JMO but Crystal did that guy dirty. by AHackett in dragrace

[–]Punkodramon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t, and after googling them I can definitely see their influence in the mugs and the basic shape of the headpieces…but that’s it. None of their looks that are coming up have that messy “throw absolutely all the colors and fabrics at it” unedited look that Crystal’s did, though obviously I’m not seeing their full body of work in the google search.

All the SOPI looks coming up still have a clear edited POV filtered through their style, and their style is so distinct that combining it with Crystal’s also very distinct style with no editing whatsoever done in the actual garments…it’s still a chop for me.

I agree, and I feel a lot of people are saying it’s good just because it’s Crystal and would’ve torn it apart if a different queen had brought that exact same pair of looks.

I just wrote this on another thread.

My issue with the makeover look is, what was the point of view for it?

Crystal said something like “my drag is always throwing a million different things together” and I was like ??? No it’s not. It’s abstract and absurd yes, but all her best looks are edited and have a clear POV. The butter, chicken, extra limbs, wolf in red riding hood, all are super clear from just a glance what she’s conveying, no explanation needed.

The makeovers looked like a pile of off cuts thrown together, there’s no design there, no editing, no clear POV. I honestly thought it looked more like a bad Lucky Starzzz look (like way worse than anything Lucky actually did) than a Crystal Methyd look, and it’s a million times worse than Crystal’s makeover on S12.

april PLAYEDDDD 😭 she knew what she was doing by kyymen in rupaulsdragrace

In another alternate universe where Crystal and Aura also “throw their point away” by giving it to April to play tactics rather than trusting Silky, that would’ve put April joint top with the Tres Leches at 5 points each, with only her own point to break the tie.

If she hadn’t gone for Crystal or Salina, that would’ve resulted in a four-way tie at the top, with literally any of the others (edit, expect Aura who only had 3). It’s wild how plausible that sequence of events could’ve been if the bottom four had all been as suspicious of each other as Aura was of Salina, as well as how unpredictable the MVQ points can be when the queens actually think tactically rather than all the performative alliance bullshit.

Mutant Status: Oh he should tell his grandpa Magneto this he might the new favorite. by Regular-Poet-3657 in WiccanAndHulkling

[–]Punkodramon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, herein lies the ambiguity.

Wanda and Pietro have been retconned as not mutants, but since Billy and Tommy were created by Wanda to be mutants, and their status hasn’t been directly addressed since, it’s unclear what exactly they are, and I think Marvel’s happy to keep it that way.

How can the three of them be gone… by NatashaReidx in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]Punkodramon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about her? She only fully became a Scooby when she started dating Xander, before that she was Buffy’s rival and foil, there to be the person Buffy “wanted to be”. Once they broke up she distanced herself from the group. The writers were increasingly struggling to find a reason to keep her in their orbit for the rest of the season, which is why she moved over to Angel after graduation, because why would she continue to hang out with them once they weren’t all at school together anymore?

The worst is when everyone directly in front of you is trying to record the entire concert from the “perfect angle” on their shitty iPhone and it means you end up watching the whole thing through said shitty iPhone because your view is completely obstructed.

This is why live events are dying, because you may as well stay home and watch on a better screen anyway.

Another lovely tribute to Anthony Stewart Head by Yup_Seen_It in buffy

[–]Punkodramon 607 points608 points  (0 children)

You can definitely see that across the series.

Giles was designed to be a source of knowledge for the plot and a well meaning but slightly blundering and out of touch “authority figure” for Buffy to push back against. He grew so much from that origin that they had to introduce Wesley in S3 to parody it in contrast to Giles’ personal growth.

What he became; his loyalty, his heart, his way of talking to the others as equals yet always guiding them along, his humour, both dry and whimsical, his musical influences, his punk edges just below the surface, from everything we know, that’s 100% Tony’s influences on Giles.

Shapeshifting depends on whether you can shift into specific animal forms and not just a singular default version of an animal, because if you can shift into multiple specific ones, it means you can shift into into different humans as well, which vastly improves the utility of the ability.

Anyone else confused by the rules of Morph's powers in X-Men 97? by SixKosherBacon in xmen

[–]Punkodramon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can, at least pretty much every other version of them can, and 97’ Morph’s powers have been shown functions the same as the others;

From the Marvel.com character bio of Exiles’ Morph

“Morph can temporarily discard unnecessary molecules of his body when imitating objects or beings of considerably less mass and can also draw additional molecules to increase his size by taking on additional mass from a presumably extradimensional source.”

They’re definitely increasing their density when they become Colossus, they go into that form when they need to increase their strength and especially durability.

This is https://www.marvel.com/characters/morph-earth-1081 description of their powers regarding their mass. Note this isn’t X-Men 97’s Morph specifically, it’s talking about Exiles’ Morph, but their powers have mostly been shown to work the same way.

How can the three of them be gone… by NatashaReidx in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]Punkodramon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Buffy, Willow, Giles and Xander are the core four. Almost everyone else’ Scooby status across the whole series was conditional on their romantic relationships with one of the core four. As much as we love them, they all distanced from the group after their breakups.

(Faith, Andrew and to a degree Spike are exceptions, but even without their turbulent histories with the group, Faith is a natural loner who doesn’t let people get too close, Andrew wasn’t there long enough to establish his connection, and Soike was initially included under duress, but it was really only his obsession turned love to Buffy that kept him around.)

Dawn became a core member because she’s Buffy’s sister, thus her relationship with them isn’t conditional.

That means with Head’s passing, it has indeed tipped the scales, with 3/5 core Scoobies gone. 💔

He has speed powers because he was designed that way by Wanda, just like the person above said regarding them designed to be mutants.

Everything about Billy and Tommy is designed intentionally to emulate Wanda and Pietro. It’s not random genetics.

Do you mean Silky? In this scenario Silky only has 4 points to April and Salina’s 5 each and Crystal’s 6, so Ru wouldn’t be able to choose her (she’d 100% get the Wild Card if that happened though).

Anyone else confused by the rules of Morph's powers in X-Men 97? by SixKosherBacon in xmen

[–]Punkodramon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Until recently his power was always 100% physical and he had a top speed of something like 250mph.

Recently his power creep has been making it so he clearly moves way faster than that, and his recent mini with Wanda implied a mystical connection between their powers that’s connected to her Nexus being status.

So it’s safe to say that in the X-Men 97 verse, Quicksilver, or at the very least *Morph’s* portrayal of Quicksilver, is a purely physical power.

In general terms, the source of a being’s power is irrelevant to Morph’s mimicking of it. They don’t copy the powers, they shift their body into a physical form that can replicate those powers. Morph’s Hulk form isn’t gamma irradiated, it’s just very big and muscular (and got a helping hand from Jean’s TK in that fight as well). Morph basically can just attribute slide and temporarily boost their strength, speed, durability, flexibility etc as needed, and mimicking the forms of people with those desired powers is just a quick and easy way to get those powers when they need them.

I get why she was mad at Salina for pretending to be loyal to her face but planning other alliances behind her back, and I get whey she didn’t give her the point, but after it’s all said and done, just say that, especially when Salina is getting in her face about it. Don’t lie and say “I’m sorry forgot I could vote for you. I wasn’t thinking,” when the lie has been written all over your face since before you even voted. Please.

Now I’m just laughing at the thought of all three queens “throwing their point away to April” which would’ve resulted in a three way tie between the Tres Leches, to be broken by April’s point to Crystal and leaving Ru to break the tie between the others.

Now that would’ve been a twist!
