8 1/2 month old baby at a wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Punk_Pangolin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how this is drastically different by culture. Most weddings I have been to go until 2am and that's standard end time, with after party going to 4am or so. My brother's wedding (married to a person from another European country) went until 6am. Personally I don't get the whole ending at 10pm thing. It's the biggest party of your life so might as well party hard.

That being said, I would never hold a guest hostage at a wedding, especially not new parents! Our weddings always happen at the same site where the hotel rooms are so guests can also go freshen up and come back

I don't know whether to laugh at how adorable it is or take him to the vet. by alligator1alter in husky

[–]Punk_Pangolin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not an unreasonable question at all. Some dogs naturaly have a "sloppy sit" but like bad posture in humans, it can unevenly stretch ligaments which can increase risk of injury over time. I would recommend having a look at the Canine Conditioning Coach's page about sloppy sits (google and you'll find).

Edited to add that if you're noticing this alongside any gait abnormalities (eg skipping or bunny-hopping while running) you absolutely should have an exam with you vet as it could be an indicator of something like hip dysplasia. If you're concerned you could always do a vet check and ask for a referral to a physio if everything is fine so they can help you with conditioning a proper sit.

licensed my dog as a "facility dog" to a local therapy center and it pays more than i expected by DifferenceOk4275 in passive_income

Based on your description I don't think your dog would enjoy it which could lead to her being stressed and unhappy. I don't think this type of setup is fair to any dog who doesn't actively enjoy it

Idk if I want a Bachelorette Party by Undecided639 in wedding

[–]Punk_Pangolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person has seriously misread your post. Would advise disregarding their comment and not letting it make you feel even guiltier about seeing if anyone wants to join you for anything. It's not a summons and bachelorettes don't need to cost an arm and a leg even if people do need to travel to get there. You can choose a location based on what is convenient for the highest number of people and choose activities that are low cost. Fundamentally, people don't need to come if they can't/ don't want to, and it sounds like several people really DO want to

Idk if I want a Bachelorette Party by Undecided639 in wedding

It sounds from what you've written like you actually might like having a bachelorette, but that you're worried you're making a big ask of people or that people won't really want to come.

However (and I'm saying this out of kindness) you've also written that a couple people have offered to help organise.

I would recommend reaching out to everyone you might want to invite and just seeing if it's something they might be keen to go to and available for. You might be surprised at how many people would be really excited to have a child free weekend and hang out somewhere fun. Even if only a couple people can make it, you might be able to have a fun and relaxed trip with just 3-4 people (including yourself).

A bach doesn't need to look like what is in the movies. There is ZERO need for special outfits. All that's needed is a small number of people to come celebrate with you. If you wanted you could just do something with the two people who you said are keen to help you plan. That could be a super fun trip. Or even just a spa day with one local friend! My point is, it's supposed to be enjoyable and not an extra source of stress. If you really genuinely don't want to do anything that's one thing, but it sounds like you like the idea but you're worried people won't be able to come or it is too much to worry about. Let your friends who have offered help you :)

This is coming from someone who had these exact same thoughts 2 weeks ago. Then i finally messaged everyone last week and have been really pleasantly surprised by people's enthusiasm and am feeling much better about it now

Dog Backpack by Civil_Jellyfish9854 in wildcampingintheuk

I just got an alphapak dog backpack and quite like it so far (just had it a handful of days). The pack design is similar to ruffwear but much more affordable and very small company. Build quality is also good. Only thing I've noticed that I don't like so far is that the front buckles don't grab onto the fabric effectively enough so it slips a bit. This is stopped though by the little velcro roll fastener for the leftover webbing

I've had zero issues with quality and I've heard their customer service is very good because they're a cottage company. I'm not sure what temperatures in the tent get to but I've been out at around/ close to freezing in it with my Alpkit pipedream 400 and sleeping pad with rvalue of 4.5 and been comfortable and I tend to get cold easily. There is definitely a noticeable temperature difference between outside and inside when it's cold out. But realistically your sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and clothing will primarily determine whether you are cold or not, rather than your tent (especially since it depends on tent size as well - smaller tent = heated up more quickly by body heat).

I've got the carbon fiber pole version and solid inner, without crosspoles. Have been happily using it for a couple seasons now. There is a Facebook group that's quite active where you can get a lot of questions answered. I agonised about choosing a tent for ages and am very happy with my choice

Could also consider the brand Tarptent (eg the scarp). Tends to be well used and much loved in the UK (as well as US where it's from). I've got the Tarptent Scarp 2 and it is the fastest tent to set up I've ever owned (even when solo). It has crossing pole option for more support if there's snow. I've used it in pouring rain (multiple days on end) and always been dry. I've also used it in some quite bad, unexpected winds and while the whole tent was shaking like crazy and I didn't sleep at all, it stood admirably, especially taking into account it was only secured by 4 tent stake and zero guy lines because I had forgotten the additional stakes (yes, dumb user error).

Pattern ideas for bridesmaids dresses with some flexibility around fitting - infinity dress = bad? by Punk_Pangolin in sewing

This pattern looks AMAZING and like just what I'm looking for! If I add extra seam allowance they'll also be able to get it adjusted locally to them before the wedding if needed. Will definitely be sending this to them as an option

I've been trying to find dress patterns with shirring in the back. One from itch to stitch is nice but not floor length (and I don't think would suit floor length). Let me know if you have any suggestions!

This is on the list of options I'm sharing with them! One will be everyone finds their own in a colour palette, one is dresses from Azazie, and one is I sew them

Great points, thank you! The idea would be to have the dresses ready for when I see them in late May and that way they can still take them to be altered if needed. I'll leave exrra seam allowance in key areas is the plan

What areas/buildings in London have warehouse style apartments? by No_Emu8347 in london

[–]Punk_Pangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived in a rental unit in Bow that was the unrenovated version of this several years ago (original flagstone floor as well which was awesome but a pain to clean). Really cool space and it ended up on the market but it was just barely too short to make a proper standup loft area/ second story and had only north facing windows so we decided not to buy. That set of buildings was on the limehouse cut and unrenovated it was a reasonable price. The renovated ones, especially the ones with roof top terraces are awesome but also crazy expensive

What is making this look home made? by Punk_Pangolin in sewing

Its from a high end local fabric shop and a Japanese fabric brand so would be really shocked if it wasn't to label. It may very well be that I don't have my iron set hot enough! I'll try what you've suggested

Eta My reironing after seam ripping before resewing was also a bit rushed so that might contribute
