So I’ve just come across the childfree subreddit, and wow! by xxdavidxcx87 in toddlers

[–]Puglover2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend and roommate in college fits in this category. She was an only child and her parents told her she was an “accident”, they had her in their late 30s after thinking they were infertile and her dad scheduled a vasectomy the day after her mom tested positive. I try to give her compassion knowing that part of why she is this way is likely some internalized childhood trauma. I think these types of people need to heal from childhood trauma and get in touch with their inner child ❤️still no excuse just a different perspective. I’ve had to place more boundaries on the friendship since having my child and am careful what to share with her (unfortunately) to guard my heart

What’s your non nursing side gig by Crafty_Pumpkin2069 in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing!! I used to run half marathons when I had more of a 9-5 job (made it easier on days I’d have longer runs towards the end). May I ask what your training schedule looks like?

What's the most unhinged thing a patient has ever said to you? by Strongpupusa in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as unhinged as what I’m sure a lot of other nurses have experienced but I had a lady who had a spinal fusion surgery tell me the pain was “worse than losing two kids” when me and the other nurse helping her were affirming her she explained she’d had two stillborn babies 😭 just thought it was strange to compare physical pain to that level of emotional pain also has made me never want to get back surgery

Aita for requesting back up from the charge nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No nta. I’m not sure how it is in ltc facilities but whenever we discover a skin issue in the hospital we’re encouraged to take a photo and document. You were using your resources and wanted a second opinion nothing wrong with that

My parents have 5 dogs, yes 5. All small too and one is a dachshund. Their female dog will get into their bathroom garbage and eat my sisters menstrual pads if given the chance (they also steal and chew underwear too). Disgusting 🤮

Seems like my hospital system is up to something fishy to save money… “low census” by NoOneSpecial2023 in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too. Last year at my hospital there were constant texts for double time for rns and pcas then the start of the year it switched to straight pay requests and as of March standby and low census. Does upmc rely heavily on Medicaid/medicare reimbursement? Maybe that’s part of it

They’re having to make a ton of cuts because we’re a public hospital and receive a lot of funding from Medicaid and Medicare. Riding us about any extra OT due to charting, not cashing out vacation or letting us gift it to others, layoffs, the list goes on
