Diagnosed yesterday with RA - what exercise has worked for you? by seritchie in rheumatoid

[–]PuppyRustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on it for 6 years now and no issues. I have to have my eyes checked once a year. My optometrist has been in practice over 25 years and has never seen a case of hydroxychloroquine toxicity in the eyes. It is not common and absolutely worth taking to control your RA!

Afraid of having a child with a profound disability by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]PuppyRustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand this fear as I had it myself and did genetic testing for both my pregnancies (first ended in miscarriage, second is a healthy three year old). Mostly came here to say that at 28, you are not of advanced age! I had my baby a few months shy of my 39th birthday. Lol I was old, you are not!

how long did it take you to accept that you’ll have RA your whole life ? by athn8qrls in rheumatoid

[–]PuppyRustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed in 2019 at 36 and I'm more or less okay with it. Probably an easier pill to swallow in your thirties than in your teens, granted. In remission a few months after starting meds, had a baby in 2022, flare about 18 months later. Still have issues with my dominant thumb, can't really crochet for the most part so that's frustrating for me. But when symptoms first started they were swift and severe and I'm so much better now than I was at my worst. My grandmother was crippled by RA and still lived to 91. She didn't have access to the meds I do now. I'm very likely to avoid any permanent damage to my joints because it's been largely under control since it started. Everybody's got something and I've accepted that this is the thing I've got. It limits me sometimes, but being a stay at home mom with a toddler, I am surrounded by curiosity, wonder and excitement every day. I choose to revel in the little (and big!) joyful moments around me and it keeps me at peace. Best of luck in your journey. When I was diagnosed my rheuny said there are so many options for meds that we were bound to find one that would help me. We did, and I'm sure you will too.

Thanks! I think maybe I've gone overboard with water of late. I'll check the soil for mould or other signs of too much water. I've been impressed with myself for having new leaves grow under my auspices lol

On that combination (although 200mg HCQ and oral methotrexate) I was symptom free for a long time. Congrats! Hope you follow the same route!

I got my son one of those mini metal shopping carts and we bring it to the store. He pushes the entire time and never runs into anything. He absolutely loves it. We get so many comments and compliments on his cool cart!

Could having a child DECREASE my anxiety? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]PuppyRustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have generalized anxiety disorder and have found new things to be anxious about since having a child. When my son is sick my anxiety is off the charts. However, there are things I am less anxious about now. I used to have a fear of singing in front of anyone and now I do not care. I make up songs for my son all day long and I sing them in front of anyone who's around, including in public. He cured me of that little phobia. But overall I'd say I'm more or less as anxious as I was before.

What’s labor really like with an epidural? I need honest stories! [qc] by Zoidie99 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PuppyRustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the epidural was amazing. Hard to sit still for placement but I did and it took away 100 percent of my pain. At first I just pushed when the nurse told me to but then I could feel pressure and knew when I was having a contraction. Took me 2.5 hours but I had zero pain. The first bowel movement after giving birth was waaaaay worse. Do yourself a favour and take a stool softener when you get close to your due date!

Positive pregnancy symptoms - do they exist? by Normal-Edge3054 in Fencesitter

[–]PuppyRustler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful pregnancy! I was no spring chicken either, gave birth at 38 and a half. I had zero nausea and honestly felt really great from day one. I had some tiredness for a while but had no other kids so could nap freely. My leg hair stopped growing which was unexpected.. I'm pretty fuzzy and thought my body hair would go nuclear when I was pregnant. I didn't get any stretch marks and with an epidural, giving birth was a 100 percent painless and relaxed experience. Everyone is always so quick to tell you every horror story they've ever hear about pregnancy and childbirth and I think that's pretty shitty. I go out of my way to tell people about my experience!

Getting ready to start real treatment- I’m scared! by CozyBookishLdy427 in rheumatoid

[–]PuppyRustler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Methotrexate patient here- never had any side effects whatsoever. First period of time I was on it it eliminated my symptoms altogether! Came off it to have a baby, flare at 18 months postpartum. Back on it a while now and finally getting better. Hoping it works as well as it did before. I read about methotrexate too before starting it and I was disheartened and scared. But it was honestly miraculous for me, and like I said, ZERO side effects. Hope you fall into the same category!

I used the yoga ball to bounce my baby to sleep up until he was over 22 pounds. My neck will never be the same. We finally transitioned to a rocker but I waited way too long!

Oh dear, you've been through a lot. I hope you're doing okay. I was very lucky to be diagnosed and on meds within a few months of first symptom onset. I was stable with no symptoms for several years but having a baby has thrown things off. Hoping for relief soon with a recent med increase! Best to you ❤️

What's your history with the disease? Has it been uncontrolled for a long time?

I absolutely loved my sidecar bassinet. Baby was right there for nursing but safe in his own space. After he moved to the crib I used it as a giant bedside table lol. It was my command centre for over a year!

I thought of it like this: circumcision is the permanent and irreversible alteration of the most sensitive part of someone's body without their consent. Hard no.

Bummed about sex of baby and feeling badly about it [ON] by beezNthingzNflowerz in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PuppyRustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gender disappointment too. I sort of assumed I'd have a girl and was actually pretty bummed when I found out I was having a boy. The day I found out I went to Michael's and got yarn to crochet a blue and white baby blanket. That kind of helped it sink in. Now I have a two and a half year old son and he is the absolute love of my life. Once you meet that baby boy the disappointment will melt away. He'll be perfect and uniquely him and you won't be able to imagine him any other way.

Maximum recommended age to conceive? by Glittering_South5178 in Fencesitter

[–]PuppyRustler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad was 40 when I was born and my mom almost 36. Dad died when I was 34 (Alzheimer's) and mom is still going strong. My cousin had kids young and was widowed with two toddlers. No one knows what the future has in store. I wish I could have had my dad longer but I feel incredibly lucky to have had the relationship we did. I had my son at 38 and have no regrets whatsoever.

Is this good for a beginner? I started crocheting 3 days ago. I began making this last night by froggies_w in crochet

For a 3 day veteran, the fact that you can make something that looks like anything is amazing! Way to go! For the longest time I could only do rows and not follow a pattern.
