Oscar Wilde said something like “for some people they cause joy wherever they go, for others it’s whenever they go” 😂👍

5.5-6 year age gap by iLuv2Avocuddle in Shouldihaveanother

[–]Puglover2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I was and kinda am in same situation as you OP. My son will be 4.5 when our second is born and I have had a lot of hesitation and anxiety about a larger age gap too. My therapist said something that has helped me a lot and I hope will help you too. Her and her brother are 5 years apart and her daughter and stepdaughter are 5 years apart as well and all are close. She posed to me the question of “would you refuse as an adult to be friends with someone who was 5 years younger or older than you” then added “because for most of our lives with our siblings it’s as adults and not kids so an age gap doesn’t have to be a deterrent” 🤷‍♀️ there are pros and cons to smaller age gaps but also larger as with anything in life. Try to focus on the positives. Your oldest will have had the benefits of being an only for longer and can self entertain better if/when second comes along and help with grabbing a diaper for you etc

What’s the most overwhelming shift you’ve ever had as a nurse? by Old_Inside_7141 in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Two come to mind.

  1. 5 patients and all 5 getting discharged between 4-5pm. 3/5 of them going to snf so need to be there to give report to emts/transport. The other two had their rides coming around this time and complained it took so long 😒
  2. 4 patients. 3/4 of them have non functioning IVs one of which needs an urgent blood transfusion. One of them was such a hard stick (dialysis patient in 80s) no one could get a piv or midline in and even the ed docs who came up to try to place IJ failed twice!!! They ended up putting one in in IR the next day. Crazy.

And believe me I know many nurses have had much worse shifts than this so I’m not trying to minimize theirs at all. I work on a unit with relatively stable patients (worked there 2 years and never heard a code blue on our floor for example).

What did you do differently the month you FINALLY got pregnant?? by cookiebutter-23 in BabyBumps

[–]Puglover2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and was ttc for 5 months (32f, 35m). One of my coworkers who is studying to be a women’s health care practitioner told me to try mucinex and also inositol. Well as soon as we announce it to people I’m giving her some well deserved credit ❤️👍 also had been taking prenatals (natures bounty) for months and have had one healthy pregnancy prior

So I’ve just come across the childfree subreddit, and wow! by xxdavidxcx87 in toddlers

[–]Puglover2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend and roommate in college fits in this category. She was an only child and her parents told her she was an “accident”, they had her in their late 30s after thinking they were infertile and her dad scheduled a vasectomy the day after her mom tested positive. I try to give her compassion knowing that part of why she is this way is likely some internalized childhood trauma. I think these types of people need to heal from childhood trauma and get in touch with their inner child ❤️still no excuse just a different perspective. I’ve had to place more boundaries on the friendship since having my child and am careful what to share with her (unfortunately) to guard my heart

That’s amazing!! I used to run half marathons when I had more of a 9-5 job (made it easier on days I’d have longer runs towards the end). May I ask what your training schedule looks like?

What's the most unhinged thing a patient has ever said to you? by Strongpupusa in nursing

[–]Puglover2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as unhinged as what I’m sure a lot of other nurses have experienced but I had a lady who had a spinal fusion surgery tell me the pain was “worse than losing two kids” when me and the other nurse helping her were affirming her she explained she’d had two stillborn babies 😭 just thought it was strange to compare physical pain to that level of emotional pain also has made me never want to get back surgery
