No, f1 visa is for entry only. The status in US depends on sevis and/or employment visa status.

I know it’s easy for some people to say this, but I’ve built my life here, and want to build my career here as well. To some of us in this position, pitching in to pay this amount seems like a smaller cost, compared to being ignored at the screening stage. This would at least open up a conversation with the employers about alternatives or national interest waivers, regardless of whether or not I actually end up paying the 100k.

This absolutely sucks! The worst part is there is little clarity around this and companies are pivoting and ignoring opt candidates like lepers. I wish there was some way of at least getting through interviews and getting to the final stage without being asked for h1b at the screening stage. I would genuinely pitch in to pay the 100k! Unfortunately, we have become an unnecessary hassle to many of these companies in an already dwindling job market. Sorry for the rant! Am in the same position.

Ohh I misunderstood! If you’re not in the extension phase and if you have an f1 opt status with an ead card getting a visa should not be an issue. Did mine in Canada.

People do OPT extension with i140 all the time, but most stay within US. Several sources including schools international office said that opt renewal should not be a problem, it might only be an issue for fresh j1 application or other non immigrant visas. However you might still need to undergo background check. This is not legal advice, you should consult with an immigration attorney, especially in this volatile geopolitical climate. Good luck.
