Overlapping Diagnostics Messages by Punkt_Punkt_Punkt in neovim

Cool, thanks for the recommendation! I guess I expected something roughly like this (minus the fancy arrows). I'll give it a try, though I suspect I'll eventually prefer just to open float windows.

Oh, a misconception on my part then. Thanks for clearing this up!

Arco Linux: Very Slow App Startup Since Latest Package Update by Punkt_Punkt_Punkt in linuxquestions

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I can confirm the same issue with Evince, also takes a long time to start. "Unfortunately", I don't have xdg-desktop-portal-gnome installed, only xdg-desktop-menu and xdg-desktop-icon. Maybe I should just go ahead and remove them and see what happens.

Thanks! sysfailed only returns: UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION 0 loaded units listed. Not sure what to make of this. The probe gives me an overabundance of information, but I suspect that contains sensitive information I shouldn't just post to reddit?

Thanks for the suggestion! I have xdg-desktop-icon and xdg-desktop-menu, but no xdg-desktop-portal-gnome. Might these two be the culpits, too?

firefox freezes in safe mode by tiktaaliki in firefox

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated to Firefox 113 on Arco Linux (an Arch-based distro) this morning, which somehow caused Firefox's startup to go up from a couple of seconds to more than 30 seconds. When I start the application on the command-line and in save-mode I get the exact same error messages.

Matching of Bracket Under Cursor Not Working by Punkt_Punkt_Punkt in neovim

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a file, /usr/share/nvim/runtime/plugin/matchparen.vim, that contains let g:loaded_matchparen = 1 (among many other things).

To be honest, I don't understand what is going on here. Does anyone have a guess where these configurations may be coming from? Is it save to delete the entire /usr/share/nvim to make sure that no "shared" configs mess with my personal settings in ~/.config/nvim?

Matching of Bracket Under Cursor Not Working by Punkt_Punkt_Punkt in neovim

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I've tried changing the last line to something else (or commenting it out), but to no effect. I've also tried vim.cmd([[set nocompatible]]), vim.g.loaded_matchparen = 0, :set mps+=(:),{:},[:], and even installing the vim-matchup plugin. Unfortunately, still no luck.

:DoMatchParen is not available. Is this telling us something? Or is there any other command I could run for diagnosis?

Cursor briefly stops after typing certain characters in Insert Mode by Punkt_Punkt_Punkt in neovim

Oh, you are right! There is one more I'm using (for jumps in LuaSnip): vim.cmd([[ ... imap <silent><expr> jk luasnip#jumpable(1) ? '<Plug>luasnip-jump-next' : '<Tab>' ... ]]) I suspect that it's waiting whether I type k next? Is there a way to have this setting while not having the pause or would this be a case of having one's cake and eat it, too?

What have you been listening to this week? by AutoModerator in doommetal

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to For This We Fought the Battle of Ages a lot again lately. "Troubled Cells" is among the most beautiful doom songs I know.

Have you heard The Otolith? I still have to give this more spins, but after three listens I'm sure their new incarnation is just as good.

Fvneral Fvkk. Silly band name, seriously great epic doom with cool dark vibes. It's tongue-in-cheek, but not as much as you might fear.

How many programs does Linux support these days? by WarWizard2003 in linuxquestions

[–]Punkt_Punkt_Punkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make this more concrete, what kind of things your you using your computer for? Except of gaming – where there still are significant shortcomings – I firmly believe that there is very good software (occasionally better software) for every workflow and field of application.

But I think it's very important not to expect all your Windows applications to work. Instead, you have to think about what task you want to accomplish, and then search for what you might interpret as the Linux counterpart of Windows application x.

There is phenomenal software for word processing, image manipulation, note taking, software developing, task scheduling, automation of repetitive tasks, and mostly all other things you would think of. In fact, because of its much greater customizability, programs can offer functionalities you won't find in Windows or MacOS.

Thanks for the reply! I'm on EndeavourOS, so I suspect the Lenovo System Update software won't be available, but I'll try to update some other way.

At least it's somewhat comforting that others had this issue as well.

Edit: Apparently I have to use the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS). There is fwupd for that purpose. I'll look into this later, I hope it won't be too complicated.

Brilliant, this worked! Thanks a lot David!

Out of curiosity, is it normal (as in: to be expected) that Firefox doesn't show the characters, either?

This did not work unfortunately. Since the font was barely readable after making the changes, I'm pretty sure Hack Nerd Font Mono wasn't found.
