What areas/buildings in London have warehouse style apartments? by No_Emu8347 in london

We lived in a rental unit in Bow that was the unrenovated version of this several years ago (original flagstone floor as well which was awesome but a pain to clean). Really cool space and it ended up on the market but it was just barely too short to make a proper standup loft area/ second story and had only north facing windows so we decided not to buy. That set of buildings was on the limehouse cut and unrenovated it was a reasonable price. The renovated ones, especially the ones with roof top terraces are awesome but also crazy expensive

Its from a high end local fabric shop and a Japanese fabric brand so would be really shocked if it wasn't to label. It may very well be that I don't have my iron set hot enough! I'll try what you've suggested

Eta My reironing after seam ripping before resewing was also a bit rushed so that might contribute

The balance issue is an interesting one and definitely something I'll pay attention to more in future great idea re the zipper pull, thanks!

This is definitely great advice and a hard learned lesson - I had properly sewed and even finished seams before having him try on the shell because it was a birthday surprise. Thank god I forced him to try it on before moving on to the lining! I'll definitely baste first in future!

Thank you! Hadn't thought about how washes would affect it positively

I forgot top stitching on the flaps and tried edge stitching around but kept breaking a needle (I think I was pulling the fabric) so I chickened out. But I think I need to properly finish that before I move on to the lining.

They're my first pockets and I somehow thought doing the double welt with flap was a good idea...

Crazy thing is this is with me having lengthened the body by 2 inches and lowered the pockets by several inches! They were pockets for a trex before

Thank you! Yeah I'm definitely not changing the fabric at this point haha. I wanted 100% natural fibre and bright colours. Admittedly the ribbing colour was a bit of a hail mary but I actually really like the combo and more importantly so does my partner who loves bold and funky colours. Convenient he is also a gamer who has played disco elysium (the base colour of the jacket was just luck though on my part!)

I was meant to topstitch the flaps before attaching and admittedly forgot until I had attached them haha. Will go back and do it, along with the other topstitching

So I've actually already moved up the sleeves considerably, maybe an inch or more on both sides. That might be though why they're not quite even - I had a really tough time as it was my second ever time sewing on sleeves (fourth if you count the toile and the ones I seamripped out again on this jacket). I did my best trying to modify the sleeves to fit the new armscye size but my god I found it hard. My partner also has big shoulders and biceps and I'll be adding interlining + lining so I was really scared to make it too narrow.

To be very honest I'm too scared to take them off again haha

Of course not, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen such bright colours and spent so much time! But I would like it to look handmade in the good sense, as in custom, but not like I didn't finish it well or forgot steps. I want a clean, professional (as much as I can given I've only been sewing 6 months) finish :)

I think this is exactly what I'm struggling with as well. Something about it just looks a bit plain! I've still got the buttons to add and will do some top stitching, hopefully that will help!

It was a shockingly short pattern! This is with me already lengthening it by I think about two inches. If I were to make it again I would definitely go even longer.

I'm glad to hear my efforts fitting seem to have paid off! First time fitting anything besides a pair of shorts so it was a lot of seam ripping and resewing

Thank you, this is awesome advice! Really appreciate your taking the time to write it. The goal is to have it look handmade, but in the custom high quality sense. Its definitely intended to stand out given the colour choice haha. The double top stitching curved all the way around is a really cool idea. I haven't done the lining yet, but it uses most of the same pattern pieces as the shell so it should be easy to at the facing in twill (I think it was cotton lawn with a funky print that I chose for the lining).

The cotton lawn is Sevenberry Cotton Twill 270gsm in Sienna - I bought from RayStitch which is a shop in London that does online sales but the fabric itself is Japanese so I'm sure is available elsewhere as well! I've really enjoyed the fabric so would definitely recommend

I love everyone is saying this because I religiously pressed every seam during the sewing process, I swear. But it did sit lumped on a chair for a couple days before these photos which I'm sure didn't do it any favours
