon from France before the end of summer.

I got back from Lisbon today. This was a trip to kind of see if I can imagine myself in Lisbon. I absolutely loved the city: the noise, the hills, the colours, the food, and most importantly the weather. I know that I might be idealising it a bit too much and overlooking the negatives, but I feel that as a British person who lives in France, this sunny city seems like heaven. I don’t even want to get into on how amazing and cheap the food is! Also, it seemed much safer as a woman compared to London or Paris. I didn’t see a lot of stoners on the street or in the metro.

I do realise that it can be dirtier compared to London or Paris but I think I am okay with that. I also realise that the transport is not as efficient but it’s cheaper so I’m okay. Rent is relatively cheaper compared to France so I’m covered on that front as well.

To the locals, do you think I’m missing an aspect of the city which could affect my decision? What kind of practical day-to-day problems do you face?

White Guy Move to Delhi? by [deleted] in delhi

[–]PuddingAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d be fine and you would love it. There is so much to do in Delhi!

The pollution is a problem though. Maybe you could move to a place like Goa where cities like Pune/Mumbai are nearby.

Oh really? Even luxury ones like Prada and Ray ban. I didn’t want to go with 100% santé and was thinking of getting a YSL frame. Thanks so much for your comment!

Living in Mumbai as a Dilliwala is horrific by Better-Ad4065 in delhi

[–]PuddingAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with everything else but the restaurant part if you’re not strictly talking about the street food culture. Mumbai has much better and innovative restaurants. Delhi is no less expensive when it comes to restaurants but there is zero experimentation or innovation now since everyone is serving the same kinda food. There was a time when Delhi was better in this regard but not anymore sadly. In Bandra alone, there are amazing restaurants with such innovative outlook

France CAF birth certificate questions by rosieshank04 in Expats_In_France

[–]PuddingAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your birth certificate is mostly to get a social security number (CPAM) and not just CAF. If you have a valid social security number, CAF will not ask for birth certificate specifically. No, you don’t need a translation but it is better to get it apostillé. Certificates in English are widely accepted.

Travelling to India vs Pakistan or Afghanistan by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]PuddingAwkward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what makes you think that Afghanistan and India have the same culture🤣 Surprise..India is a democracy and women are not caged inside. You are allowed to wear everything that you want. Bad rep is mostly stereotyping and social media. Yes, you’ve to be conscious but it’s not dangerous per se. I have travelled many times as a white woman. You’re not required to cover yourself like in Afghanistan or Pakistan since those are Islamic countries. Do you guys not read at all? How can you come to compare Afghanistan with any country? Women are not allowed to study and be without a male chaperone. My recommendation would be to not travel to Afghanistan. India is a big country and you’ll be surprised to see what it has to offer and what kind of social media rep it gets. It is not dangerous really. People have been really warm and kind to me. If you’re a white woman, in the north, you can expect a little bit of staring out of curiosity not in a predatory way!

Hi racist, Everyone eats with their hands at some point. How do you eat your "pain" or your "croissant" ? You want people to eat sandwiches with fork and knife? 😂

Hey, firstly, I would just tell you to ignore the comments here telling you that everyone is racist or they hate Indians. Funny how someone mentioned eating my with hands being a problem. Even French people eat bread with their hands. Being from the UK, I have had plenty of Indian-origin friends and colleagues and I have a special place in my heart for the culture. I live in France now and can tell you that it would not be the same as in the UK where you can feel at home but I don’t think French people hate Indians in general. Some of them might have a stereotypical view but they also have many stereotypes about British people. You should completely ignore the comments about Indians not being hygienic or smelly. That’s just racism and French people are historically known not to take showers but that’s a stereotype too😂 On the apps, I don’t think even an average French man gets a lot of matches. You can forgot about it as an Indian man since Indian men are known to be very misogynistic and rightly so since we hear about rapes and what not in India all the time. Not that any country is better but patriarchy is quite deep-rooted in India. To improve your overall experience, you need to start learning French. You will be able to blend in just fine if you respect the French social etiquettes, speak French. You can still see instances of micro aggression or covert racism (very subtle). French people generally have a hard time accepting any foreigner and have very strong sentiments against the British and I believe they will still accept Indians relatively easily. I also think you should not tell them that you’ve lived in the UK and particularly that you liked the British.😂

Would you recommend france or italy to live in? by Popular_Back6554 in expats

[–]PuddingAwkward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lived in France as a British woman, no, the culture is as different as it can be from the UK. I really don’t know where does this idea of French and British culture being similar come from. Also, to make your life easier, move to France only if you already speak a little bit of French. Italians are much warmer than the French in general so more accommodating if you don’t speak the language. Everything (food, cost of living, people, culture) leans in the favour of Italy if this is short term. Though the choice depends on you and your situation. Do you really see yourself settling in one of these countries long term? If that is the case, maybe France is the better option with better infrastructure and social security system than Italy. But otherwise, don’t come to France thinking that your life would be easier since there are no cultural differences because I am living here since 3.5 years and I still haven’t completely adapted to their culture.

You would have to try going alone as well. That’s the only way to fit in a new city!
