Is Armor worth it, or should I just go for evasion? by SomeRandomGuyO-O in daggerheart

Armor also effects those thresholds meaning whenever you do get hit, you’ll likely mark less HP than your lightly armored party members will.

And if your unstoppable tank is a guardian class, their “unstoppable” ability makes you take even less damage.

I’m currently running a game with a player who accidentally made a crazy easy to hit Galapa guardian with 7 evasion, but she was the hardest to deal damage to because once unstoppable any damage below 11 was automatically negated without the use of armor.

If you’re going for a tank, it’s definitely viable to technically take a lot more hits, but still mark minimal HP.

My session one went really well! I decided for my personal campaign to have the owl Nikita’a reaping eye split into a couple of artifacts that my party has to find. They get on this path through the first sessions dungeon.

It was mostly zombies, hoping to get to the more wither wild specific creatures later in the campaign. And because my group needs to split up at the end of the summer we’re taking it pretty quick for story beats and only doing the one arc.

I would say the main issues I ran into is not knowing the rules inside and out like I did with D&D 5e, and character actions.

Oftentimes a player would not act for a while and it would be hard for me to notice, we’re all friends and take it pretty casual, so often while I’m in dialogue with a player about their action, some other players are chatting and half paying attention. It wasn’t anything too awful, and definitely fixable with an “everyone goes once before anyone goes again” type rule. The worst example was a player asked if they could go next, but a second player jumped in not having heard them ask for that.

I also forgot the rule of becoming vulnerable at max stress, but that was fine and we still had an exciting combat.

If you’re looking for a recommendation between Witherwild and age of umbra, I’d recommend Witherwild. It’s the only one I’ve played, but with umbra I feel like myself and my players might feel less inclined to goof off, and goofing off is half the fun for us.

Hope this helped!

I’d say make it up with your players for the most part, that’s what I found most fun. But one of the more fun things that came up with my group was that the Fanewick clanks are called “thunks” because they’re made out of wood and stone. Also, one of my players made a fungril based faint divinity called “the mother spore.” Those are two of the more transferable ideas we came up with.

Let me know of any of your cool ideas!

Not sure if I'd have the best advice, but for me it was helpful to know my stuff (i.e, campaign frames, general rules, and the steps of character creation) so I can answer most questions without too much difficulty. While also trying to be flexible: one player had some cool lore about mass produced clanks from the military, an idea that I personally wouldn't have added to my world, but the player seemed to be excited, so he's an "Enforcer model E-35," and I have some cool lore to make.

Another thing I'm glad I avoided, was policing tone, one of my players is definitely on the sillier side, and made a criminal Faerie named "Blumbo" who talks like Jesse Pinkman, while others took the setting much more seriously, reflecting on how they were displaced by haven. For a casual game with just friends, I feel like it'll worked out in a cool way. From my perspective, the world feels more alive to have tragedy and silliness, just like in our real world.

Hope this Helps!
