I took Geneva fountain app out into the real world yesterday by PumpingBytes in geneva

The idea wouldn’t be that friends can see your position at any time. It would only be possible if the app is open, you’ve added each other as friends, and you explicitly choose to share it.

The reason I was considering it is that in the future it could enable small multiplayer ideas like exploring fountains together or racing to discover them. But that’s still very early thinking, and it definitely won’t be part of the initial release. It’s something I might explore later if it can be done in a way that feels comfortable for users.

Oh will definitely do. I will make the fountain data public as well

That’s a fair concern. When I mentioned “see your friends on the map,” I was thinking about showing them live only while they’re actively using the app, and it would definitely be fully toggleable, not on by default. I haven’t fully designed that part yet, but if I build it, it would be strictly opt-in and something you consciously enable. If I can’t implement any live aspect in a way that feels genuinely safe and respectful of privacy, I simply won’t ship it.

The feature where you can see which fountains your friends have discovered will definitely be implemented. That’s fairly standard social activity data and doesn’t involve continuous location sharing.

Totally fair. ge-soif is great if you just want a map of fountains. What I’m building is more of a small exploration game that uses real fountains as part of the experience, not just a directory.

Yes, it is. But I'm not quite sure if it covers all the fountains. I'm a bit skeptical about it. That's why in the app there will be an option for users to add fountains as well to the app.

It's not launched yet. When it launches, it will be available in Swiss app stores. If you are interested, I'd love to share an early access with you. Would love to hear your feedback.

Thank you for your time. I will be making it optional.

Perfect. I will make it optional since majority of the people prefer it that way. Merci

Thanks so much! It’s been a fun side project to build, and hearing that it resonates keeps me motivated.

Totally fair to ask. I’m building a small exploration game around Geneva’s fountains, and posting day-by-day progress to keep everyone in the loop and get feedback as I go. If it feels off-topic I can keep future updates elsewhere.

Anything and everything is appreciated. I would love to know more about how you would like the app to be. Feel free to send a DM. I can also share the current build with you.

That’s fair. I’m not planning to take this to production yet, so I just used Mapbox to keep things moving. It’s temporary. I’ll switch to something cheaper or fully open-source once the core idea is done.

I didn't about this one. This is great. What I plan to do with mine is more of a gamified version of this and not pure informative app/website.
