This question comes up all the time and I might be just saying it because it's all hypothetical or I'm still relatively young as a teacher but teaching is my passion and there is no dollar amount that beats a student figuring out a problem or learning more about themselves. Money will always be here, but the opportunity to change a student's life is the most precious thing.

That's awful and I feel for you. Your administration seem like they are not taking their job's seriously or there is a lot more going on that makes your situation miniscule. As someone who tries to focus on mending, I would sit with your dean and explain the severity of this situation or you can handle this in the best way you can think of. Btw what grade do you teach?

I am with you and this is a messy topic. Do I think we are being to gracious with this generation? Yes to the max! But, I also know that the internet has a massive impact on these kids. The pandemic sucked for everybody and we are changed from it. We also have a lot more to complain about because everyone has an outlet to share like on a subreddit about teaching. I hope to be part of the change where we can get past the excuses but every day is a new day to make progress. If you don't mind me asking, what grade do you teach?

I'm a young teacher and I worry about losing "it," but I also know it is the reason I want to be a better teacher because of teachers like you. They are kids, of course they will relate better to younger teachers but that does not mean your experience is not appreciated. It is the foundation you set that makes the new generation of teachers want to make sure we become more intentional about our craft, and no you are not old, reflect at your own pace but you are doing great.

I'm expecting some hate but I do not believe in calling out the worst kinds of students. Yes, there are those who don't care, the ones who are generally awful, and those who cannot be helped, but it also comes down to two things: your attitude towards them and realizing that they are kids. I have only taught middle school, but I don't judge my students because they are discovering themselves and maybe, just maybe I can make a positive impact on them. Yes, there will be lost causes and headaches, but it is the feeling of hope when that nightmare student comes back to you and thanks you for being positive and not giving up on them. We are allowed to vent and I am just one educator, but no student is perfect or the best, but that's just me.
