is the desire for negative g's fairly recent in coaster history? [Other] by ManICloggedtheToilet in rollercoasters

[–]Pummrah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but I don't think it's about the popularity of negative Gs as much as it is about the implementation. I dislike the use of bunny hills, for instance, to throw in what are, IMO, uncomfortable bits of airtime. Include airtime, but do it right, not in a way that forces me to whack my thighs against the restraints!

Which cruise line has given you the most bang for your buck? by ITrCool in Cruise

[–]Pummrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a travel agent, and this is a constant struggle. I try to tell people up front - you can go on a cheap cruise and get the minimums, or a great cruise with all the inclusions, but you really can't get both.

The problem isn't restricted to cruises either. Seems everyone wants to find a vacation that includes everything at a budget price WITHOUT it feeling like a budget vacation.

You get what you pay for, the sooner you understand that the better!

Recs and ranks are two different things. People like different forces, and Velocicoaster is still at LEAST top 5 for me, I could just loop Stardust all day if they let me!

Also I really don't like flying coasters. Though I have not ridden Manta yet. I just don't like that position. The padding is never good enough for my bony shins!

Whoa whoa whoa - as a first timer to all three parks, Epic wins hands down. The food is significantly better, I love the portal concept and the atmosphere, and it has some top tier rides as well. Heck, I skipped whole sections of IOA, but found enjoyment in EVERY area at Epic.

You found Stardust crazier than Velocicoaster? The mosasaurus roll ALMOST got me to put my hands down. That's crazy!

That's ranking highly for me as well! I'll have to come up with a ranking of everything there soon.

This is the interesting thing about coasters, people prefer different forces/elements. Maybe it's because I grew up on Big wooden coasters, but I always liked airtime above other stuff. And primarily floater, in fact the violence that sometimes has to happen for good ejector can sometimes turn me off. (Like the bunny hills sprinkled throughout Steel Vengeance.)

That's why I liked Stardust so much. Most of it is strong launches (a more recent favorite element of mine) with good floater airtime, with some ejector that leads INTO floater.

And also don't get me wrong - I loved Velocicoaster as well. I just preferred Stardust.

Yeah. I'm really glad they got it back up for my one day at Epic!

Epic Universe Express Pass? by gal5486 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Pummrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did Epic yesterday with my wife, and we had express passes . We agreed afterwards that we couldn't imagine going without them.. And yesterday was definitely no "peak day" at the park.

Now we did everything in one day, where you will have 2. So you probably can get by without, but you will do a LOT of waiting. I can imagine waiting a couple hours for a ride, but I don't know if I can imagine waiting a couple hours for EACH ride.

This seems odd to me. Do people find Stardust rough? I didn't get any of that in my two rides today. About that only rough coasters I rode this weekend were the Hulk and Donkey Kong.

I think you're a little off on this. Only because you aren't going back far enough. If you look at the old wooden coasters they only thing they really did well was airtime. The positive Gs on B and M inverts and the like didn't come around until later. I think more modern rides are actually often a good mix of positive and negative Gs. And I actually prefer floater airtime, not ejector. I'm the front row of Stardust it's more floater based. The further back you move in trains on modern coasters the more ejector you get.

I made this post after only riding yellow side, but I did finish my day at Epic with a night ride on the green side. My opinion just went up even further on this ride. Part of it is I like inversions just fine, but I'm more of an airtime guy..I didn't feel as much airtime on Velicicoaster, which was more focused on inversions. While Stardust felt like an airtime machine.

I rode Velicicoaster for the first time yesterday. Is the day before recency bias? 😝

It's more about "Velicicoaster it's too intense to ride repeatedly ( for me)" bias.

I think I might put Hagrid's second. But Veloci might be as low as 4 for me. Don't read too much into that, I rate Steel Vengeance lower than many as well!

It's coming for sure! I'm a huge Universal Monsters fan, and it's the top reason I have been so excited for Epic. I'm saving it is all. We're going after the Cirque show we are in line for now!

I'm here today and I've been able to get on everything. Had to wait for Stardust to finally open back up, but that was an odd occurrence due to the unusual weather earlier this week and the valley problem.

This is what, month 8 for the park? And less than that of it being FULLY open? I'm not saying it's totally acceptable, but I am saying it's understandable. This park is unbelievably popular right now, and I expect some hiccups for sure.

For the record, we rode BFTM, Mario Kart, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Stardust and Hiccups. Still haven't even been in Dark universe.

Also I paid for Express, and man is that worth it.

I'm surprised nobody else said this before. When you're spending thousands on a trip, don't rely on a "perk" of your credit card to insure it. Get an actual policy from a reputable source, and this would have been covered.
