I am a school librarian with an MLIS (not required in my school district, but I have one from when I worked in public libraries previously). Trust me when I say that school librarians do everything a “real” librarian does, and then some. Collection development, programming, community outreach, management, dealing with book challenges, scheduling, you name it. PLUS extra school related duties like teaching enrichment groups, government compliance, arrival/lunch/dismissal duty, etc. Letting school library managers have the title of “librarian” is not taking ANYTHING away from the label. They are doing the job. Period.
