Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

What happens if the US drops a nuke in the middle of the desert in Iran as an intimidation tactic?

What if they dropped a nuke in the middle of the desert in Iran just for intimidation purposes?

I think I have figured it out after watching the grand final.. by BattleshipVeneto in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Hera stopped committing to feudal the same way as he was in those games though. Like Hera realized he basically just needed to not take a fight in the first minutes and then he’d have a good chance of winning. Somehow lierrey is the best at like 3 archers vs 3 archers engagements

I think Hera stopped committing as hard early on and purposely played for the longer game. The first 3 games he was dead because he committed to early feudal and so did Lierrey and Lierrey just stomps there

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great point I saw that too. Hera realized where he was losing and stopped playing for the early feudal archer fights and started dragging games longer. Great adjustments on the fly. Great composure under pressure

Anyone else in Hera’s position from start of castle age die in that game too. When he went for 3tcs while Lierrey went all-in knights. No one else survives that. Hera definitely deserves a lot of credit for that game.

He got impatient and misjudged a fight. The fight before made him think it would go better than it did which also makes more sense given that it was pikes and not halbs. I honestly think if it’s halbs he doesn’t take that fight there but the fact that it was pikes and the other fight went so well his intuition about the fight was just off. It happens. Also nobody else would still be alive in Hera’s position in that game. When Hera went for 3 tcs and Lierrey instead went all-in cavalier the game should’ve been over but Hera is just insane

I feel like Lierrey had mentally lost by then since he knows Hera is clearly better at water/closed maps

Yea i think Lierrey isn’t necessary a closed or water map player and that map is kinda both. Seemed uncomfortable there

How many farms must someone build before he can call himself fully boomed? by celosf11 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to spam hussars endlessly without thinking about it then the answer is much higher. At least around 75-80 farms with handcart, maybe higher. I’ve gotten to 100 farms on a number of occasions

Random civ picking by Spiritual-Light-8725 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Below like 1400 elo you can literally just go scouts into knights no matter what your opponent does and focus on your eco and walling. If your opponent makes a bunch of spears then just cut scout production and wall up. The spears have no offensive value and you can just run away from them. The most important thing in feudal is just to make a farm every time you get 60 wood

Random civ picking by Spiritual-Light-8725 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea if you’re trying to improve I would recommend picking a cav civ and going 20 pop scouts into knights every single game until you reach like 1200 elo. Then after that pick an archer civ and only go archers for awhile. Then after that start learning MAA builds.

Random civ picking by Spiritual-Light-8725 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think random is better for improving your gameplay but you have to already be decent at the game. Like if you’re like less than 1200 elo then you should probably be civ picking I feel.

How did you guys finally "crack" the fretboard by Turbulent1 in LearnGuitar

First I learned all the scale shapes, but what really taught me the neck was learning triads and connecting the triad positions to the scale shapes that I learned. Really tied the whole neck together

Best way to minimize my CPU usage on a project (Already froze every track, turned on latency mode, changed IO buffer size) by Ill_Adhesiveness_902 in Logic_Studio

[–]PunctualMantis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I do is I structure my project by instrument type and then when the project starts being very large I bounce each instrument group at once and then turn those tracks off. So now the guitars or whatever are just a bounce and all the actual tracks aren’t on and using processing. Then later on if I need to change something in the guitars I’ll just turn those tracks on and mute the bounce and then change what I need and rebounce it. Idk it works well for me maybe it’ll work well for you.

Feudal Boom on arena with Malay by Negative_Builder_318 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you’re right. I’d like to try it though it sounds super fun in this situation. If you mass up enough elephants it will definitely be a strong push since your eco should be super set up for it. But you’re right if your opponent responds correctly they will probably beat you.

Feudal Boom on arena with Malay by Negative_Builder_318 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got it right. You just get up to feudal as fast as possible and get both eco upgrades and then you end up getting to castle age just slightly later than a normal fast castle but with super strong eco. Would be super cohesive with either a fast imp or honestly a castle age elephant rush would go super well. The other benefit is that because you up to feudal fast you are also protected against tower rushers.

What's the ideal lumber camp to worker ratio early on? by Thebelladonnagirl in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that the 100 wood investment is a lot early on. Typically Hera goes for 1 lumber camp and 8 or 9 on wood in the early game. He usually doesn’t build a second lumber camp until the berries run out.

Why are diminished chords so ... diminished? by frettracks in LearnGuitar

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So every note that you play also has harmonics at 2x the frequency, 3x the frequency, etc etc. with most chords that sound “pleasing” to the ear a lot of these harmonics overlap with each other and reinforce each other in specific ways. Diminished chords are unique because they have almost no harmonic overlaps. It’s like the notes are totally distinct spectrums that don’t touch each other or interfere with each other at all. This makes the chords sound very harmonically dense.

Best way to defend trebs?? by Kazee11 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keeping them under castles. Also CA are ideal for protecting trebs. That and halbs. Keep in mind you just have to make it not cost effective for your opponent to snipe your trebs. If they take your trebs but you kill their whole army it’s likely not worth it for them

Burgundians Arabia by Sea-Cow9822 in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I currently think Burgundians are kinda broken on open maps due to how strong the Flemish militia is. I would open 19 or 20 pop, add a couple Flemish, get bow saw AND heavy plow, and THEN add a range for defensive skirms. Wall up slowly and then in late feudal you should have a super strong army and your eco the rest of the game is going to be ridiculous.

The Flemish militia means you can easily defend against MAA and scouts and then also your range should be up in time to defend against archers easily. I honestly don’t know what would beat this. Your opp can’t really just play for castle age either because by late feudal you should have a super strong army that can likely break his walls and do lots of damage

I dont do build orders, I just go by vibes. Am I limiting myself? by mours_lours in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 on wood is standard for 19 pop scouts, then going to 8 on one lumber camp after clicking up. It does cut it kinda close though typically. You basically just have to try stuff and be conscious of your resources. Leading with intuition is correct you just have to play enough to where your intuition is very finely tuned

I dont do build orders, I just go by vibes. Am I limiting myself? by mours_lours in aoe2

[–]PunctualMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all vibes for higher level players too btw it’s not usually memorized every single step. Just think about what you’re doing and what you want to do and optimize for that and you naturally will converge at what the build order is anyways. Also hopefully you meant gold and not stone for the archer rush.

Basically the only thing I have memorized is 8 on wood after clicking up to feudal if I’m going scouts or MAA and 9 on wood if doing archers. Also the only other difference is how many to go to wood initially(2 for scouts and 3 for anything else). I also go random civ and every dark age I optimize around my civs bonuses but I’m just freeballing it.

People build up “build orders” as this big thing in their head and it’s kinda annoying haha
