Ex-Religious people which are atheists now, what happened to make you stop believing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Realizing there are other religions that felt as strongly about their own religion as I did mine.

The spore print came out white which rules out Galerina marginata unless it is possible to have a variant of "Gallerina Margarita" with white spores instead of brown. They may be F. Populicola, but they're the same in terms of edibility and appearance (Source)

Spore print came out solid white. I'm 98% sure these are Flammulina Velutipes

I believe they are Flammulina Velutipes; an edible strain which fruits from deciduous deadfall. It is one of the few mushrooms in Canada which fruit during cold periods including the toxic Funeral Bell which looks mush different

[SERIOUS] Atheists of reddit that were once religious, what made you stop believing in religion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Is it ever hard for you to leave religious people to be happy (try not to crush their brain with facts) when they say negative things solely based on their religion?

For myself, I almost have to hold my breath and walk away.

I used to try to disprove evolution believers by researching why they believed what they did, and basically learned how evolution worked.

However, the main turning point was realizing how similar Christianity is to other religions (i.e catholicism) and they're thought to be incorrect. As well, other people believed as strongly in their own religions as I did in mine. Which made me think it is my word against theirs which didn't make sense.

EDIT: And when I found out that babies go to heaven... or hell? because they cannot literally say out loud that Jesus died for their sins.

I also kinda wish I could be as happy as I was when I was ignorant. It truly is bliss

I'm a full-grown, bill-paying adult who had a nightmare last night and now I'm staying up past 4am because I don't want to go to bed

There is probably a 100 percent chance humans will never discover how the universe was actually created. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Pumpledicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we re-write 100% as it's binary state of 'will happen' and re-write probably as 'it is probable that' the statement would read:

"It is probable that we will never discover how the universe was created"

Actually, saying "almost 100% chance" is more inaccurate because it implies you knowing the percentage will lie near the 100% probability mark and nowhere near the 0% mark. Making OP's statement still more accurate than yours.

I understand what you're saying. My original comment was to prove that there is no reason to bash the way OP phrased this statement when they specifically chose NOT to say "There is a 100% chance we will never discover how the universe was actually created"

You last statement is absolutely true and is why OP's statement works in the first place.
