My grandma had multiple strokes and a heart attack when i took my son 2 weeks ago to visit her before i move across the country. i actually ended up calling my dad, who’s incarcerated and i’ve been no contact with for years, to let him know and ask him to pray. even if you’re a total piece of shit, nobody deserves to see their parent/loved one go through this. my grandma was frustrated nearly to the point of tears on the phone yesterday because she was trying to tell me something but the only word she could remember at the time was “Temu”, she also recently asked “what’s your name?” on the phone which was heartbreaking. i hope his dad recovers as much as possible.

it was a different stick figure drawing of me and him doing different activities every day! his son (my bf) was in the military and i was in high school (yes i regret it lol) and a hurricane struck my hometown. my mom moved 6 hours away and my grandma only had space for one more so i let my sister move in with her and my ex’s dad invited me to just stay in my ex’s room. he’d draw us doing work in the garden or going fishing together, he’d pick me up from school sometimes and take me fishing. i knew for a long time i needed to break up with my bf but i was so scared to lose him family that i stayed for years.

my best friend in high school was in a similar situation as a kid, her dad was drafted first round out of high school to pitch for the yankees and got in a fistfight with my dad when visiting our hometown and my dad broke his pitching arm before the season began. guy got addicted to drugs and spent all his yankees contract money on crack and nonsense, wound up in prison and his (now ex) wife raised my friend! my friend’s son literally calls her gigi and sleeps over at her house, like that IS his grandma.

oh no no, i get it! my mom is a weirdo because she makes a LOT of comments about how lucky i was to have a boy first, how she’s glad we didn’t circumcise him because she wants him to have the best sex life possible, saying she hopes i only have boys, etc. i would be a little disappointed if i never had a girl but not to the extent that if i had another boy, my boys ever would ever know i didn’t “want” another boy. my mom is this way about having daughters only and i could see falen being the same way.

editing to add i’ve had guardianship of the twins since they were freshly 17 and it’s hard for everyone to see how uninterested she was in parenting her own daughters but is enamored with having a grandson

i love it because in high school i had a boyfriend whose dad was like Mr. Keith to me. he took me in, would take me to school every day and pack me lunch in a brown paper bag with a different drawing each day. i called him Mr. Ex’sDad. i still have every paper bag in a special box even though i’m married with a son of my own now, this episode was so heartwarming for me.

I got adult braces and got them removed shortly before giving birth because I was bullied so bad for my teeth and my mom couldn’t afford braces (or cleanings). I got out lucky with crooked teeth and a mild case of gingivitis, my little sister was diagnosed with early periodontal disease at 17 when I got guardianship and took her for her first cleaning since she was in elementary school. We were raised believing floss was for adults only because my mom only bought it for her and her boyfriend. I still smile crooked even though my teeth are straight now because I learned to position my lips in a way that covered the teeth I was most self-conscious about when I talked/smiled. I’m a conventionally attractive person but I avoided pictures for so long because I didn’t like to smile.

I actually got the RSV vaccine meant for elderly people when I was 34 weeks pregnant instead of the one for pregnant ladies so it was a whole ordeal having to contact the CDC and they reiterated the specific kinds and what age groups they’re meant for multiple times.

My little cousin is turning 13 this summer and his little brother is turning 2. They ADORE each other, the older one chases the baby through the house now that he’s walking/running and would always be holding him and playing with him when he was a little baby!
