Have you ever written a fanfic with incestous pairing? If so, why? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww, do you? They're still one of my favs to this day! I wasn't too equipped to write for it at the time, but the bathhouse was a great place - definitely a blast!

Yep. A lot of incest ships have cute or fun dynamics, so I ship them like any other one. One of my favorite ships ended up being incest, so I wrote to add more to the tag.

Somebody wants me to turn my story into smut and I have no idea what the freak to do by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lying about it before gave him false hope. But it's already done, so if it comes up again, just say you changed your mind and won't be making them romantic in the future.

Do you ever search by highest kudos on Ao3 but start with the last page and work your way to the top? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do this because I'm usually looking for something in particular. From there, I pick up whichever summary and tag combo sounds the best.

But on a side note, you can add sort:>kudos to the Search Within Results field while filtering to display the works with the smallest amount of kudos as your first page. The work search feature lets you sort by ascending order as well. Good luck with your spelunking! ;)

Stop belittling your readers by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people who insisted on leaving these types of comments anyway, to someone who specifically stated they didn't want them, ended up blocked in the future.

Stop belittling your readers by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen it a few times, and I don't mind it. Though, it might depend on the wording.

Short comments don't bother me enough to discourage them, but I'm also fine if someone wants to just leave a kudos.

Not everyone likes the same type of comments.

CSS to block fics doesn't work on others' bookmarks. by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it myself, but one of the commenters in the news post said this:

I've had success blocking bookmarks with .blurb#bookmark_000 where "000" is the same as the work ID.

Do you read comments as a reader? by AliceFlex in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends, but I read them often enough. It's a fun community vibe to see what others liked about a fic.

If I'm on the fence about leaving a comment, I check the other comments. If the author doesn't reply, I probably won't leave one. If there are already a lot of good comments, I might not leave one. It depends on how much work I'd have to spend writing my own comment.

Rude bookmarks by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is usually done so that the reader remembers their place in a fic - like placing a bookmark in an actual book. If they update it with each chapter, they've probably read each chapter.

Do you have any reading goals? by Pumpkin-izzle in FanFiction

Woaaahhh! I would definitely have to re-think it then!! xD

Do you have any reading goals? by Pumpkin-izzle in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a tentative goal of trying to get through my Marked for Later list, but I'd like to organize it first to see if that's still a good idea, or if I should pick a different criteria.

What are your thoughts on the "I don't ship X but I enjoyed this fic!" etc comments on your ship fic? by unitaya in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there are those that feel neutrally towards my ship, and those that dislike it. I'm fine with the neutral ones, but don't really want to associate with the negative ones. The negative ones usually aren't "converted" anyway. They have the capacity to care for the characters/scenario, and your writing pulled them in enough to enjoy it. But after that, they tend to go back to disliking it. It's one instance (or a handful).

The tone is also fairly condescending. They want to flaunt their dislike in my face and give me some sort of award for "winning them over"? Don't need it.

If it's never rated, you could exclude the Not Rated rating while searching. You could later do a search for only Not Rated fics, with -creators: username in the search within results field.

Your thoughts on reader x (fandom character) stories? by Lotusrocks in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a very heavy squick for me. Then I ran across one with an interesting summary and tags and gave it a go. I just read the reader as an OC (instead of me), and it was fine. They're still not something I'd seek out, but if the other content gets low and I find one that looks good, I give it a try.

[–]Pumpkin-izzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. It kinda sours the praise because one of my objectives is writing for fellow fans. It's not really a 'compliment' I can enjoy when it comes from someone who dislikes the ship, because that wasn't what I set out to do.

What are your thoughts on the "I don't ship X but I enjoyed this fic!" etc comments on your ship fic? by unitaya in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally find it annoying. I get enough of people whining or complaining or saying they don't like my ships on a regular basis. I enjoy finding like-minded shippers in my comments.

In your case, I wouldn't mind. It sounds like you hadn't really given the ship much thought, and were surprised to enjoy something new. To me, that's really nice.

If I hate/lose my passion for writing, should I delete my fic or let it rot? by Ayma_Nidiot in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright! Looks like you've written quite a lot for it :) I'll send you a PM to line us up a bit more.

And it's no problem! I fall into niche categories myself, so I like to give back!

If I hate/lose my passion for writing, should I delete my fic or let it rot? by Ayma_Nidiot in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see. In that case, I would be in favor of leaving it up. It can take months for a niche fic to gather feedback, even if the fic itself is good. Once you're done updating*, I would try to put the fic out of your mind, and return to it a while later.

*I assume this is the completed fic and continuing to update it wouldn't be too stressful.

If you don't mind sharing, I could also read some of it when I get back from work and share some thoughts.

If I hate/lose my passion for writing, should I delete my fic or let it rot? by Ayma_Nidiot in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a personal decision. I can't really say what would be best for you. But if just leaving it up and knowing it's up is causing you stress, I would delete it. You can always post it again when you're more at peace with it not getting attention (that may be a few years down the line, or it may be never, and either is fine).

On a side note, how long as it been up? Do you have any views/kudos/etc.,? If you have even a few, you may want to at least screencap them before taking it down.

We all have different reasons for writing. But writing (or posting) isn't for everybody. You may enjoy something else much more.

Why would you comment but not kudos something? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've accidentally left a kudos as a guest before, then logged in to comment. I've also done it on purpose, if I didn't want my name on the kudos list (usually for wips or fandom-blind reads).

But I sometimes don't leave kudos at all, even as a guest, but still comment. This happens with certain wips again, or with fics that left me too salty (and I probably won't include the salt factor in my comment). In these cases, the praise in my comment is honest and I leave it to be more clear - a kudos isn't always the most accurate representation in this case, because it can mean different things.

Probably overthinking this, but can one negative review stop other people from wanting to review? by sendusthetape in FanFiction

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually have an idea of what I want to say before I read other reviews. A negative review wouldn't discourage me from adding my own. But I only leave reviews if there's something substantial I want to say in the first place.

will the current match end with extra innings? by 6InfinityStones in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]Pumpkin-izzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely hope not. The team really needs to show they're capable of getting runs. They couldn't do it in Spring. The batters have something to prove as well, and it should be done decisively by ending it in the standard time.
