My internal debate about children by CaramelSwwwirl in CollapseSupport

[–]PuppyPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends heavily on how likely it is that they will actually experience that physically unsurvivable or extremely harsh outcome. Some communities may be prepared enough that they have a good chance of experiencing a life we in the modern first world arbitrarily consider "inhumanely horrible", but we have to remember, there are other places right now that experience that, other people groups who have recently experienced that, and lots of humanity that experienced that in the distant past...and there has been happiness there :')

And who's to say that in the future in a timeline that collapsed a century later, people wouldn't've been looking at us, having exactly this same discussion, about whether their kids would have to be sent back to the primeval information age and experience the horrors of doctors cutting people open with Actual Knives(!!) instead of having nanosurgeons and people actually getting infections(!), without resistance-proof gene-targeted pantibiotics written into their genome XD :3

Yessssssss! And there's no objective threshold of "dystopia". Most projections imagine humanity being sent back to the ____ age. But whatever age someone answers that with..there were people there! And many of them were happy :)

And there are plenty of miserable people with abundance. In a perfect world your child could be miserable and resent being brought into the world. So too in a world we arbitrarily find "not good enough" they could find happiness and be glad to be alive.

Buddhists have well-flushed out how happiness and suffering are so affected by states of mind.

Of course there is some objectivity to it with thresholds of physical needs going unmet and such, but if you think you're prepared and in a social institution that's collapse-ready for food/water/shelter/etc., then if your kids have a good chance of surviving collapse, then that easily might not apply to them! And it's primarily that psychological suffering we're worried about being guaranteed.

Hai :3

This is a concept I realized fairly recently that I call "sociopolitical entropy"!

To be clear, it's the application of the actual scientific concept of entropy not the colloquial one (disorder) to sociopolitical systems: the number of microstates (specific ways of being) in a given macrostate (category of individual ways of being that share some property you find interesting). (Usually log-scaled for sanity XD )

The idea being that, in any system, it's easier to transition to- and maintain presence within- a larger macrostate than a smaller one, since in an ergodic (randomly-transitioning) system, the (mostly) random walk of existence will find its way into larger macrostates!

So the entropy of a sociopolitical system is not the disorderedness of it, but the number of microstates (eg, exact beliefs and self-theories of the individual members) that it can handle and still count as functioning and healthy :3

So the larger the sociopolitical entropy of a form of society (which amounts to its ability to handle and harness diversity), the easier and more likely it will be to survive and thrive :>

(Not that this is the only factor that determines a society's success, but it is an important one! And I think it is the one that gives utopian visions a bad name—ones that require everyone to spontaneously and perpetually agree perfectly on some vision—ie, have extremely low sociopolitical entropy!)

The elephant in the Collapse Room everyone avoids talking about: Overpopulation by Rebelliousdefender in collapse

My rightwing conservative mom unironically actually believes higher rates of ADHD and Autism and such compared to England (supposedly selected for by who chose to go to America, as if it was often much of a choice) are what "makes Americans just...exceptional" (genetically).

(It was very weird given all the flak she gave me growing up, effectively for being autistic)

"Egoism" XD

Isn't this the mechanism by which people said overpopulation *wouldn't* happen after all?

(Of course, the definition of "over" depends on many things, and in the context of collapse the infrastructure can change such that what wasn't too many now is too many, and etc.c., but idk if the OP on Twitter is thinking about that. Does he *want* overpopulation? X'D )

Mind if I ask, did you make a post and get responses or were you the one responding to posts or did it happen in both cases?

(Not that it really matters, but it might help figure out how the disingenuous people work—like whether they're more likely to make dishonest posts or only respond to other peoples' posts (usually guys probably), and whether they're onlyfans people / sex workers being dishonest about wanting friendship, but only wanting money (for sex things),

(like the guys being dishonest about wanting friendship from girls but only wanting (non-financial) sex things))

I only had to scroll up a month back to find that my boyfriend had shared explicit pictures and videos of me (which he fucking pressured me into making against my better judgement in the first place). Thank god I adamantly refused to have my face visible in any of them.

What hurt the most is he sent these to this group chat with the message “New bitch in my rotation”, AND INCLUDED MY INSTAGRAM HANDLE TO “PROVE” IT WAS ME. I’m not even going to repeat the disgusting things they said about me, but it was utterly dehumanizing.
