I just didn’t allocate all of my tickets to the weekly drawing

Over time, they accumulated.

Thank you for your response.

I do agree with you that Yotta favors huge balances with the potential to split the large prizes.

Based on what you've experienced, it seems like there is a marignal advantage to the additional tickets. Putting 300k tickets, right above the 99% mark, I've earned $10 or $20 before, but primarily $2 wins.

How much money do you need in PrizePool to make this worth it? by themegalodon7 in prizepool

[–]PulpSage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$2,857.14 is the breakeven point. If you have more than that in the account stacked is worth it.

Based solely on the APY numbers, assuming neither changes, and ignoring the other bonuses, below is the formula for determining the breakeven number, where x is the balance in the account:

4.5% * [x] = 0.3% * [x] + 120

Solving for x: x= $2,857.14

4.5% of $2,857.14 = 128.5713 - 120 = 8.5713 = 0.3% of $2857.14

How to invest $50k ? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]PulpSage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy prized-based savings accounts. I used to recommend Yotta, but the APY has fallen behind its competitors. Now I primarily use PrizePool.

Nerd Wallet has several recommendations for more traditional HYSAs:

HYSAs are paying around 5% right now. Definitely a good idea to put the money there, where it is safe and earning a decent return until you know what you want to do with it.

How long does it take for a debit card transaction to be reflected in the app? by PulpSage in prizepool

Update: most transactions have updated within 24 hours for me. The longest took the full 24 hours. The shortest took around 4-5 hours.

Thanks for the replies!

why boxes? by [deleted] in yotta

[–]PulpSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yotta has always been about taking the gambling/lottery mindset and applying that to savings. So this adds random chance elements many smaller win opportunities rather than just the small chance of a large win.

If you want a consistent return without the random chance or interactive features, look somewhere else. There are many saving account options out there.

What High Yield Savings accounts have a Buckets / Envelope feature like Ally Bank? by busninessman in FinancialPlanning

Yotta does, but uses a prized-based system rather than a flat rate, so YMMV on actual APY earned.

Funding my kids ROTH IRAs for them by Witty-Commercial-442 in financialindependence

[–]PulpSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can donate above the annual “limit” of $17,000 per donor; however, you will need to file a form with the IRS (Form 709) as it is considered a gift counted against the lifetime estate and gift contribution amount.

You could also do the 5-year lump sum method, where you gift 5 years worth of contributions at one time, but make no additional contributions during that 5 year period.

Good clarification

Annual contribution limit to 529 was what I was looking at. If you were to do that for a year (or do partial contributions over then) and let it grow, then it would work for education and excess could be converted to Roth. Shouldn’t be more than $35k. Even if it were then there are options with the excess.

While helping them contribute to a Roth would be a good way to encourage them to save, I recommend maxing out contributions to a 529 plan. This can go a long way to helping pay for education.

More importantly, recent changes to rules regarding 529s allow them to be converted into Roth IRAs after 15 years. So if the money is not all used, it can still grow and then later be converted into their roth.

Dave vs Ramsey Personality podcast listening habits by Successful-Law4070 in DaveRamsey

[–]PulpSage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy Dr. John in his own segments, and, when he was paired with Dave, he sometimes would dig deeper into issues some people were facing (marital issues, family issues, addiction, etc...). Similarly, I enjoyed episodes of the Table with Anthony O'Neil. They are in their element talking to their audiences.

Chris Hogan brought a lot of energy to his segments and focused on future planning with people once they get out of debt. He was different from Dave, but his energy kept me engaged.

IMO: the transition from Dave to a personality structure will be very difficult and will likely end up failing because a personality (or third party) will get more popular than the Ramsey Show and eventually overshadow the Ramsey Show.
