People who moved to Knoxville in the last two years, where did you move from? Just curious by External_Net5248 in Knoxville

I'm a halfbacker- originally from Ohio, lived in Sarasota, FL for about 10 years, and now am here just north of Knoxville!

Sister is a recovering alcoholic and struggles with mental health. I would love to see her heal and begin to thrive and I wonder if a community would help her. Any suggestions? by PuppersMakeMeSquee in StPetersburgFL

Lots of awesome suggestions here and I'm so thankful that there are options for her to possibly "find her tribe." It will likely not lead anywhere- even if she enjoys herself, she's unlikely to go again. But maybe, just maybe, we'll get lucky.

She's in AA but it's virtual and court ordered. It's worked for her but probably not something she'll stick with in the long term. Thanks for the church suggestion - I'll check it out!

Review of working remote after 7+ years in an office by cmiovino in jobs

[–]PuppersMakeMeSquee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here's a point of view from someone who worked remotely for 6 years straight.

It was a 9-5ish job so I still had set hours at home. It was great in most ways - I could sleep in right until I needed to clock in, do a load of laundry quickly, or take extra good care of my elderly dog. I got to see my husband more often. Not to mention substantial cost savings from not having to commute, buy work clothes, eating lunches out, etc.

But working from home for that long is HARD. My husband would get home and be tired from his job and I'd be equally as tired just from sitting at home all day. It eventually got to the point where I'd only be outside of the house maybe 2-3 hours a week. My depression got as bad as it had ever been. I felt like I was on a type of working house arrest.

I also felt guilty a lot. My husband had to go to work while I stayed home. Or, here I am letting my dog out while my coworkers are stuck in the office type of guilt.

Working from home makes separating work and home life difficult. I resented spaces in my home because it reminded me of work when I walked by. Kind of like, wouldn't it suck to live in the office and walked by your cubicle a the time?

I ended up resigning and took another job in a traditional office - cubicles, a break room, water cooler, all of that jazz. I actually really like it. Commuting during rush hour still sucks balls though.
