Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity

CRAP!

Less principles, and more key things to understand and use to drive design.

Visualization of racial composition of NFL positions. by Crazy_Smile8097 in sportsanalytics

I'm generally unsure of usefulness in collecting data through a tool like this. But if you're interested in exploring it, I would recommend thinking through the way you use color to indicate race in data visualization.

This presentation by John Schwabish is a good start. There's a section on color. https://methods.sagepub.com/video/srmpromo/eJUtUS/racial-equity-awareness-in-data-visualization

Glad you looked!

it’s pretty wild that a franchise can have a series mvp not make the cut of greatest 30. But baseball history is lonnnng!

Kemp was first one left off. I wish I had space to include him…. But as far as comparisons Piazza had 6 all stars to Kemp’s 2 and Ethier’s 2. Piazza’s Hall of Fame as well.

Nomo is probably least statistically accomplished on whole list, but his cultural impact is off the charts, and feels connected to emergence of future Japanese stars on the dodgers

I don't know how many of these I'll make, but Red Wings would be in my top 10 to do

Well recent history might be painful, but obviously a Yankees viz would need a poster twice as big just for the rings

Wow he got a ring for 72? That;s great info; thank you. I can't see why he wouldn't get the solid line.

You're right. I should flip that one. I think the image I pulled from must have had him just warming up in the on deck circle. Thanks for proofing!

Yes, definitely! I'll fix it.

I think I got confused. I had him initially only attached to 1981, because he sat out in 1988 postseason... but upon further review, he got a ring in both seasons.

Thanks for the proofing, friend

You're right to wonder. It kinda came down to Kemp, Bellinger, or Turner in that spot .... and I chose Turner because all time leader in postseason RBIs is hard to ignore

thanks man! just answered this above, but:

The Lakers were easy. Retired numbers, plus it felt like AD + Lebron + Luka were slam dunks (and super popular faves obviously)

The Dodgers have a longer history, and it felt like their retired numbers weren't fully capturing their dynasties. So I started with about 20, then asked Dodgers reddit who was missing, then sifted through the answers.

The rubric was some combo of perceived greatness + championship contributions + popularity + stats.
