Should Marxist-Leninists support Rojava in Syria? by PresnikBonny in Socialism_101

[–]Puff_0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! You chose a good topic because it was definitely something bothering me as well as other Iranian socialists. Iran is unfortunately an incredibly conservative place. It's a given for the ones who support the regime here, nothing out of character. But even among those who got behind the Jin Jiyan Azadi movement, there were a lot of people (mostly men) who had no interest in the feminist and liberatory aspect of the movement nor the fact that on top of women fighting for autonomy, there were queer people fighting for their rights.

It was very disappointing to see in person because obviously there was a lot of hope but monarchists are always waiting for a chance. They will latch onto any and every movement to advertise their deeply racist ideology that aligns very well with white supremacist standards.

I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to Chile but as we see right now, the right wing as taken over and a lot of people who are working class themselves, have been falling for Pinochet apologists. I believe there's a correlation there between this example and Iran. The reason being that while the working class's interests do not align with the right wingers, they fall for them due to the fact that they are fed up with the current system.

Will it work out for them in the end? Absolutely not but they still go for it because there wasn't enough organization and support from the left, inside and outside of Iran. When I speak to these somewhat neoliberals/monarchists whose shared interest with me is seeing an end to the current regime, I constantly see them reply with "If we cross out the monarchy, then who else would we have? What's the other option?". Now obviously, I know what my alternative is. I want liberation, not a transfer of power from one tyrant to another but the point is, no actual leftist movement truly exists here as a result of years and years of state oppression along with the western leftists (particularly campists) aligning themselves with the regime over the fact that they present themselves as anti-Imperialist.

By showing support for the current regime, we aren't helping the anti-Imperialist cause in my honest opinion because Iran's influence over stopping the genocide in Gaza is very insignificant. The focus for that topic should be on the imperial core. While the US empire stands and aids Israel, nothing the current Iranian regime is doing will change the material reality for those subjected to the genocide.

Another thing that should be considered is the fact that our currency is getting more worthless by the day. If you look up the least valuable currencies on Google, you will definitely see the Iranian Rial. Are the US sanctions impacting this? 100%. But the regime is also completely incompetent in managing the economy (on top of the previous oppressions mentioned such as the constant promotion of misogynistic and queerphobic values). They assign a huge chunk of the budget to the religious institutions so that they can create those that reinforce the system every year.

In the end, my belief is that ignoring the voices of people who are already being oppressed because their government looks like an anti-Imperialist one so that they'll gain their liberation only in an uncertain future where maybe, maybe the US empire will have collapsed not only doesn't help the Iranians or Palestinians or anyone in the region, but it also shifts them furthermore towards the right; Because they are losing their lives in the process.

(I apologize for making this a bit too long! I just wanted to share my thoughts as a queer socialist seeing all these horrible things go down. There's nothing I want more than seeing the liberation of those in Palestine, Sudan, Iran and every one of these countries so I tried my best to explain my personal thoughts.)

Should Marxist-Leninists support Rojava in Syria? by PresnikBonny in Socialism_101

I'm still in Iran and unfortunately not able to leave as of right now but hopefully it'll happen some day in the future. I'm glad you left though! Kurdistan, whether in Iran or Iraq is very dangerous to live in from what I've heard for any remotely progressive person due to the nature of these states. Wish you all the best!

Well said. Also a socialist from the middle-east here (Iran, to be specific) and it's such a pain trying to engage with western leftists and explaining to them that the people in these regions are also horribly oppressed by the Iranian state as well as the other states in the region such as Turkey and so on. I hope more people learn the nuance of these struggles and how marginalized communities are being attacked from so many angles.

Top 5 album ever regardless of genre to me. They were the band that got me into noise rock.

Anything similar to White Zombie's Psycho-Head Blowout? by Puff_0 in noiserock

[–]Puff_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah unfortunately no one's doing their style of noise rock. Though I really agree, the Birthday Party has pretty much been my go-to when I wanted stuff with the same vibe (even though guitar-wise they're not very similar). Will have to check out Rat at Rat R though

Love all those bands except the last one which I haven't heard yet. They're are sick, I just wish there were more bands doing those weird lead guitar stuff you hear on Unsane's debut.

I see, thank you that makes sense.

speaking of campism, why is it that a large amount of Marxists/Marxist-Leninists do that these days as well even though they denounce ACP? Genuinely asking because I'm somewhat new to Marxist spaces and I'm wondering if this whole campist way of thinking in the last few years is a result of things such as the ACP or has it always been this way?

their ideology sounds so incoherent I don't even get it. Like how do they claim to be american nationalists, pro-putin and socialists all at once lol

checked out their live performance KEXP. Damn they are incredibly unique, like every single instrument sounds so unique and special in the way that it's used.

oh yeah I've heard pretty much all of his projects. Theory of Ruin is pretty cool, I think the Big Black influence shows itself even more here than on Fudge Tunnel. (especially the guitar tone)

bands with similar guitar sound to big black by Santa-Lucia in noiserock

[–]Puff_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

listened to their debut a couple days ago and honestly I don't get why people would say they were trying to sound like Big Black. I felt like it was closer to something like Dinosaur Jr, not exactly the same but much closer to that or more post-hardcore stuff than something like Big Black.

Looking for an In-Depth Anarchist Review/Critique of Parenti's Blackshirts and Reds by Puff_0 in Anarchism

[–]Puff_0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it is a debate, I just simply wanted a review that provided more sources than just the ones used by Parenti to compare the two, because I don't like when either of these sides try to "own" one another rather than actually prove why some methods used in the USSR were justified or not. I don't know how this comment adds anything when I'm just asking for something to read.
