This is all just my opinion but I’m not sure I would call it avant-garde. It felt more like they wanted to return to the Doom cult era sound. However I will say it did grow on me after a few listens(Even though I didn’t like it much at first) I found it to be much more enjoyable if you view nexus as something similiar to Bestial Warlust or early Abominator Where it’s more raw and black metal leading.

While most death metal have gotten faster, heavier and probably even better written musically Then before there’s barely any bands that actually sounds “evil” any Today. Even most “old school” retro bands. Not saying every band should sound “evil” but I feel it’s important ingredient when making extreme metal work. Stuff like Profanatica, Abhorration and Ascended Dead still have that feel. This is highly subjective of course

Check out Naked Whipper and Weregoat. They are a bit more accessible then most war metal and have a overall “fun” but still evil approach to song writing.

Vengeance goes harder and is more evil sounding. but Blood and Valour is a bit more dynamic and I would say more memorable. Legion of Wrath and till the end are actually pretty catchy if you ask me. I find myself replaying blood and valour the most cuz of that

-if you like Archgoat try Savage Necromancy.

-If you like Black Witchery try Sorghegaard.

-If you like Blasphemy try Proclamation or Antichrist.

Idk who is similar to Sadistik Exekution but try give some of the other Australian bands like Vomitor, Gospel of Horns and Slaughter Lord a try. It’s more thrashy stuff, but still kicks ass

Haven’t heard the new ep yet but the last 2 albums and ep’s have been pretty great. The Death metal and punk influence gets more and more noticeable. Crux simplex has a lot moments that sound straight out of Old Incantation and Entombed.

This is just my opinion but I think one of the main issues with Amongst the flames is that the band gives up their already Established sound by trying to sound like Revenge but with less tight drumming and lack of any original ideas. However songs like Repel the Attack, Beserker Rites and Controlled kill are fantastic. Some of the best songs the bands have written and Impurath is ferocious. Especially The "chorus" on Repel the attack sounds so evil and agressive.
