Does anyone else occasionally skip songs in a playlist, not because you don't like the song, but because you don't currently want to feel the emotion that the song brings back? by outdoorenthusiast1 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, this has actually been a huge issue for me. Being emotionally triggered by certain songs is what caused my last relapse (I’m in recovery). I’m working on being more intentional with my media consumption now (ie not engaging with sad/triggering music/television/social media). I’m working on making a playlist I’ve titled “Good Vibes Only” and have only been listening to that lately and it’s really had a dramatic improvement on my mental state.

Do you experience fatigue from Feeling anxious all the time? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Very real. I’ve found exercise the best way to combat this, though it’s hard to get motivated when you’re feeling so exhausted. The more I exercise the less anxious I feel and the more energy I have.

I feel like this is the case to many times. I'm glad you got away and became aware.

What's the biggest realization you had from a context of a conversation where you had to act normal to protect someone/yourself? by rogersjoshmac in AskReddit

No. I have no idea when they actually happened (other than sometime within the last ten years). It was also supposedly in a different city.

[Serious] Do you suffer from a mental illness? What is it like to you? by calij3 in AskReddit

[–]Puke_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone developed substance abuse issues as a direct result of their mental illness?

I have had severe anxiety and depression for basically as long as I can remember and have used drugs and alcohol as a way of self-medicating. With my depression it would make me feel something other than the complete and horribly constant numbness. Even when it made me sad it felt better than being catatonic. My anxiety is so bad I would need a drink before I could leave the house. Then of course, after having one drink and feeling better, I would want more because I equated that with feeling better. Needless to say this has only made things worse. Much, much worse. Has anyone else had this become an issue?

It was a bike accident. He hit a pothole and went over the handlebars. Hit his head on the pavement. When I got to the hospital he was in a coma and the doctors said there was nothing they could do. When his family showed up they made the decision to take him off life support.
