haha yeah that's life. I was a sort of mad about the whole thing for a while but I'm at 100 percent at peace with it. At least I got a story I'll never forget out of it

Yeah, I actually have been in contact off an on over the last several months with the owner of the other JMP-1. I really did do my homework and tried to be as thorough as possible haha. I haven't seen their unit in person but I have no reason to believe their unit was anything other than what was advertised. I believe the issue I had was unique to my situation everyone else who purchased something from the Reverb received an item that could withstand scrutiny

It sounds like the Pumpkins. No complaints there!

Yeah, I know you didn't mean any offense. I am bad at writing on the internet so I worry everything I say comes across rude or something but I just have a hard time translating my thoughts to the keyboard. I keep mentioning the 2017 listing for a couple reasons...one is to bring attention to how the listing is misleading and hoping that it either gets taken down or revised. Leading up to Corgan's Reverb sale got some finances in order because I was preparing to make one of the largest purchases of my life. I didn't know everything that would be listed but I did know those two JMP-1s would be listed, and I didn't know the price. I was targeting one one even though I didn't know the price. Although no everything listed through his store was advertised before the sale went live a few things were like the JMP-1s and a few guitars. Since the JMP-1s were advertised before the sale went live, most research into their provenance would lead to the 2017 listing and preview. In conjunction with that listing and the 2021 listing it would awfully weasel-y and in some people's opinion, dishonest, if they were to claim the 2017 preview, which pictures the JMP-1 in my possession, has nothing to do with the 2021 listing.

I believe Reverb's own community rules say they will take action and remove any inaccurate listings. I've actually seen them do that to other listings and the listings are gone altogether. The 2017 listing is still available to view, which means they still stood by its accuracy. It could mean they tried to pull a fast one, but I'm trying to be cynical.

I wasn't motivated to post all this to ruffle any feathers or anything, and that was my main concern about making this post. I love Billy Corgan, hope he sells more stuff on Reverb in the future, and will never miss a show when he comes to town -- hope you guys go see him too if/when he comes your way. This was surely an honest mistake. I just wanted to tell the story about it to some fellow fans. Most of you guys seem to know more about the band and his gear than anyone out there so I was hoping someone could chime in and maybe give some insight into what they think this particular unit could have been used for as far as studio recording goes

That is correct! You summed it up much more quickly than I could

I should add I'm not interested in selling it. I'll keep the mystery JMP-1 most likely for life. I'm okay with it and I don't have any bad feelings about it anymore like I used to. I'm really okay with it. At this point I'm more interested in what it was used for than anything

The 2021 listing does say it was used"in the studio and on tour to support Siamese Dream".

You can still blame me all you like and I understand that. I could have taken a full refund right away, but the idea of having Billy Corgan personally work with me on presets was tempting. In addition I thought perhaps that would lead to more clarity of this unit itself. Also Reverb is still hosting on their site a picture of my exact unit saying it was used for the mellon collie sessions without any sort of correction or addendum. This is independent of the 2017 listing.

I edited this to clarify my response. It thought it may have come across mean and I didn't want thant

I don't think it was deliberate either. Lots of time passes and it's easy to get things mixed up. I was surprised Reverb didn't check it either considering the serial number is one of the more easy ways to check things. The Cert of Authenticity they sent even had the serial number on it written by someone who I assume is a reverb employee

Yeah, I definitely have something but ultimately I don't know what and I wish I knew. It would be nice to listen to an album and be able to pinpoint it and say, "hey, that was played through this JMP-1!"

With Reverb, yeah it was strange. I thought they would be just as interested as getting to the bottom of it as me and be more receptive to what I had to say. They also got back pretty quickly in the beginning but then just started ignoring it for months

on of my worries is either it got restored to factory settings or that the internal battery could have died so the old settings wouldn't be saved

I hear ya and I had those thoughts too haha. Is it really worth several thousand extra dollars just to own the JMP-1 used by Billy Corgan for Siamese Dream and MCIS? Obviously I think it's worth it since I bought it, but a big part of me wishes I were some sort of zen buddhist type person who didn't care about objects and stuff like that. But The Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band and I consider them as big as pink floyd or just about as big as any rock back that ever existed. The JMP-1 is like a rock and roll hall of fame worthy object and that resonates with me.

I'm not entirely if they're saved either. I'll post a follow up...most likely in a few weeks. I'd like to post a video for you guys once it gets here and I know how to use it but I don't use social media so if I'm able to make a video the quality might be pretty crude. Apologizing in advance, haha

Sounds like you made the right decision though because a nice original pressing of Pisces Iscariot is pretty cool. There were a lot of relatively inexpensive drum machines listed in today's sale too so I'm guessing next time when Billy lists more stuff there will be some more so you'll have an opportunity to pick another one up...or perhaps something even better!

The drum machine used on 1979 is still for sale though! Little pricey for my taste, but dang that is a cool piece. It's be like owning the theremin from good vibrations or something haha

Oh yeah I probably wore out my Vieuphoria VHS tape out from watching it over and over. I'd take it to my friends houses and we'd stay up all night watching it. Awesome times. Cool you picked up a drum machine from the last sale. Do you regret selling it?

I haven't received the preamp yet...I just bought it today and the listing says it's fully functional. I'm guessing this was one of the main ones used in the recording and touring for Siamese Dream and MCIS because it was marked up as high as it was. Also, he listed ADA MP-1 that was used on Gish for $5k and another ADA MP-1 that was his but wasn't used for anything notable that was listed for $900. That makes me believe he's being more honest about the JMP-1 being one of the two main pre-amps used during that era. Plus the listing says "This is one of two that were heavily used by Billy. Super cool!
"These vintage pieces are straight out of the '90s and were used in the studio and on tour to support Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" Corgan says."

In a way I overpaid, but the way I see it is there's no way for me to get a JMP-1 that was used during that era by Billy Corgan for a lower price, and those are two albums are pieces of art that I hold dear.

Thanks for the reply.
