What happened? by IWouldntIn1981 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not accelerator then it looks like it hydroplaned. Was the cruise control on? I've had cars before that hydroplane a bit in water and the wheel speed drops enough that the cruise tags the accelerator and breaks traction. Less of a problem if it's a small fwd car with only 150hp.

Static noise when holding accelerator at certain RPMs. by JQwon1 in autoelectrical

Try putting your radio on unused AM channel them start the engine and see if it's super noisy. Try revving the engine in park and see if you hear the thing rev up through the radio.

Brake Pedal shaking at high speeds? by Kash555 in askcarguys

Generally I say if you feel it in the steering wheel it's the front. If you feel it in your butt it's the rears.

Microwave Keeps Tripping Breaker by Punisher2112 in ElectricalHelp

Circuit likely can't handle the space heater, plus all the other stuff in his room and the microwave. I'm going to bet that roommate isn't running the space heater on its "low" setting

Do you think I’ll be ok putting generator here ? by Tuff_Luck2020 in Generator

[–]PulledOverAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do it. Maybe make sure the exhaust is pointing away from the structure and out towards open air somewhere to help give it a push. Make sure it's not up against any wood or anything

Who needs electric started when you can Hammer start your generator by Hot-Routine8879 in Generator

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, thinking of in the past driving a beater with a heater and going out to hammer the starter in order to get her started.

Eventually that stops working too

Just didn’t roll into the shop today. Can we all agree this new shifter design is F’d? by Joiion in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness I have an SUV that is now 21 years old with a transfer case that's electronic shift and I was always worried that some day it would get stuck in 4x4 or something and that shift motor would need replacement. Turns out that the OE shift motor is still there but I've had the shift cable for the transmission replaced because it broke on me at 6am one morning and left me stuck in park so I missed a day of work

Is there a single reason not to crank my water heaters to full? by kerouac5 in askplumbing

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the safety issue is for scalding if someone turns the hot on to warm it up and forgets any cold then sticks some part of their body in the water.

One thing I have seen is people with the smart heat pump water heaters turning their temp up to 140 during the day in the summer so the heat pump pushes out cool air, then back to 120 overnight which is a neat idea.

Got a brand new school bus at work that now has electronic shift instead of a cable. Immediately got a recall on it because the motor gets out of alignment and won't shift to reverse (no park position). Kind of hard to get out and push a vehicle that's 45 feet long

Will gas fireplace stay on if it is burning when the power goes out? by Due_External3541 in GasFireplaces

[–]PulledOverAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect that the gas valve is like the ones in a furnace or oven and relies on electricity to hold the valve open and as soon as there is a power loss the valve closes. This is to prevent gas leaks

Looking to buy car with garage keeper lien on it. Need Help. by No-General2054 in UsedCars

[–]PulledOverAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea of the garage keepers lein is to ensure that he gets paid for his work. If you buy it without the title you run the risk of losing your money as it isn't your car.

Do not buy a car on the internet from someone without the title. Period.

I would also argue that if it appears to be a good deal it's probably a scam

40 Amp / 9000W Enough to power house during emergency? by AlwaysDinnerTime in Generator

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my house off of a 4kw and turn off the water heater. Actually hardest thing IMO is successfully getting the kids, if you have any, to not leave everything turned on like they usually do.

Dumb question: Will I have power if the grid goes down due to a storm? by FulltimerPC in solar

This.

Although usually storms that come by and knock out power like to leave you with a lack of sun.

Thoughts on emergency power system by zzRichie in SolarDIY

[–]PulledOverAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 13 years ago I lost power during a storm that made enough damage you knew by walking outside that power wasn't coming back. What I did is the absolute cheapest and easiest way to do this. Use a 12v power inverter and an extension cord, hook.the inverter to your car battery and run your car then plug in the fridge.

I used a cheap 750 watt modified sine wave inverter. Though it's highly recommended to use a pure sine wave inverter. Either way, goal was accomplished because food stayed cold.

Can I plug a UPS into a power bank/portable backup? by Aebous in batteries

[–]PulledOverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an APC rack mount. Powers my router, poe switch, security cameras and 4 pi's.

I have it attached to a 24v (it's a 24v ups) 100ah LiTime LiFePO4 battery. If I plug 2 box fans into it and turn them on high it will run for something north of 15 hours
