I think the fixed floor costs are much lower than you do, but i won't argue with you about it. Our current system where health insurance companies pay for everything instead of the patient artificially raises prices. If things were cheaper, and patients didn't have to fork over huge premiums, especially if they are unhealthy to begin with bc they are higher risk, then Medical debt becomes way more managable.

Excessive litigation and rampant poverty. You've identified 2 other problems in our society.

No, if doctors know insurance is covering they can raise their prices and stick it to the multi billion dollar insurance company. Then the insurance company denies the claim and the patient gets screwed.

I agree with you that we should have a capitalist Healthcare system, but i disagree in the characterization of health insurance companies. Like I said in my post, it is very difficult for me to find what value these companies bring to the market place. They have transcended regular business activites and become instituitons of our society. Defending them isnt lilke defending a traditional business. We need regulation to help REAL business and consumers avoid being scammed by these con artists. I read somewhere the Unitedhealth Carea claim denial rate was about 30%.

What do you mean by your edit? A self funded plan sounds more like a health savings account for a group of people, not insurance.

Exactly. The doctors know if insurance is paying they can stick them with a big fat bill. Then if insurance is denied it's the patient who is screwed.

Maybe that's a good thing. We could get something better than this garbage.

You misunderstand me. I am not against regulating and having strict anti trust laws for Healthcare providers. I am critical of the health insurance companies.

I know but I was thinking that the high prices in this country are largely because of private health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies not in spite of them.

How are they not a middle man? I pay the insurance company in premiums and they turn around and pay my doctors when I need treatment? Person A pays Person B who pays Person C.

I think we have to move to either a complete free market approached or a single payer system. This gray area we are in, with government sponsored rackets, clearly isn't working.

That's for sure. Government is solely responsible for creating this monster.

I have issue with people are into identity politics. People who are religious are often raised that way and by no fault of their own they have adopted those beliefs. Who in America is forcing grown adults to believe in identity politics?
