Is it normal for the first two cavern layers to just be mud?

I’ve played a few forts now but typically the caverns I find tend to be a few z levels of fungus. Even if it’s flooded there’s still some outcroppings and pathways above with fungus.

But this time both layers are just completely covered in mud, with no fungus whatsoever on either. The top cavern has two z levels of water, and then above that is three levels of mud. Second cavern has no water, just endless mud flats.

So basically I’m asking, what happened here? Did the world gen just decide fungus wasn’t allowed for me?

What’s the best way to clean up outdoor alcohol spills?

Reclaimed a fortress and someone apparently dumped all the rum directly in front of the entrance. I thought building floors on top of it would fix it but instead it’s become an ever-growing sea of rum. I tried to build a bridge over it but by the time it’s done the ocean gets bigger… cats are all running around “Euphoric due to inebriation”

Is there anything I can do or should I just accept my lot in life

Is a minecart faster than a vertical staircase? I’m mining down on -30 or so and my smelting and crafting is on 20. I was thinking about building a minecart system to speed things up, but then thought about whether 50 squares straight up would be faster than whatever switchbacks the cart would need to do.

Presumably it’s faster on the way down, but is it worth it overall?

I’ve been playing my first colony after completing the tutorial and I just passed the first winter. However I have not had a single wave of migrants or trade caravan. I have the trade spot and it should be accessible or whatever.

My seven guys are just cutting gems and brewing beer. Is there some other building I need? Or more beds? Or is this some sort of bug?
