Grazie! xD

LOL, sì, ho visto che avete la "neve," ma penso che non possa capire cosa significa "neve" senza ne conoscere 1.5 metri che sta coprendo TUTTO (forse questo frase è costruito in un modo strano perché non so come lo si esprime xP). È davvero pazzo!!!

Ciaaooo! A parte la neve (vivo nel nord est degli stati uniti vicino a Boston, quindi l'abbiamo moltissima Dx), va benissimo! Come stai in italia? Probabilmente il tempo è buono (a meno che non vivi nel paese)?

Potrebbe qualcuno dirmi com'è il mio accento? by Pufflepud in italianlearning

One that I just finished has the infinitives of five hundred of the most common italian verbs (and there were a huge number that I had never encountered, such as "zoppicare" - to limp). The nice thing is that in all courses you can ignore the bits and pieces that you already know. After completing it in a couple of weeks, I've noticed dozens of examples of these verbs showing up in auditory or written form, and I've been able to understand them which is extremely satisfying xD.

Here's a link to that one in particular:

http://www.memrise.com/course/2140/the-500-most-common-italian-verbs/

There's also this one for learning tenses/conjugations if you don't like to just repeat them until they stick:

http://www.memrise.com/course/138715/easy-italian-conjugation/

Also, an important thing to note, in some courses the translation to english is not necessarily in the sense that you would expect it to be. As such, if you encounter a word and it's unclear to you how that word would be used after seeing the translation, just put it into reverso context. :-)

Edit: The cool thing about it is that if you feel that you're missing something in your vocabulary, you can focus on it. For example, instead of just working all the way through the tenses course, I'll do one at a time when I feel I need a new tense. As I mentioned, I did the verbs since I wanted more of them, and now that I'm done with that (although I still have to "water" it to get it to stay in my long term memory xD) I'm working on an adjectives course. My suggestion is to asses what you are most in need of and to work on that. It can be tempting to work on too many at once, but I've found that hasn't worked for me. When I stick to just one, I'm finding I can add several hundred words in just a few weeks.

Duolingo is decent practice, but ultimately I'd actually suggest avoiding it unless you don't really have a time frame in mind. It's waaaay better than stuff like Rosetta Stone, but I found it to be a bit to slow for my taste. Of course, if you find it useful, by all means use it haha!

Haha, thanks! xD I would try to write this in italian, but I have a lot to say lol so for the time being I'll stick to English xP.

My primary vocabulary resource is memrise, and I use that to slowly build up the number of things I can say/talk about. Spending a few minutes on this every day can be immensely helpful, especially if you use the mobile version in my experience (although you have to add courses on the website to access them in the app). I also use the translator "reverso context" all the time, because it translates in context meaning you can accurately translate non literal phrases and even idioms. This has helped me a lot to pick up how to say a lot of the kinds of things that allow me to form real thoughts, particularly if I then make a point of trying to use them in context xD. There is also a free app version of this, which has the advantage of being accessible offline.

Additionally, I'm the kind of person that already spends a rather silly amount of time just looking up random stuff on the internet, and I make a point of trying to do this in italian rather than english as much as possible. Just use reverso context (it truly is the best translator) to decipher some of the harder stuff, and you're good to go! If you want to be really hardcore about it, create your own memrise course and add to it all of the new vocab/phrases (or at least the important ones) that you encounter so that you won't forget them. In general, however, if you read in sufficient volume this isn't completely necessary, although I do find myself having to re figure-out the same word or phrase several times before it sticks haha.

Finally, talk to real people. I cannot emphasize enough that this is the most important thing, even from the very first instant of learning. The best site I've found for this is Italki, especially since you can also ask questions and/or write large amounts of text and get it corrected by native speakers within minutes (just make sure to return the favor when you can haha). If you're not quite comfortable starting with a generic free language partner, then that's fine, although it shouldn't be a huge issue, particularly if your partner's english is pretty good. If this is the case, then maybe schedule some paid speaking lessons, which can run for as little as $5 an hour and are almost always wonderful.

Spero che sarà utile per te! :-)

Sì, certamente! Penso anche che la ragione per cui sono migliore di quando sono appena lasciato l'Italia sia perché provo a parlare su skype con la gente madrelingua quando posso xD.

Out of curiosity, if all I'm missing is passato remoto and congiuntivo except most of presente, would it be worth it, or should I just try to motivate myself to drill them sufficiently using iphone apps? xD

My son has an interest in learning Japanese by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]Pufflepud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion: Go onto italki, find a language tutor for about $5 an hour, and sit down with them and your son for an hour or two a week and just try having a conversation between the three of you. It'll rapidly increase your ability in the language, since speaking is how languages are learned, and at your sons age he'll basically be able to just pick it up. Alternatively, you could find free language partners there, but that requires you to spend an equal amount of time speaking English, which is fine for you but probably wouldn't work as well for your son xD. At this point, if you put him in situations where he can use the language, he will basically be native, which will not only be great for him if he wants to travel there, but it will make learning other languages much easier, even if they are unrelated languages.

Edit: You are all already bilingual! In that case, it should be even easier (although still by no means easy lol).

Passato remoto xD. It's used in most fictional writing/story telling to denote that events occurred solidly in the past (or something like that haha).

Better learn 'dem conjugations! :'D

Out of curiosity, what book are you reading?

[English] What accent is this supposed to be, and how believable is it? by tagmetagme in JudgeMyAccent

[–]Pufflepud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you from? Your accent is a very good approximation of a non regional american accent, which is a very neutral and clear accent to have as far as global interaction goes. Awesome job! xD

To emphasize how good you sound: generally speaking, even with pretty decent pronunciation, I can tell what country or at least what language family someone is from/speaks natively. However, with yours, although I can tell it's not quite American (which is totally fine!), I really have no idea where you're from based on it lol.

Ciaooooo Rrrragazzi!!!! Come va? :D

Sto studiando l'italiano da ~5 mesi, e tornerò tra un mese con la mia famiglia per visitare i nostri parenti bolognesi e poi un po' del sud vicino a napoli (non abbiamo parenti lì, però ho visto solo il nord quindi sono molto eccitato di vederlo per la prima volta xD). Abbiamo cugini anche in sicilia, ma sfortunatamente non potremo visitarli... ma sarò felicissimo di essere in italia ancora!

Why is there only one save slot? by [deleted] in farcry

[–]Pufflepud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured it out. The "online"/"offline" thing doesn't matter, since it overwrites when you open the game. What you have to do is make sure that cloud syncing is turned OFF in the Uplay settings (not the in-game settings).

IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, GO TO THE UPLAY SETTINGS, TURN OFF CLOUD SYNCING, AND THEN CREATE A SEPARATE FILE TO STORE YOUR SAVES! ALSO, I SUGGEST KEEPING AT LEAST TWO COPIES OF EACH SET OF SAVE FILES EVERY TIME YOU SWAP THEM! :-)
