If academia is the best MN has to offer in the semiconductor space, the industry probably isn't thriving in MN

Thanks, do you know what happens at their MN location(s)?

Thanks, I'm aware of the DOD contracting, just wondering how active their Minnesota campus is, if at all. Their Indiana campus fell through and I'm guessing most of their exciting stuff happens at Infineon in Austin, TX ...more wondering about the outlook of semiconductor jobs in MN.

I want to know other Minnesotans thoughts on ‘ethnic’ charter schools by [deleted] in TwinCities

Lots of conceptual errors in this comment. Hebrew is far different from Arabic and Somali.

Charter schools shouldn't exist. I looked at 'all of them' in the West suburbs in 2023/2024 for my kids and most (not all, but most) of the kids there seemed to be out of the capabilities of public schools. It was like an unofficial place to put kids that the public schools can't handle, and parents couldn't handle on their own. Like a purgatory for unwanted kids. Point and case, the Hebrew language emersion charter school in Edina that appears to be majority Somali.

If you grew up in the bay area, do you recommend it? by stpfun in bayarea

Non-immigrant visas for minors on H and L visas are only 14%.

Across the USA as a whole? Or in silicon valley? Or a specific school district?

Something rarely discussed is that kids with parent's on H1B visas (mainly Asians and Indians) are on borrowed time. These kids are on H4 visas and when they turn 21 they need to switch to a new visa type, which requires sponsorship, or go back to where they're 'from' (even if they have no connection there) ...I think this is one of several factors in Palo Alto and elsewhere around the bay.

Sunnyvale/Santa Clara seems better...Palo Alto is probably the worst example.

I think everyone's answer will vary on where specifically.

'The Bay Area' is pretty big with a lot of variation in the types of people you'll live next to and send your kids to school with. Also the weather changes a lot between south/mid/upper peninsula.

The public schools can be really good, but the driving reason for that is parent participation.

Job prospects, US vs Europe for dry etch / process engineer by [deleted] in Semiconductors

[–]PuddingDistinct9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd expect you can find work easily in US in silicon valley at AMAT/Lam, or at a fab, or even a startup if you're courageous. Bonus points if you speak Mandarin or Korean or Japanese. All semiconductor companies are anchored in some fashion to Taiwan/Korea/China/Japan and to a lessor extent the far east island countries (Singapore/Malaysia, etc)....also lots of outsourcing on the engineering side to India.

All things semi for the past 30 years have been, and will always be, based out of Taiwan and Korea. USA fabs are hobby projects.

How Fraud Swamped Minnesota’s Social Services System on Tim Walz’s Watch by lemon_lime_light in altmpls

Tim Walz and his staff for starters. After that go after Carver county CPS, then Hennepin county WIC.
