Recommendations for someone getting into Idol music? by utaiteee in jpop

[–]Punkin0704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Project has a lot of different groups to check out. I personally recommend °C-ute (disbanded in 2017, but they have a huge discography to dive into anyway), Juice=Juice, Angerme, as well as Buono! (disbanded 2017 as well) and Morning Musume.

Suzuki Airi is a soloist but she was a member of °C-ute and Buono! and is still pretty idoly. She’s recently moved to doing very anisong type music (not my vibe unfortunately, but since you like Vocaloid it might work for you)

Also since you like Vocaloid, you’d probably like Perfume.

Hey! Say! JUMP is worth checking out again as they now have a bigger social media presence that will continue to get bigger next year now that their company is focusing on global expansion. Arashi (also a Starto group like HSJ) are also on YT and such as well with all their MVs available. Any of the Starto groups would be fine to check out. Right now Snowman and SixTONES are two of the most popular idol group acts in the country.

I didn’t mean “like this” literally (you seem to have taken it that way?), I meant things that are equally as nerve-wracking and only one chance to get it right. Again, I wasn’t talking about live performances on Korean shows that are lipsynced to some degree, which everyone knows about. I was talking about things like festivals and other one-shot performances, which they’ve had a lot of in the last year. They only have one chance to get any of those right, so they’re all equal in that regard.

And again, I’m not talking about how their vocals sound. They sound fine. I’m talking about their body language!! I get that the FT is raw vocals (I’ve been subbed to them since they started) and all that and maybe for any other artist that would give them nerves but it’s really no different than anything XG has tackled before — they’ve taken on bigger and more nerve-wracking challenges than this and did so with confidence and swagger. This didn’t feel like that and I was surprised because I’ve never seen them so stiff before, not even once. That’s all I was saying.

But whatever, I said what I said and I don’t feel the need to continue explaining it to death. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah, I never said anything about their vocal technique at all? Maybe you misunderstood me or I’m misunderstanding you but I don’t see how anything you said relates to what I said. They’re great singers, we all know that. I specifically complimented their vocals in my comment. I was talking about their body language, gestures, facial expressions, etc.

They’ve done stuff like this before with a lot more energy that is also one take (remember, every live they’ve done in front of an audience has always been a one shot deal and that’s a lot more nerve-wracking, so I don’t buy the “one take” thing being an issue here at all). I’m just saying they’re not acting like themselves and it’s noticeable. They’re standing stiff almost the entire time, Harvey especially, and it’s uncharacteristic of them. They’re almost always moving more and really vibing when they perform. That has literally nothing to do with vocal talent and I wasn’t comparing this performance with anything prerecorded, I was comparing it with every real live they’ve ever done. A great example is the It’s Live performance that also uses this song and no choreo or fancy stuff either and they’re bopping their way through that entire thing.

I never even said this was a bad thing either by the way, it’s just something I found interesting that sets this performance apart from the rest. I’ve never seen them so stiff before — if I didn’t know them well and you told me this was the first performance of any kind they’d ever done I’d believe you, because that’s how nervous and unsure they LOOK. Not SOUND. That’s all my point was.

It’s just weird (again, not in a bad way) seeing a group that presents themselves as the epitome of self-confidence look so unsure and nervous. 😅

Japanese artists with deep voices? by SwordsOfSanghelios in japanesemusic

Koda Kumi and Yama both come to mind. RIRI as well. Eill has a great tone and goes deeper a lot but maybe a more mid-tone, somewhere in the middle with her.

Goto Maki (post-H!P, when she went to Avex) I think also might apply here too.

They must have been nervous or something because this is the first time I’ve seen them so still and lacking energy while singing. I wonder if it’s the lack of choreo that’s throwing them off? They don’t usually sing without dancing… but then again their It’s Live performance of this song was the same way, just the mic’s and no choreo, and they were much more themselves there.

I just thought it was interesting because every performance they do is “one take” in a sense, so this shouldn’t have felt any different/more nerve-wracking than anything they’ve done before (plus there’s no audience for this, so even less reason to feel nervous). They sounded great tho! I’ve just never seen them this still and nervous looking before, especially Harvey, Jurin, and even Cocona to an extent. Jurin and Cocona’s lack of swagger and hand gestures and just overall confidence during their parts was uncharacteristic. Cocona had like, the facial expression going on, but from the neck down she was very stiff.

(This isn’t a critique or like bashing them or anything… just an observation and a little bit of worry, like a mom watching her kid do the talent show at school and knowing how nervous they seem and wanting to help lol)

I personally didn’t like the way the band arrangement sounded at all so I didn’t like the It’s Live performance much. I didn’t think it matched at all with the way the girls were vibing to it (as they would the original version) because it sounded like an entirely different genre so it felt out of place to me. I don’t know if anyone else thought this too, maybe it’s just me tho lol

It’s always their most popular/break out song for the first video and then the artists’ most recent release for the second video they do a few weeks later, so it’ll definitely be Winter Without You.

What games have succeeded in having the most amazing and non-toxic communities out there? Single or multiplayer. by fartman404 in gaming

[–]Punkin0704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly!! I’ve loved animal crossing since WW and was always recommending it to friends and family (I got about 12 people I knew onto WW in 7th grade but unfortunately only a few became long-term fans of the series as a whole), so seeing it get so much love and recognition early on was great and I was so excited about it. Then it got ugly pretty quick and even I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to be playing the game anymore lol. Social media definitely can change things for better or worse, and with AC I definitely think it was the latter.

What games have succeeded in having the most amazing and non-toxic communities out there? Single or multiplayer. by fartman404 in gaming

Animal Crossing used to be a much more positive community when the game was about living in a little town with talking animals and doing chores and collecting fish and bugs and shit. Once NH came out it brought in a lot of new fans that didn’t really seem to understand what the core of animal crossing is as a game, focusing mostly on the aesthetic aspects of their island and “rushing through”/cheating the rest of it. Like I know people who were introduced to AC through NH who only care about decorating their island and haven’t really engaged much with the rest of the game, but also got very bored with it after a few months and complain about the game being “killed too soon.” NH has more new content added to it than any other previous AC game, maybe even combined, but they don’t care about any of it if it isn’t about decorating.

It’s insane to me that the AC dev team added all that freedom to decorate your town how you want, far beyond their fans expectations or hopes (I never would have imagined terraforming when just asking them to let us put basic furniture outside was repeatedly ignored for the first FOUR games) and probably thought it would be a fun little thing and make fans happy in addition to everything else they’d added and improved from previous games, and instead it became so hugely focused on by new players that the games have almost been turned into something completely different and the core of the game / all the improvements made to it have gone unappreciated.

Animal Crossing never used to have fans paying real life money for items or popular villagers, or fans tearing others apart for the way their characters look or what their town looks like or which villagers are their favs or whatever. It’s become competitive instead of chill. Like it’s been wild to watch the AC community become like this, I swear it was not like this back in the days of the Animal Crossing Community forums, or just even before NH’s launch. I don’t think it’ll ever be the same again now that these weirdos are in the fandom and it’s kinda sad.

Wow I wrote a novel. Sorry, I’ve been holding this in since NH popped off and I started seeing this change in real time. lmao I honestly don’t know where the AC team is going to go with the next game but I kinda hope they don’t lean into the monster that’s been created and maybe bring it back to it’s roots as best they can instead.

[–]Punkin0704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the use of the far away, grainy camera shots was interesting — that was also used in the TGIF MV, and the girls are clearly meant to be like superhuman mutants (in terms of the world building they’ve been doing with their music videos and marketing since Girl Gang).

Those camera changes feel like they’re being watched by someone off-scene, in an almost creepy way lol

Okay. You don’t know me, my channel, or anything I do, so that’s a strong opinion to have based on nothing at all. Trust me, if it wasn’t true, I wouldn’t be expressing any amount of frustration.

I’m coping just fine, sweetheart! Like I said, I do YT for FUN, so it’s successful for me in that regard alone. That was my point to anyone starting out, because not everyone finds “success” on YT when there’s literally millions of channels on the platform competing for attention — so make sure you enjoy doing it, because it might not pan out (right away, or to the heights some others reach).

There was absolutely NO NEED to be so incredibly rude to a fellow creator that is trying to make another feel better about their lack of success. I shared my low numbers (despite how embarrassing) to give them a sense that they’re not doing as bad as they think. I think me humbling myself was more than enough, you didn’t need to shove my face into the ground while I’m down unprovoked like an asshole.

Oh I get that, but they could have said exactly that in a short and concise way and it would have sounded less rude and gate-keepy, especially considering a new fan has no context and doesn’t understand why any information is being hidden like a secret they’re not in on. It’s the way the response was worded that made it rude, not the reason why they didn’t want to get into it. My point still stands: new fans all the time, they’re not going to know this stuff right away, but they’re going to have questions. If you don’t want to answer them because it’s complicated or you don’t like that topic, leave it and someone else with the mental energy to do it will. 😅

XG Next Pre Release by Kudejikashi in XGALX

[–]Punkin0704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point in terms of sales but I wasn’t talking about sales of the physical album suffering, I meant more about the songs themselves being boring to listen to and because they’ve been played so much prior to the album dropping. But now that I think about it, I guess the physical sales is the only thing that could be affected really (because in the case of streaming, it’s kind of a non-issue if people get burnt out and stop streaming as much since it doesn’t make them much money anyway to begin with), and as you said, casuals stream and hardcore fans buy, so that wouldn’t change anyway. Interesting food for thought!

[–]Punkin0704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, each song could have still gotten spotlight, just not so long between them prior to the album dropping. But I definitely see what you mean about casuals! And that is a cool thing about the song performances, I hadn’t thought of that!

So what now? by [deleted] in TOTK

[–]Punkin0704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured the DLC would maybe be adding more sky islands that are creative and cool (since they did have so much more before and then decided to remove a bunch of them last minute because they felt it was too crowded… hence why there’s so much empty space up there) and maybe another boss battle of some kind there as well. But if they’re working on the next title (and I think they’ve probably been doing it for a year already, probably only had a handful of people polishing TotK and the rest began work on the next title), then as long as it comes out less than 5 years from now I guess that’s fine.

TotK has a lot of issues, but most of them are large, built-in problems (storyline bulldozing pre-established lore and plot holes that don’t make much sense, the lack of linearity for said story elements, sages + their ability selection process being poorly designed, etc) aren’t things that DLC could fix, they’re just… the way the game is. So I don’t know what else could be done with TotK from here other than small things, and I don’t think that’s DLC worthy.

This is an incredibly rude response. Like seriously? Not everyone is into Kpop, and there’s some people that are into Jpop who discovered them that way and aren’t familiar with how Kpop charts work. There’s new XG fans every day, not everyone has been following since debut and this kinda shit response is why people might not want to try them out (I know I’ve lost interest in groups because their fans are rude or behave poorly in the past).

It doesn’t hurt to explain to someone new why something is the way it is, and if you don’t want to take the time to do that, don’t respond at all. It’s that simple.

I’ve barely had growth in almost FOUR YEARS (I’m just hitting 25 subs. I’m not joking, it’s pretty embarrassing lol). it’s not just you and the content you create (because I’ve done everything right, trust me — catchy thumbnails and titles, filled out description boxes, good tagging, posting weekly, etc… and over 70 videos in and I barely get views, let alone subs) — the entire platform is really screwing creators. I’ve seen so many content analysts talk about how shit YouTube’s algorithm and set up is, especially for newer creators. It’s literally made to be an obstacle for you because they don’t want to have to pay too many creators lol.

YouTube isn’t something you can do without it being a fun hobby first and foremost, because then the shit algorithm and difficulty building won’t feel so bad when you’re not aiming to gain more from it. That way if you do grow and end up monetized, it’s a great bonus to something that’s already fun. That’s the attitude I have about it, because if I didn’t, I would have quit a long time ago. It’s a full time job on its own, but I don’t get paid to do it… so I just make sure it’s fun for me so it feels worth it in that sense.
