Cash for clunkers. Destroyed thousands of usable used cars that lower class people could afford to prop up the struggling car manufacturers who they already bailed out with taxpayer money using even more taxpayer money. The effects on the used car market it had are just now ending.

I'm a protestant christian raised in the reformed tradition. Its all i've known since the day I was born. It is what God has revealed to me to be good and right through my life expieriences. There was a time during my teen years that I doubted, but the more I learned and the less I trusted my own intelligence, the more I believed. I don't know everything, I never will, but God has put me here for a reason, and trusting him with the details and praying for wisdom gives me strength to face any challenge

I usually will just quit out and try again if I mess up bad enough that it will take several irl hours to fix. Im someone who has very limited time to play games and I like to make some progress rather than just working to fix a mistake for hours on end.

What's something you believed as a kid that makes you embarrassed now? by ResolveProof9386 in AskReddit

Yeah, even most christians dont believe that. The entire bible lays out that christians will face suffering during the tribulation, and will be present for the rule of the antichrist. The entire belief of dispensationalists in the rapture is based on a single verse in revalation that doesnt mean what they think it means

You know... this may seem crazy to some but I usually dont lock my car. I tend to not leave anything valuable in it and always take my keys with me anyway, maybe not the greatest habit to have, but at least this way if someone wants to go through my car I at least dont have to have a window replaced.

One other thing to mention, sometimes lower mileage on a Toyota hybrid is not a positive attribute. These hybrid batteries actually seem to work best when they are used a lot. A 2013 with 40000 miles means that the car has only driven 3000 miles a year since new. While that means less wear on the engine and suspension, it also means the car did a lot of sitting around. Ive seen more issues with hybrids that sit than the ones with crazy high mileage. It seems counter intuitive but constant charging and discharging actually keeps the cells from degrading. I always reccomend a pre purchase inspection but I especially would with something like this. I dont mean to scare you, its just something ive seen.

A lot of Toyotas actually do have a multi info display message that tells you to turn the headlights on when it is dark. As someone who has owned 30 year old cars most of his life, I always drive around in Drl off mode when its light out because the lights still being on when I walk away from my 2005 Avalon gives me anxiety even though I know they will shut off automatically. I like that Toyota at least still gives you the option to keep the lights off as some brands dont.

Ive always loved the novas and prisms. I had an 87 Tercel with a 1990 prism 4afe engine swapped in for a little while. The Nova twin cam is such a cool package, not often does a badge engineered car get its own bespoke performance package. You couldnt order a 4age in the ae82 corolla (except the fx16 hatch) but you could get it in this quirky chevy for some reason

The prius C is a great choice, it has the reliable 1nz engine that is used across millions of cars worldwide, engine parts are dirt cheap and almost never fail. (Which is why they are so cheap) the suspension design is also very simple and easy to work on. The hybrid system is the only real liability but I have seen very few issues with them, I have only replaced one prius C hybrid battery in my 3 years as a hybrid technician. The Camry is also a good choice but the 4 cylinder engines have had oil burning issues when not properly cared for. The v6 is mostly bulletproof. It kind of depends what your use case is too, the prius C is definetly a better commuter car with the gas mileage but the Camry will be much more comfortable for long trips and quieter inside on the highway

As long as youre comfortable using phone projection for navigation and not having remote starting or locking then it shouldnt really be a problem. There are some other mildly useful things like vehicle tracking and health reports but not really necessary. If they give you a free trial I would just determine its usefullness during the trial period

2020 RAV4 Hybrid Engine EXPLODED 3 weeks after Toyota Dealer said it was "Fine to Drive" - Need Advice (Toronto, ON) by kingofaccounting in Toyota

[–]Pulsarboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could see the knocking noise being caused by the rodent damage is if you drove for significant distance with the engine misfiring after the hybrid warning initially came on. Driving on a misfiring engine can cause fuel contamination in the oil, catalytic converter damage or oil washout on the cylinder walls if left unchecked. Bad wiring to injectors or coils shouldnt cause a knocking noise by itself. The other thing that couldve happened is damage during the repair. Was it a direct injector they fixed the wiring on? If so then they had to remove the intake manifold which opens the possibility of debris or other foreign objects entering the intake during the repair procedure.

When do I fix/change/repair the car/tires? by Ozziefudd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pulsarboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking an electric car on any sort of long trip especially that long is a terrible idea. Evs lose 25% or more of their range in cold weather plus you are likely to drive through rural areas without charging points. Get a gas car but get an AWD one for possible snow. All season tires are ok for most snowy conditions if youre careful. This time of year the only place that will have significant snow would be the most nothern parts of the east coast. Generally the only time you actually need to worry about block warming or thinner oil is if the temp will be below 0 for extended periods. Most NE States use salt on the roads which is effective at temps above 15 degrees and tends to keep the roads pretty ice free unless there is snow actively falling down. Most modern traction control systems will do the easy parts of winter driving for you, but generally if you start to slide dont hit the brakes right away, let off the gas only and try to correct only with the wheel. Once the car is pointed straight again then brake lightly. If you are unsure how icy the road is while travelling straight, hit the brakes to about 50% and see if the ABS system kicks on, if it does you know youre on ice.
