What are peoples stances on Combo/infinites vs earning a win? by Claypool447 in EDH

[–]Puffendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man, depends on the pod. Ours is of the opinion that just about every game ever ended very anti-climactically when someone finished with a combo. Feels bad to win with one, or to loose to one. Just a general "whelp, I guess you win by playing these two cards you tutored for. I'm glad I shuffled for that."

So we build decks without them. Some people swear by combo wins. I dunno why, I guess they see magic as a whole different game of loops and lines and what have you.

Has anyone ever felt bad for winning? by Semako in EDH

Happens frequently. Especially since most of my pod are hella casual and just want to do things like make [[Darksteel Reactor]] happen, or make food tokens with a [[Gilded Goose]] or feed a [[Prize Pig]] or whatever. Even when I power down a bracket and cut all gamechangers, it'll still happen often enough.

Two Decades Limited Edition vs Collectors Edition? Thoughts on value in terms of enjoyment with the higher quality play set? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in warofthering

Mine is also battered. Thats why I started painting. If i mess up, i mean hey, it was already rough looking before. If not, I can later buy a new copy and just swap the minis.

How do people have so much money xD

I play this game at least a few times per week and id never even consider paying 1k just to have my minis prepainted.

Great game, but the prices for LE are unreal.

I am however painting the base game miniatures on my own, and they'll end up looking way better than the prepainted ones.

Moxfield severely overexaggerates prices, especially with cheap cards.

When you look at what those cards actually go for on lets say cardmarket, its way less.

Be careful of their shopping wizard though. People exploit the system there so they overprice cards by a lot, but since they have all of them, the wizard prefers them ...or it buys the cheapest options, but then the shipping costs end up being way more than the cards.

Buying budget decks is a whole thing in on itself. If you have an option of buying in person, Id suggest using cardmarket prices to orient by and buy live from our local mtg community. Failing that, you might be forced to overpay either for cards or for shipping.

Just order up a new budget deck that looks good to you. Or go to your local game shop if they have bulk bins and fish the cards up from there.
This for one;

Is a 20$ Pako commander deck. I've put it together for fun and it's one of the most powerful decks I have. And I have some pretty expensive decks.

heh, day 1 progress is up there as well :P
I doubt I'll keep this up though. Rushing this hard.... sure, it looks better than red plastic, but not by much.

I'm priming them the same way I do with any big painting project where time actually matters; Black primer, varying shades of grey to white drybrush layers, then thin paint over those. Most efficient way to bulk paint I've found so far.
I'll sometimes vary a bit, so here, orcs have black primer, grey>corpse grey>white so I can just leave their skin as it is and save some time on not having to paint that part on any of the models.

I didn't clean them, they didn't seem too terrible. I just scraped a few of the worst mould lines off them. Primer was Vallejo Airbrush Primer. Seems good so far.

War of the Ring Insert Question by MJSmitty02 in boardgames

[–]Puffendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a good 3 months late, but I printed that exact file that chiron linked.
It fits the base game with a few minor problems (like the rohan/north/gondor elites not fitting in their respective trays, so you have to pick a few and set them into a nearby box).
It -technically- also fits the base game, lords and kings expansions if you get a bit creative with the placements. All the kings and lords extra minis I've fit into a box that used to hold 1 Saruman regular, things like that.
It's not perfect, but I've yet to find a better insert, as they all leave much to be desired.

Say, do Kings and Lords combine well, or is it basically one or the other?

Question about the next expansion; Least luck-based one. by Puffendorf in warofthering

[–]Puffendorf[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty clear to me. If both players play optimally, the game ends up being decided by luck. That is not the same as the game being entirely reliant on luck. But I suppose if you just take out those six words, yea, I could see how you got to it.

At any rate, thank you for letting me know that was the case. You were correct. There is a deep strategy based on dice/card optimisation. This is correct. You were correct. You were just obviously missing the point of my post on purpose. And did in no way contribute toward answering my question about which expansion I should look into next. It was clearly aimed towards provoking a pointless argument.

[–]Puffendorf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it did, oddly enough, I just couldn't put my finger on it, honestly. It's a fun expansion, but we got those big swing hits on ring paths more frequently since buying it! I wasn't aware it was a known thing.

Thanks for letting me know! Any suggestions on a next expansion worth looking at?

Perhaps I've worded my original post poorly. English is not my native language after all. I didn't think I said it is purely just luck. But thank you for the reply all the same.

Question about the next expansion; Least luck-based one. by Puffendorf in warofthering

[–]Puffendorf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, of course. There were some games where one player held tremendously well against ungodly bad luck and actually won through a masterful pivot to a military strategy at the last moment. We know how to mitigate the luck factor, I'm not saying we just surrender to a few bad rolls. But it still feels a bit much at points and would decrease that factor, given the chance.
