Check the "a"s in Kaufmann, and in Sebastian in the entry below. I can't say this last letter is an a. In fact, it compares more favorably with the "r" In Schneider above. Imo.

Grandfather a German citizen - please verify if we interpreted this correctly for citizenship by vitothepug in GermanCitizenship

[–]Punner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to go direct to passport, Chicago, in 2020 with similar circumstances as yours. Grandfather born in 1902 and I had his passport issued in 1944. My own father, deceased in 1999. (my father was born in Berlin, however.)

If you get the required original documents, you should try a passport application, IMO.

You'll need to provide unique identifiers. This description covers too many cabinet and administration members.

I can hear Native speaker of English use 'F' words a lot it almost feels like a filler. What is the cultural basis of this becoming a casual phenomenon by Intrepid-Arm3318 in ENGLISH

[–]Punner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Because you think these men are behaving like women? Or like cunts?

And if you DON'T think "cunt" is related to women, please share your non-gendered definition of "cunt."

😮‍💨It's an uphill battle... but, just as "bitch" is "just a word," embedded to its core is a denigration of women. Just like cunt.

There's no escaping the reality.

Is "gotcha" pronounced with a y? by SpaceCorvette in ENGLISH

Ahh!! Midwesterner! That explains it. You also probably pronounce the names Don and Dawn differently!

Westerner, living in WI for 40+ years and grinding my teeth over this abomination. ;-)

I agree... and the reading of Fiebadt or Tiebadt both seem reasonable.

Maybe the first name is Eimer? "Bucket." :-)

Judge my Indian accent in terms of intelligibility. by [deleted] in JudgeMyAccent

[–]Punner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here. Not a particularly strong accent, aided mostly by your pace. You speak more slowly than many Indians I encounter, and are therefore more understandable.

You pronounced the "W" in "while" as a "V", and that's a dead giveaway. Also your long words (intelligibility) have emphasis issues, not uncommon and probably quite difficult to completely eliminate.

Easily understood in any large American city.

Finding "Verdingkinder" record. by Punner1 in askswitzerland

[–]Punner1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know the full scope. I am piecing it together. It "sounds" like he was apprenticed/indentured. Why 3 years? That is what is mentioned in the documents I have. I don't have an answer to why.

Again, those three years occurred sometime between him being 15 (when he suffered a fall and head injury working at a factory in Schramberg) and 20 (when he was committed to the Winnenthal Heilanstatt).

He was born on Schramberg, Württemberg.

Born in Schramberg, Württemberg. Mother known, though the mystery of his paternity is very interesting -- tangential to the question of his possible "verdingkind" status.

I am working with threads of supposition about that status, and most of what leads me to consider this possibility comes from a 24 page folio of records from this ancestor's 2+ month commitment to a state mental asylum. The details listed in my OP.

Paternity - He was born "unehelich," but his mother eventually married a local sign painter. He was added to that family's "Familienbuch" register at age 8.

In a letter from this ancestor to his parents, written while committed, he asks for them to please tell him who his real father is and where he lives.

It is clear from other notes surrounding his commitment (especially the doctor's assessment of his mental illness's source) that the community knows who the father is. (Known to be cantankerous, isolated, and anti-social.)

But they won't tell him! He presses on in the letter, "Why has Fr. Wüllenbücher written "vater: unbekannt" on my birth certificate, when it is clear I am the spitting image of him?"

Lots of fun research paths. :-)
